Random Facts About Me:
Why do you write Harmony Romance stories?
I write Harmony romance stories because they are my OTP. I’ve met Harry and Hermione when I was 7 when I saw Harry Potter for the first time, and right from the moment Hermione fixed Harry’s glasses I swear I fell in love. I also write Harmony stories because I honestly don’t know how to write for other pairings. I can make side stories for them in some of my fics but not all, I need to have a Harmony in it. I struggle to write scenes that doesn’t involve Harry and Hermione.
What’s your fave genre for writing Harmony?
I love angst/romance genres when I write for this couple. If you’ve read my fics, most of them have this angsty feels. I guess it’s because I’m best friends with a girl who writes horror stories, which I listen to attentively. Friends with bunch of kids that loves everything zombie related from video games to the walking dead, and a mother who absolutely fancies watching horror films, and I also sort of like the eerie ghost stories, but I don’t get scared easily. But don’t worry we don’t wear black, have a tattoo, and the only piercing I have is on my ears.
Also because I find that most people don’t read angsty fics because it makes them sad. So I sort of take that as a challenge and say ‘Alright, I’m writing a fic that is angsty and sad, but I don’t want my readers to cry and be depressed after they read it. And if it’s going to be sad, it has to make sense and not just a way to make people cry…’.
And maybe, I just like writing it, with no particular reason.
What’s your writing style?
I don’t have one to be honest. When people comment about them liking my style I’m like ‘Oh, I have one? That is so cool, I just wish I knew what that is…’. Now to be honest, I write in first person POVs, because I’m more comfortable in it, but regarding the whole style of writing I don’t follow a pattern, I just write whatever. Which now leads me to the part that I don’t proofread my fics, and I usually don’t read my fics after about 3 months since I wrote them.
Why do you write insanely long oneshots?
I get asked this by a lot. And people, most notably my sister keep on telling me that if I want more readers I should just split it. The problem is that my oneshots, are just really small plots, plots with no great consequences or epic turns and twists of fates they are really small plots, I don’t see the point of making them longer, it just so happens when I type them they tend to be quite long. Also, multi-chaps frustrates me, the whole updating thing is tedious people. I also feel insanely guilty, when I update long and I have a fear of losing interest trust me it has happened before and I hated breaking people’s hearts. So I think I’m a definitely long oneshot writer.
Why are you in fanfiction?
Because, I wanted to read a Harmony fic.
When I found out they weren’t canon from a friend when I was in sixth grade I got mad, and maybe I cried. I was angry. I also didn’t knew fanfiction existed so what I did in my spare time is have my own personal canon in which Harry and Hermione was end game. And let me tell you my imagination didn’t really take me that far. When I was 14 I discovered this place and it has brought me wonders, but I didn’t really read in the Harry Potter section I read in the anime section and even wrote there. By 2011, when I was 16 I begun reading Harry Potter when I was suffering from Harry Potter withdrawal syndrome, not to mention the dance scene in DH and the hotness in Dan and Emma’s kiss got gears in my mind working. So I said, okay I’m finally going in and believe it or not I shipped them harder after reading fics, which got me to read essays about this couple (my fave is the ‘in-depth analysis of Harry and Hermione in OOTP’ which was published before the final book came out), and fanvids which made me a diehard shipper.
What is your personal pet-peeved in Harmony fanfiction?
Let’s break it to parts I have tons.
Soulbond- okay let me get this straight, the DH part where Hermione looks at Harry during Bill and Fleur’s wedding was definitely a shipper moment for me and which I screamed. ‘JK bloody Rowling, the reason why I ship Harmony is your fault, anvil my face…why, why if you wanted/planned it to be Hinny and Romione do you write these scenes, that is so easily a Harmony moment? I mean, if you quit writing these things we wouldn’t have a problem.’ So yeah, to be fair I definitely think it wasn’t just Fleur and Bill who were bonded for life in that canon scene.
But…when I read fics in which they are bonded, I don’t know for me, it’s so unnatural, and almost forced like the whole Hinny romance thing. I don’t know maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t read a Harmony soulbond fic that I liked.
Harem- the Harmony fics which Harry has more than one wife, is something that turns me off. I don’t care how good the story is, if this is introduced in the plot then I hit the exit button. I don’t know, but I don’t really enjoy polygamous relationships. Hey, some dig it, so I don’t judge, it’s just not my cup of tea.
Dan and Emma- Okay you know how Hermione’s parents were never actually named. So most fics I see has Dan and Emma name. Okay this isn’t really such a big deal, I overlook this all the time, but sometimes it irks me. Like I say, ‘This is why people think we’re delusional, because they believe we ship Harmony just because Emma and Dan have great chemistry, that if Rupert and Dan switched roles there wouldn’t be a Harmony ship.’ I don’t know, but it sort of makes us rather shallow. Because I believe that we Harmony shippers actually ship Harry with Hermione despite Emma and Dan.
