Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter.
Hi there, my name is Chirag, I am a 28 year old guy from India. I am a great fan of Harry Potter even though I started reading the books after the movies were finished. And this I think was the best decision I made for HP touched me in ways no other books did.
As my Avatar shows I am a diehard Harry/Hermione shipper. I strongly believe these two belong together. Interestingly I was not a shipper prior to reading the books. But while reading GoF I realized that H/Hr would have made a beautiful couple. Far better than Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny anyway. To clear the air the so called Dan/Emma chemistry had no influence on my choice of ship, though I admit they do have an incredible chemistry in movies.
I loved everything about the canon and the wonderful world which JKR created, but she really messed up in romance department. I honestly believe she missed her plot in HBP and DH was more like a badly written fanfiction, with its glaring plot-holes and that abominable crapilogue.
HBP actually convinced me that Ron is not the right guy for Hermione. He was too immatured and insecure for his own good. Opposites may attract but you need a strong common ground to have a stable and long lasting relationship. And constant arguements and bickering are not signs of unresolved sexual tension or foundation for a healthy relationship. I am speaking from personal experience here as my parents are extreme version of Ron/Hermione and more than once I wished that they were never married.
Honestly the only common ground between Ron and Hermione was Harry, they wouldn't have even been friends if not for Harry.
Regarding Harry/Ginny, I find this relationship rather superficial and the monster in Harry's chest is simply a euphemism for raging hormones. I wouldn't have minded this pairing much though if only JKR had developed this relationship properly and if Ginny's character was bit more fleshed out. In fact while writing Harry/Ginny JKR broke an old unwritten law of fiction- that the heroe's girlfriend should be an important character. But the only role which Ginny plays in the books is being Harry's snogging partner.
Unlike majority of H/Hr shippers I don't hate Ron in fact I rather like him as a character. I don't understand why so many H/Hr shippers hate Ron so much. Despite his flaws and the mistakes he made Ron is a genuinely good person at heart and a brave and loyal friend. I simply don't like him with Hermione. Thats why I don't like fanfics which tend to portray Ron as an evil greedy bastard or a Gryffindor version of Malfoy.
On magic in Harry Potter.
Just think about it, Wizards in HP can turn a table into pig, become invisible, teleport, torture someone to insanity, control someone's mind or end one's life,etc...all with the wave of a wand and by chanting some silly spells in 'Dog-Latin'! Yet we are never told what is the origin and source of magic or how it exactly works, or why Wizards need spells and wands to do magic and so on.
Wizards in HP books have God-like powers yet we are never told what is the source of their powers. And the most ridiculous thing is that these people with God-like powers chose to go into hiding instead of enslaving Muggles when they could have easily done so in medieval times. In fact I am really grateful that Wizards don't exist in real life. I am quite sure we Muggles would have ended up becoming their slaves if they really existed long time back.
Many fanfcition writers try to create their own theories regarding how magic works in HP verse, however all of them make the same mistake. They never try to explain the origin and source of magic and believe me its really difficult if not impossible to create a logical system of magic without first explaining its origin and source. So my advise to all those authors who are trying to come up with theories to explain the workings of magic in HP verse- first explain the origin and source of magic the rest will come automatically.
On Albus Dumbledore.
Manipulative Dumbledore fics are quite a popular genre in fanfiction. I also enjoy reading them occasionally, but most of them fail to depict this complex character properly. Dumbledore in these stories ends up being portrayed as a manipulative old man, senile, insane and even downright evil. None of these descriptions do justice to this character.
As some one had pointed out, Dumbledore is not a character but a plot device. Yes he is manipulative. Yes many of his decisions were of questionable nature. Yes he made mistakes. But none of these make him an insane or evil person. And the HP books clearly show that he does care for Harry. Evidence- in DH when Dumbledore tells Snape that Harry has to die in order to defeat Voldemort, he closes his eyes as if he was in a great pain. Second In GoF, when Harry tells Dumbledore that Voldemort used his blood to resurrect himself, a look of triumph flashed in Dumbledore's eyes if only for a second. Both these instances prove that Dumbledore did care for Harry and wanted him to survive.
