Author has written 24 stories for Newsies, and Outsiders.
Origin of my pen name:
Phoebe: I just realized something. Joker is poker with a j... coincidence?
-From TV Show 'Friends'
My ACTUAL name is Emily :) Nice of you to stop by and take a lookie at my profile! I finally decided to update it because it was prett-y lame before. So, now it'll be less lame...>.>
I am an avid reader and writer of the Newsies category as you will find out if you scroll down to my stories. I have dabbled in a few Outsiders ones but at the moment I'm just working on newsies.
On another note I have a story floating out there that I'm currently co-writing with my friend Grunge Sponge under her pen name so go check it out!:
Normal is a Town in Illinois - Hazard has normal, everyday issues such as selling her newspapers, carry the weight of being second-in-command to Spot Conlon, and keeping her newsie life a secret from her over-protective father and three brothers.
Now, onto a little bit of a background on my (multi-chapter) stories (In order of publication from most recent to past):
How We Heal: Ambitious, bitter, work-a-holic David Jacobs is bent on making The Benjamin Hotel the most luxurious hotel in New York-and probably everywhere else. Striving to fill an aching emptiness inside him, he becomes consumed with the plans of his new expansion and nothing can break his concentration…until the Imperial Russian Ballet comes to town. Fourth installment in the Benjamin Hotel Series
Numb Redux: Re-write of my original story Numb. I kept thinking of all the things wrong with the original and I just had to try my hand at an improved version ;) I'm pretty excited to see where it goes. There are a lot of changes I plan to make from the original!
Monster : A one shot that turned into a three (or four) chapter story. Focuses on Wicked, from Say When and Following You. Written mainly for my darling friend xxWicked Wench but if anyone enjoyed the characters Wicked and Joker and wanted to read a rather dark tale from their universe :)
Following You : The sequel to Say When. I have a quite a few subplots to this one, so the chapters will take awhile to get out. Please be patient!!
Desperate Measures: The Third in the Benjamin Hotel series. Blink and Katherine's story as well as Carlos and his mysterious lady's story!
When It Comes to Love : The Second in the Benjamin Hotel Series. Centers around Mush and the woman he falls in love with. Vivian is a widower and a single mother whose husband left her a debt to a gang you'll be familiar with from All In. I do recommend reading the series in order, as some of the side characters (Carlos) will be taking on bigger roles (particularly Blink's story).
All In : So, I really wanted to do a fun/epic Racetrack love story. I put it through several edits until one late night (or really early morning) I sat down and wrote the prologue. It turned into a series so this is the FIRST of the Benjamin Hotel Series. The rest is history. :) It is set seven years after the strike and we meet Racetrack, Mush, and Blink who are all employed at the Benjamin Hotel, owned and operated by David Jacobs. This story revolves around Racetrack and Clara, his best friends sister, going on a crazy trip to Chicago to bring home the one and only Jack Kelly for a very mysterious reason...
Say When : In response to the many cliches of girls being sent to Brooklyn to be protected. Where something unimaginable happens, Spot gets betrayed! But, he's found and taken in by (luckily) a nurse and her two daughters.
A Ragged Army : Oh, this is a baby of mine. Originally published YEARS ago as The Story of Asylum, I got fed up with it and deleted the lot of it. I completely re-wrote the first chapter using only hints of the old story and was left with (what I believe to be) one of my greatest pieces of writing. I know it's not perfect, but I truthfully believe that flaws make things more interesting! :)
The Curse of Love : Although I wrote it when I was younger and I believe it needs major modifications I'm actually quite proud of it. It's definitely an AU in which there is a magic that causes a young girl to be frozen as her seventeen year old self for almost four hundred years (not literally frozen, she just doesn't age). Very weird, you'd think but hey we all have a time travel story. You think that's any less weird?? :3
Infamous : Definitely another one of my babies, I was OBSESSED with the thought of a strong, female lead. I know opposites attract, but sometimes there's just this magnetism with someone who understands you in a way that no one else does. I felt for this story that Spot needed Infamous, who is the leader of a group of kids that live in the sewers known as 'sewsies'. It may be a far out-there idea but I had a lot of fun with it! (Shameless plug, xxWicked Wench has a kind of 'tip-of-the-hat, her words not mine, to my sewsies in her story Chess. They're referred to as Mud Larks, which is much more creative than sewsies. lol)
Numb : In the Reviews, Hits, Favorites and Alert category this is my most popular. Don't ask me why. I LOVED writing it, but when I went back to look at it about 8 months ago (with more writing experience under my belt) I could not get passed the third chapter. No lie, this is crappy writing. I have plans in the future when I'm not working on anything else to COMPLETELY re-edit this entire story with a version that doesn't suck. Though, I did find out from my psychology teacher that if a baby had no feeling it probably wouldn't have lived. :(
Fire Starters, A MindReader, and the Time Machine : I have better stories lol. But, I keep it up because I have a major soft-spot for this fic. But, seriously go read something else haha.
Something to Hold Onto : Not my first ever fic, because I deleted the crap that was written before it. This story is full of cliches and terribly over used plot lines and NO character building at all, but I keep it up because it was one of the first fics that wasn't complete trash and I can still read through it occasionally and see just how far my writing has come! :)
*Stranded : Has been deleted due to the fact that I could not take that story anywhere for the life of me :/*
The rest of my stories are one-shots that were written in moments of inspiration and you can read at your leisure at any given time. Some ARE better than others but in either case, writing a one-shot is sometimes a nice break from writing a multi-chapter story.
Untitled: Fifth Installment in the BHS. Jack will be getting his own story because it's only fair!!
Now, I will stop rambling about my fics and entertain you guys with a few quotes I enjoy:
An original quote by me for my love of Newsies, "I want a Cowboy, a man who owns a city, a gambler, and a pessimist. I want one who turns me to mush, that wears an eye patch, and learns to use his voice. I want a newsie."
"CLOSING LIBRARIES DURING A RECESSION IS LIKE CLOSING HOSPITALS DURING A PLAGUE."
"Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyways." -Unknown (at least I couldn't find who said it!)
"Sometimes I lie awake at night, and ask, 'Where have I gone wrong?' Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night.'" -Charles M. Shulz
"What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." -Henry David Thoreau
"You can't hear the world laughing at you if you're laughing harder." Cougar Town.
Ron: "Favorite Aimee Mann song on three, one...two...three!"
-He was born in the wrong era, on the wrong side of the river, with the ability to do anything and finding nothing he wants to do. --S.E. Hintons' Rumble Fish
