Author has written 2 stories for Naruto, and Twilight. Historically I've mostly enjoyed OC-centric Naruto fics, particularly 100k word ones. You can find a community for some of the fics I've loved in my profile--all of which I've read over the years, mostly in the mid 2010's. My taste now (2023) may be different, so I can't full-heartedly vouch that new adults will enjoy all of the listed fics at this point. However, they were exactly what I needed when I was still a teenager/young adult staying up all night to binge them, using them as a tool to learn English. In 2023, my SI & OC: Narutoverse community still averages 500 views a month, which is kind of crazy for a "dying" website like ff. I'm really thankful you found it and added it to your little corner of the universe, and I hope those fics carry you through wild times, just as they have carried me. The community started out as a project to keep my SI/OC favs separate from all my favs so that I could revisit them one day, and I'm glad to be able to share it with you. More of my most active fandoms, ft the characters I love reading fanfics about: - Star Wars all of its EU [Anakin/Darth Vader, Padme, Captain Rex, Ahsoka, Mando] - X-Men [Wolverine, Rogue, Magneto] - Naruto [Itachi, Kakashi, Obito, Sasuke, Sakura, Hinata, Minato, Tobirama] - Jujutsu Kaisen [Toji, Gojo, Geto, Nanami] - Attack on Titan [Erwin, Levi, Annie, Reiner] - Harry Potter [Draco, Ginny, Hermione] - Twilight [the entire wolf pack] - Hunger Games [Cato, Gale, Gloss] - Captain America / The Winter Soldier [Bucky] - Game of Thrones [Robb] - House of the Dragon [Aemond] [I also LOVE originals characters within all these fandoms. SI not so much, but can manage. Y/N will discard] The fics you see listed below were compiled at some point around 2016, so many of them may be on hiatus or not quite what I'd read now, but they were my favorites at that point and I'm sure they're still stellar! Go check them out! Here are some of my all-time favourite Naruto fanfiction (because a community or ''favourites' page is never enough):
Vapors by ElectraSev5n. Status: Complete. This ninja business? It isn't for the faint of heart. Luckily Aiko is far from faint, even if she did get stuck with a ridiculously girly name. SI, OC, whatever you want to call it. Rating is for language. My take: Nearly 700k words, 102 well-written chapters, brilliant flow and a realistic plot. Hands-down one of the best OC-centrics. I was hoping it would be a Kakashi/OC fanfiction, and although there are subtle hints (and blunt ones here and there), I'm not sure if this will go on in the sequel. It's technically not lacking romance. Though I would suggest reading it on AO3 if you're into smut. Also! Cliff-hanger. Read at your own risk, it leaves you hanging. Bound by deardeer. Status: Incomplete. Five years ago, Ren left the village with one goal in mind: to break a bond that's plagued her family for the past century. Even now that she's back, it's the only thing she's concerned about and she will go to any lengths to be free. canon fic. My take: One of the best fan fiction, 108 chapters and 600k words or more. It's centered around Sasuke and an OC -- I wouldn't say they're a pairing, but I've definitely seen chemistry between them, as well as between the OC and Shikamaru. Only time will tell what pairing is going to be end-game. The emphasis right now is on bonds and the character development is amazing. Catch Your Breath by Lang Noi. Status: Incomplete. Inspired by Silver Queen's "Dreaming of Sunshine." Ripples turn into waves and crash upon the shores of what is and what could be, and I was just someone else who got pulled under. I didn't realize that even a drowning person makes waves of their own. A SI OC story. My take: No particular pairing, it's based on character development and bonds of friendship rather than romance. The majority of the first forty or so chapters is pre-Obito's presumed death in Gaiden and it focuses on the OC's ambition of changing the future for the better, even if just a little. Spider Thread by blackcatgirl. Status: Incomplete. I was never afraid of dying. I lived my life to the fullest and expected it to be cut short, all because of my dangerous profession. I expected to die young. I expected hell. What I did not expect was for this shit to happen. OC-insert. Because the plot bunnies have laid siege to my brain. My take: Absolutely amazing, slightly AU self-insert of a real life assassin who ends up reincarnated as a helpless girl in the Narutoverse. Needless to say, she pretends to be a boy so that she's safer -- with only a handful of people knowing her true identity -- and she befriends Itachi and