I tend to believe that Dumbledore sincerely tried to find a method to extract the Horcrux from Harry's scar without killing him, but couldn't. But that doesn't mean there couldn't have been any other method to safely extract the Horcrux from Harry. Its just that Dumbledore did everything on his own and was a bit arrogant or one can also say this was one of the idiotic plot devices of JKR which would make Harry into a martyr.
In fact many of the decisions of Dumbledore and plot-holes of JKR can be attributed to the fact that both of them wanted Harry to end up as a martyr.
On Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape.
I really hate both of them. One of them is a racist, arrogant bully. The other is a also a bully, petty, immature and arrogant man who takes out his grudge on a dead man on an innocent child. He is also biased and thoroughly unprofessional. He doesn't deserve to be a teacher or even come near children. His hiring as a teacher is one of the worst decisions of Dumbledore.
As for Draco, he may not be evil but he is two things I hate most- a racist and a bully. And I sincerely believe all those girls who fancy Malfoy for whatever reasons need some serious Psychotherapy!
I really want to thank everyone who read, reviewed and favorited my story-'True love is a calm breeze and not a raging flame.' I was really overwhelmed by all the response. I am glad you guys liked my story even though I am myself not satisfied with it. Thank you again for your support and encouragement. I also encourage everyone to take a look at my fanfiction challenge mentioned in the beginning and the end of the above mentioned story. If you do take it up then please let me know through a PM.
Things I don't like in fanfictions.
Azkaban Harry fics.
I never liked these as they are extremely illogical and seem to give the message that no one in Wizarding world has an ounce of commonsense and only Hufflepuffs are capable of loyalty. The worst thing is in some of the stories Harry actually ends up forgiving everyone which is not realistic. In fact betrayal of this magnitude can't be forgiven.
These are worst fics ever written! Let me get this straight, without the sacrifice of Lily Potter there is no way Harry could have survived the killing curse because there is no magic which can stop it, the canon makes it clear. Thus without Lily's sacrifice there cannot be any 'Boy-Who-Lived' or 'wrong-boy-who-lived' for that matter.
The worse thing about these stories is that they always portray Lily and James as neglectful and sometimes even abusive parents. I don't think any parent can abuse their child like that especially James and Lily who are described as two of the kindest and open minded people in canon. In fact these stories are an insult to the character of James and Lily!
I really feel like laughing at these stories which portray Dursleys as more evil than even Voldemort! I hate the Dursleys but there is a reason they never physically abused Harry in canon. Because they are not stupid, they knew any kind of physical abuse would have brought them within the radar of both muggle and magical authorities.
Many fanfics show that Harry's injuries used to heal themselves after being abused by Dursleys. This is not mentioned anywhere in canon. Wizards don't have regenerative abilities like Wolverine, if this was the case Harry would have never needed to go to the infirmary in the canon.
The worst thing about some of these fics is where Harry is portrayed as a wimp who never fights back. Now thats really stupid. We are talking about a boy who faced a sixty foot basillisk at the age of twelve. And don't forget how he blew up Marge Dursley in third book without a wand! Magic or no magic Harry is more than capable of defending himself and he is not the one to ever bow down to any kind of abuse or bullying especially from a bunch of muggles.
I am not homophobic, but Harry in canon is such a heterosexual guy that its impossible for me to imagine him in any kind of slash relationship. I really don't understand why some authors put Harry into such relationships when the canon makes it explicitly clear that Harry is completely straight. There are some really good stories with Harry in a slash relationship, but I will never be able to read such stories. In fact the authors of these stories don't realize that they are losing a chunk of their readers simply because of the protagonist's sexual orielntation.
On abandoned fanfictions.
My simple rule regarding such stories are- if a story hasn't been updated for more than three years then its most probably abandoned. Especially if the author is not responding to any reviews or PM.
My simple suggestion for all those authors who can't complete their story for any reason, declare your story abandoned or give it up for adoption. No need to give any reasons or excuse for why you are abandoning your story, frankly speaking no one really cares.

What can I say, JKR simply admitted to something we Harmony fans have known forever. All I can say now is, HARMONY FOREVER!
