![]() Author has written 4 stories for Pokémon, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Rise of the Guardians, and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. Arc's writing tips 1. Don't get the time confused. Don't write things as though they are happening right at the moment then write "said" like it's in past tense. This is a common mistake but it discourages readers and makes the story seem bad even if the plot is well thought out. 2. Avoid OCs unless this is the main character I know. Everyone just wants to put one in. To make a virtual you/us/them and give them an important role in the whole story even if the summary says otherwise. Or to put in the character they invented and just make it the cool mysterious character that every canon character in interested in. OCs are not wrong but if you want to make a story with main characters from the series then they put the characters in and make the whole world revolve around them then it discourages readers from reviewing. But OCs are good ways to fill out spaces and blanks so it's not wrong. Just don't put too many. It gets some people lost or confused. Remember the focus in the story, it's a very bad idea to introduce an OC in the middle of the story and switch the focus to them. It makes the reader's go "What? What's happening? What happened to [Insert Canon Character]!!!"Also a good way to introduce an OC is by using an Arc. It's also a good way to slip in other OC's. 3. Avoid Writing the same part of the story over and over again just using different PoVs This gets annoying and lets readers lose interest. It's kinda like when a teacher gives you a super hard test where you have to correct the grammar but keeps using the same sentence different ways up to the point it starts to get really hard. 4. Have fun 'Nuff said people. Writing is a great way to express your emotion and feelings. It's a good way to pass time too. Let your imagination soar! Just don't let it get away! Make a short list of all the stuff you think up so you can evaluate it later if you think you need to. 5. Describe it Don't be vague about the situation up to the point that it seems like a rough draft. Be imaginative, insert even small details like the mood of the characters, the time of the day, anything that the character might see, and emotion. Describe it as you see it. 6. Use an "Arc" An arc is like a story within a story. An arc is used to fill in the gaps in a story with a smaller problem that causes a new string of event's the all add up to the main characters learning something that affects the whole plot or it can introduce something or someone new... or kill someone off. These are added so the story does not seem to rush it's plot and the characters don't just know random things "Just Because". In short, use them. 7. Don't Rush it The biggest and most common problem for authors is that they want to finish a chapter fast and everything happens way too fast as well. Fanfiction authors need to remember that we set our deadlines and we have no limit. Its best not to do it all in one go and take time to think things through. 8. Summary Simplicity The summary is often a big problem for beginners and the note 'I suck at summaries' is attatched. If you really can't think of a good summary an effective way to make one would be to use some of the most interesting dialouge's in your chapter and posting them in your summary with short, vauge, but interesting sentences. More tips coming soon! Have you ever looked back at your younger self and thought, 'I was such an idiot...' Yeah... I always get that now a days and was very. VERY impulsive as a kid so at anyone who is here because I sent you a weird review that seems either overly eager or offensive or just weird in general, I apollogise. If I sent you a review before 2013 please just ignore it if it's strange. If it's still strange and it's from 2014 and above I was in a weird mood.