Shisui. It's harder to tell them the truth than it seems to be, though. The characters aren't exactly OOC, but it's pre-massacre and it's under question whether the massacre will even happen. That being said, everyone is really cute and likeable. Even if the OC is antagonistic at times: rather, it's like a constant inner battle between being the good guy or being the bad guy. Gravity by Sayuri-hime. Status: Incomplete. Sequel of Slowly Slipping Away. Three years have passed since he had left. Three years and she was well on her way to fulfilling her childhood dream. Yet his constant presence in her mind is making her rethink her dream. Maybe being head of the ANBU isn't all there is to it. SasukexOC My take: Amazing. I loved the OC and the flow the writer has with words. NejixOC was included as a side pairing. Cliff-hanger at the last chapter, but unfortunately the story seems to be on hiatus. Iryo-nin Kasa by Vaegnir. Status: Incomplete. Whoever said death is nothing to be afraid of have likely lived a full life. Though, I suppose the same could be said for the reverse. Those who fear death have never truly lived, but I'm getting a little ahead of myself. My name is Kasa, the idiot who doesn't know how to die properly. And let me tell you, dying hurts. OC Self-insert My take: Fantastic AU with a realistic plot and a hilarious OC. There is no definite romance, but the OC is being shipped with several characters. It's more focused on friendship and character development right now. The character is insert when Obito supposedly dies. The Origins by . Status: Incomplete. "The Uchihas are a cursed clan." Hatred, and vengeance were a given and Tobirama had always been so sure of this so why was it that when he turned around, an Uchiha was smiling at him? Tobirama/OC My take: Tobirama is a stud. Senju/Uchiha romance is seriously one of the best. The character development throughout the chapters is staggering. Air for Life by thebeagle. Status: Incomplete. A story that follows the ninja girl Toshi who's a rebelious orphan. When Kakashi and team 7 is assigned to capture her, they find out that she's quite a handfull, especially for Kakashi. Will she end up in prison? Full summary inside. KakashixOC My take: Beautiful character development. This is the one fanfic that does not stray from canon personality at any point. Kakashi is so realistic that it's unbelievable, and I'm not even going to commend on how steadily the OC underwent her psychological change. Invincible: In my First Life by Iland Girl. Status: Complete. I never knew of love, so I was fine being hated. I never knew of dreams, so I was fine pretending. I never knew of family, so I was fine being alone. I never knew how to keep living, so I was fine hiding under a rock. These are all important lessons you taught me, and although there were some that hurt, it changed me for the better, built me up, and made me Invincible. Kakashi x OC My take: I'll be honest here, I absolutely loved the story up until Obito's death. This was written before it was common truth that Tobi = Obito, so Obito really is dead, and he just happened to be the OC's best friend and sort-of-lover. And then he died and Kakashi and Rin got together and I absolutely love Rin, but she was made OOC here because we simply didn't know anything about her when this fanfic was written, other than the fact that she did not return Obito's feelings and used the day of his death to confess to Kakashi. Yeah, she didn't really come across as the compassionate and self-sacrificial woman she actually is, and that irked me. Her relationship with Kakashi also did. The OC's relationship with Kakashi did. But despite how much hate I harbour for a plethora of aspects in this story, the writer is amazing. She draws you in and keeps you reading no matter what. The ending was kind of open in a way, but it has a sequel which I'm in the process of reading. INVINCIBLE: Right Here Waiting -- and all's good, except it's incomplete and on hiatus. Bite me! by Rima-Chan. Status: Complete. Being stuck in an arranged marriage with a sweet man...Not so bad. Being stuck in an arranged marriage with a psychopathic, bad tempered asshole is hell. Even if he looks drop dead gorgeous...and is the leader of the Uchiha clan... MadaraxOC AU My take: This has one of the best and most romantic endings ever. I bawled my eyes out because Madara and Yuna's relationship was so beautiful, although it progressed slowly and seemed rather horrifying at first. It was written before it became global knowledge that Tobi isn't Madara, so the ending is AU. But that's what makes the ending so superb. Another Light: The Story of Ayae by PureWaterLily. Status: Incomplete. Bloodshed and tears, death and destruction, withered hopes and dreams. There are some people who will scream in the night if they saw it all. Itachi endured it. And this girl? Well, she has never seen any of it and never will. He promises. ItaOC. My take: It's centered around pre-massacre Itachi. The relationship he has with the OC is extremely touching and, dare I say it, cute. This is the fan-fiction which has the best description of the plot: talk about concise and intriguing. Fireborn by kage no seikatsu. Status: Complete. Koizumi Kiruma is different. She didn't choose to be, she didn't want to be, but she is. And a certain silver haired ninja seems to always be getting in her way, until... he isn't. Slow burner, no pun intended KakashiOC My take: I cannot wait for the sequel because the ending of Fireborn was such a cliffhanger! I absolutely adore fanfiction where Root is involved, as it is here. The author has a way with words and brilliant flow. Forethought by beemera. Status: Incomplete. Whoever said dying was blissful deserved a kick in the wazoo. Unfortunately, I'd never heard a saying appropriate for being reborn into an impossible place. DISCLAIMER: I don't own NARUTO. Semi-self-insert/OC My take: The main character here is SO badass, her team dynamics is amazing and I just love the bond she has with Kushina. In fact, she's practically a chibi Kushina, including the Uzumaki heritage! I love this, and I can't wait for more chapters to come out to see whether Obito survives. I just generally can't wait to see the OC as a grown-up. Hikari: Path of the Avenger by Sapphire-Raindrop. Status: Complete. Sequel (incomplete, hiatus): Sasuke: Beginning of the End. I never knew who I was, really. I mean sure, my name was Lily Thompson, but I always had the feeling that I was something...more. That all changed the day I fell into the arms of a black haired boy whose eyes were like onyx...the onyx eyes of an avenger. My take: I actually read this a long time ago, back when the 1st part wasn't even finished. I believe this was my first self insert story and as such I hold it really dear to my heart. The setting (as I remember it) seems to be realistic enough and Sasuke isn't OOC, which is a great feat for Sasuke-based fan fiction. Perfectly Imperfect People by RedZinnie. Status: Complete. Not all angels are meant to keep their wings, but learning to walk in the way of the humans can leave even the dullest authors writing riveting books for ages. Kakashi x OC My take: It's basically the love story of the infamous jounin and a mere civillian. I absolutely loved it, although I don't normally go for stories where there's a ''true love'' ex involved -- I guess something just irks me about those. Ever Dance with the Devil, baby? by kao-dreams. Status: Compete. One-shot. When I promised to stick by him through anything, I really meant it. But even more than that, I would become his release. Itachi x unnamed lover. My take: I bawled my eyes out. It felt incredibly real and it was a plausible take on what really could have been going on pre-massacre. Beautiful in its candid simplicity. Living With and Without Itachi Uchiha by Nocturnal Lane. Status: Complete. Drabbles. The day she was born, he was there. The day she was dying, he wasn't there. Uchiha Itachi/OC Living With and Without Her by Nocturnal Lane. Status: Complete. Drabbles. The day he was born, she wasn't there yet. The day he died, she was there. Itachi/OC. Companion fanfic to "Living With and Without Uchiha Itachi." My take on both of Nocturnal Lane's stories: I've never been a fan of drabbles. But the pattern, the way the writer carried out every single chapter, the candid simplicity of everything, the interaction between Itachi and the OC -- it got me hooked. Best Itachi drabble series out there, seriously. Read them.
Another Way to Serve by the point. Status: Incomplete. The Kumo kidnapping destroys Hinata's Byakugan and her chances of becoming a shinobi. Removed from the village, Hinata adopts a life outside of the shinobi, never expecting to return again. But after the Fourth Ninja War, Konoha's economy is in dire straits and the Rokudaime asks for her aid. She is called to serve her village, not as a ninja, but as a civilian. My take: This is seriously the only good KakaHina fanfic out there -- because let's face, it's not one of the most popular crack ships. But this is amazing -- the romance hasn't even started at this point, but the setting and the plot are fantastic. That being being said, at some point I was worried because it's seemed like it was on hiatus, but the author's back and posting chapters again! This is a must-read.
