Author has written 8 stories for Ranger's Apprentice, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

My Tumblr: - a bit of an eclectic blog. Lots of YuGiOh so far but other fandoms I'll be posting about include Pokemon, Star Wars and Harry Potter, among several others.

I may not always update regularly, but I'm always happy to reply to PMs. If you have any questions about my work or anything else, feel free to send me a message and I'll try to get back to you within about 24 hours.

To my Ranger's Apprentice Readers,
re: The fanfics that haven't been updated for a long, long, time.
A.K.A "I'm Not Actually Dead"

Okay, firstly, I'm alive.

Secondly, I'm sorry.

Thirdly, I haven't given up.

I'm not sure how many people are still waiting on these fics but I know you're there and thank you so much for your boundless patience. The Ranger's Apprentice fandom was so much smaller when I first started writing for it, and it's gotten so much bigger. I haven't explored the huge amount of new fanfiction yet but I absolutely can't wait to. I'm keen to see what the next generation of RA fans have to offer.

I don't need to tell you that I simply haven't touched the RA fandom for a long, long time. Please understand that my mind is kind of weird; I go through obsessive phases in life, where all I'll be able to think about is one thing - usually my latest favourite game/show/movie, and I'll find it hard to focus on much else for a while. I still love Ranger's Apprentice - I always will. I've just discovered so many things and gotten so distracted and school has gotten so hard these past couple of years, but I haven't forgotten. If you take anything from this note, please take this:

I WILL UPDATE.

They're coming. I promise. I don't know how long it will take, but they'll always be coming. If you want to stay updated, the best advice I can give you is to subscribe to my fanfiction because I can't promise regular updates and checking for them can be painful. At least with an alert you'll always find out when they're updated without worrying about checking all the time.

Once again, thank you so much for your patience. I will never forget about Will and Halt and Gilan. "The Troubles with Youth" and "The Reality Check" remain on my mind and I hope we'll all see the story through eventually. I simply ask for time.

Sincerely,

Footloose Poets

IMPORTANT (NO MATTER WHAT FANDOM YOU'RE IN)

The update dates on a lot of my work look bad, but please know they're not discontinued. If a fanfiction is posted here, I have every intention of completing it, even if I haven't touched it for literally years. Nothing short of death or perhaps extreme debilitating illness will keep me from updating eventually. Subscribing to the works is the most practical way of keeping up with my erratic updates, so I recommend it if you want to know how they eventually end.

Language in YuGiOh Fanfiction
Just a few pointers on my preferences:

I understand that many Japanese fandoms have a Western audience that consists of two main groups: the ones who watch fan subs and read scanlations, and the ones who wait for Western dubs and official English manga releases. I tend to be the latter. Regardless of whether I prefer the Japanese version of an anime/manga or not, I will use the English given names. This is mostly for the purpose of greater accessibility. Also, I will not use "fan Japanese": where phrases such as "arigatou" or "gomenasai" are used in place of "thank you" and "I'm very sorry" while the rest of the work is in perfect English. This also goes for titles; unless the work makes a point of using honorifics, as many Tokyopop manga does, or a title is specifically given in the official English translation such as "Sensei", I will use purely English titles in my fanfiction, as I do when I translate in my Japanese exams (otherwise I'm only doing half the work, aren't I?). It's far easier for the dub-watching reader and those not familiar with the Japanese language.

This probably sounds a little hypocritical considering I use the terms "yami", "hikari" and "Aibou" in my fanfiction. I choose to use these as I feel they hold a deeper meaning than can be conveyed by their English translations. While "yami" simply means darkness in English, in the context of YuGiOh, the Japanese term has more meaning than simply being "darkness". "Yami" and "hikari" refer specifically to the idea of being a darker and a lighter counterpart to each other's souls - in this context. Yami was such an important name it even transcended the dub barrier and was used in the 4Kids dub. Of all dubs. Yami's affectionate use of "Aibou" in reference to Yugi is of a similar nature. Just using the word "partner" not only has certain connotations in modern English, but doesn't carry the same weight as "Aibou". It's a very special term Yami uses only for Yugi and to help convey their bond it's important to keep the original Japanese word. Also, it sounds incredibly adorable to the English ear.