Bashing- I appreciate authors who write or warns readers if their story contains bashing, I really do. When I see these in summaries I don’t bother clicking them. I don’t know, but I hate bashing, it gives me bad feelings and I actually feel sorry for the characters being bashed. I don’t know why, I guess it’s because I’m not mad at characters. Sure Ron has faults but sometimes I think it’s not right that for Harry and Hermione to end up together we have to bash Ron or Ginny. I believe that we don’t have to bash to make Harmony happen. Peace people, besides, bashing characters always manages to get a rise out of people and let’s all avoid the negativity.
SMUT- okay, I’m no prude, I’m definitely not that innocent, and yes I have loved stories with graphic scenes in it, but I honestly can’t see Harry and Hermione well, doing that just for the sake of doing it. I don’t know, maybe it’s the idealist in me, but I think if they do do it, it should have meaning to the story’s plot, to the characters and essentially have a purpose. I guess it’s truly just a matter of preference, so yeah, there are exceptions but most stories with SMUT I can’t seem to stand because I have a problem in believing them.
Guilty pleasures in Harmony fanfics?
Pretend- I have a thing for pretend in Harmony fanfics. Where they pretend to be a couple, be married and etc. before they realized they are meant for each other. I think it’s sweet. You see I believe the line of friendship of Harmony could have easily been crossed and this is something that is sort of effective way to get there.
Historical- My fave subject in school is history. So if it has kings, queens, and castles in it and with people having bonnets, frills, and carriages then I enjoy them. ‘The Truth About Love’ and ‘A Most Advantageous Match’ (stories in portkey) are perfect examples for this. Also it’s fun to play with the ‘It is highly indecent for an unmarried woman to have friendly relations with a man who is not her betrothed, or that would be simply scandalous’. I don’t know but with Harry and Hermione’s close friendship, it’s going to be quite hard for people to perceive them as just as friends in an era like those.
AUs- I love Aus, as long as it has a fresh plot and everything. Especially Aus in which Harry doesn’t have a Voldy chasing him.
Fluffs- I’m not good at writing them, but I love reading them.
Do you Honestly think Harmony ship is the best?
But it is the ship that works best for me. Why do I say this? Because it’s a matter of preference. Some prefer chocolate, others vanilla. Some coffee others tea, choosing your ship is just like that, that is why sometimes shipping wars make no sense to me, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It’s a free country go board your own ship, I don’t care if yours if floating, mine might be sinking or have sunk but at least we reached the lost city of Atlantis…how cool is that?
What I can’t stand is the bashing. Shippers bashing shippers. It’s like saying, ugh! You like chocolate you should be sued, everyone knows vanilla tastes better. What is that?
Why is my ship not perfect?
Canon Harry with Canon Hermione- Okay, now when I was younger I was always like …
Harry/Hermione team all the way. How can Harry not like Hermione, she’s always there and she’s so good for him? Come on Harry, open your eyes, Hermione’s the one! Until…Effin Bloody Harry! Are you blind, is your glasses that useless? How daft can you be you bloody wanker! Why don’t you effin just die, you oblivious effin git! Hermione is there you oblivious boy! Yeah, as years go by I got more and more frustrated with Harry.
Once to convince myself (Of Hinny and Romione) so it won’t hurt, I read a Hinny essay. Some of it made sense about 45% I even went and read Hinny fanfics because the real deal (canon) wasn’t doing it for me. But man, I felt nothing. Until I forgot where I read it but someone made an analysis regarding Harry’s character. The author pointed out that Harry was OOC in the books.
That essay made a lot of points on how Harry wasn’t really acting how he’s supposed to act and such and that some of his actions didn’t make sense and or is contradictory to how he supposedly is. He’s not such a good character if you think about it.
That essay actually made me say…F it, Harry doesn’t deserve Hermione! But obviously when matched against Ron he’s an improvement.
But Then I read some more…and then they started pointing out how Harry as a character didn’t really mature and it might be Rowling’s fault. Before I thought Rowling’s only fault was not making Harmony canon but then I realize Harry is also her fault. They were right! Harry’s actions didn’t seem realistic especially how he would treat Hermione.
That’s why Harmony makes sense to me, because there were so many ways on how it easily could have been canon, especially if Harry was written write ( there’s no major change-maybe if Hermione sort of fixed him from being too emotionally unavailable and so oblivious about love and such). I have a feeling that JK was writing Harmony unconsciously, that it was just something that came off so natural to her that she didn’t have to think it. Harry and Hermione had chemistry and they actually complement each other, they aren’t alike but they aren’t so different too. And maybe when she was writing them she suddenly says ‘Oh, wait…they are too close, this can’t be…ugh! It’s so tiring to go all the way back and change their interaction, oh let’s just cause a riff in their relationship in this part and add Hinny and Romione moments to keep on the One Big Happy Weasley Family Track.’ Then she says she drops anvil hints for Hinny and Romione, which I have to say is not a lie, but the thing is it’s so big that it does seem forced to me, and for most of the Harmony shippers. Harmony feels more relaxed and more genuine that we don’t need a naked dancing person pointing out to us the Harmony parts.
Plus, I have to say the whole jealousy part for Hermione is so not like her. I have a hard time imagining that.
I’m actually thankful Harmony isn’t canon now…just because fanfiction is so much better. And let’s face it, JK doesn’t know how to write romance consciously. No offense to her, as she is the Alpha of this all.