The Chaos Theory by Bullwinkle's Lady. Status: Complete. "If you die, I die," he mentioned. "Tell me when you're ready." Time travel story. SasuHina. My take: This is legitimately the best time-travel fanfic. Sasuke and Hinata are so... real, Naruto and Sakura as well. Things change, they really do. The fanfic can be quite confusing at times and you might need to re-read chapters to get them, or go back 10 chapters to draw a parallel. It's the complexity of the world Bullwinkle's Lady created that draws me in. The ending had me bawling for an hour straight. She's a cruel writer, that one. SasuHina by Eglaya. Status: Complete. He's blind. She can't care less. My take: Simply brilliant. The title itself doesn't draw your attention as it's just the name of the pairing, but the plot is amazing. This is hands down the best SasuHina fanfic. Fifty Days by ohgoditsbriony. Status: Incomplete. "In fifty days, Uchiha Sasuke will be executed." For fifty days, she will visit him. For fifty days, he will fall steadily in love. —Sasuke/Hinata My take: The description speaks for itself. An extremely heart-felt fan fiction where Sasuke and Hinata are constantly in character. I couldn't wait to see what the end would be, but alas: it is on hiatus. Nightmares by Fher34. Status: Incomplete. How fitting that in his darkness, she would find peace and how fitting that in her agony, he would find life. A story of two individuals living in the depths of a dark reality that would turn into dreams. My take: This is actually more angsty and dark than the fan-fiction that I normally read. Sasuke gives off the impression that he's borderline insane and he's slightly reminiscent of the person that he was during the kage summit. Hinata seems to become that little light he's so possessive of. It's interesting, but I can't tell in what direction the fanfic is going. On the one hand, I think Hinata and Sasuke will only end up further breaking one another. On the other, it seems they help each other mend. My One in a Million by Renoa Heartlilly. Status: Complete. In a world of many options, he only really needs one. In-Universe, post-War Sasuhina. Finished. My take: In-universe, in-character. This work simply had my heart racing the whole time. Paint with Words by Ink Child. Status: Incomplete. He's been given the world again, he's been given more than he had before, and now she's there, breakable like glass and more precious to him than anything should be. Itachi 'will' fall. My take: This is the first AU modern day fan fiction that I ever read, back in 2010. And it's honestly one of the best. Sasuke's story was realistic and both he and Hinata were in character, their personality depicted just as they are in Naruto. It's a shame such a wonderful story was put on hiatus and the author has yet to log back in .
The Girl from Whirlpool by SilverShrine. Status: Incomplete. When Naruto's father met his mother, his only impression was that a village out there must have been missing its idiot. Minato/Kushina. My take: Omg. This fanfic is the best MinaKushi fanfic out there. Scratch that, this is THE best fanfiction in this site, seriously. It doesn't follow events exactly as they are in canon: there's no Mito or kidnapping for example, but the plot is still so believable and just brilliant. The writing, too -- I don't even have words to describe what a way this author has with words! I could ramble on and on about how astonishing this piece is, but at the all I'm left with is the sadness that the author seems to have vanished and the story is left unfinished. But in a way, that's good. I couldn't bear to read about both of them dying and seeing their last moments with each other through their very own perspective. I would be crushed. So I guess it's for the better, ne? Still, this is a complete must-read for anyone that enjoys Naruto and is fond of Minato and Kushina as a pair. Titian's Revenge by Persephonae. Status: Complete. Kushina stumbled into Konoha a refugee from a war-torn Whirlpool. Even the smart-mouthed kunoichi could have never predicted the legacy she would leave to the village that gave her a second chance. Slow developing MinaKush. PRE-CH 498. My take: Omg. Just read this, okay? The beginning at first really disturbed me because Minato was so OOC from who he was as a child in canon, but then I realized that back when the author wrote that we didn't have those touching MinaKushi scenes in the manga, so she had to come to conclusions herself. Nevertheless, the fanfic grows to follow canon and the relationship is a slow-burner, but totally worth it! It has like, an open ending where you can imagine a happier reality where Minato and Kushina are alive and survive and and and--but then she posted the *real* ending and I just sobbed in the corner the whole day. How It All Began by Lagadette. Status: Incomplete. Minato Namikaze was the legend of Konoha, the hero who died for his people and for his beliefs. What led to this sacrifice? What are the trials he had to face in his own time? My take: A touching story that tries to follow canon as closely as possible. Once again I'm faced with a cruel cliff hanger and possible hiatus. However, I still believe the hours spent on reading this fanfic are not a waste. Echoes of the Past by Jleebean. Status: Complete. One-shot. Their sensei’s first thought was, I love them already—but his first words were, “Kakashi, get your foot off Obito’s head.” [Team Yondaime 20 Truths style] My take: This isn't a MinaKushi fanfic, but it's a one shot centerer around Minato. I loved the team dynamics here and this is what I genuinely imagine Team Yondaime to be like prior to Obito's presumed death. Bereft by ncfan. Status: Complete. One-shot. -Kushina, Mito- A bitter trade has been made. My take: This is also not MinaKushi -- in fact, Minato was not mentioned once in this short one-shot. It's Kushina-centric right after she becomes to vessel for the demon and it's extremely heart-wrenching. |
