I'm a massive supporter of slash! Haha! And of the camp where if you pair up Cedric or Severus with Harry you do NOT kill them off. That's just cruel and unusual. I mean seriously, if you ship it, you should neva kill it! NEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER. And with that minor rant done (hey it's 4:36am right now and I just finished another one where Cedric dies and reread one where Harry commits suicide after Severus dies, I'm fairly irrational) I move on to telling you this, if you want to talk to me, do it :D I love PM conversations. They're fun. Especially when we're in 'OMG THEY'RE FRACKIN' ADORABLE' conversations. For my glee fans, I'm sorry with the slow updates, Raising an Angel has been frustrating and my soul died with the fourth chapter of A Broken Rope. I promise both chapters are on my computer being slowly worked out. I have at least two pages for both! It's just my more recent Harry Potter works have been frolicking and fornicating like the little plot bunnies they are. I will get those chapters out! It just takes longer than I wanted or expected. Also! I have an adopted fic I'll be putting up soon. I'm sorry to the author I got it from, I've been distracted. Hating college will do that to you. Personal info includes I'm a native born USA citizen and I'm attending university right now to get my undergraduate degree in History so I can later become a teacher for high school. I'm pretty happy, if a bit nervous about how much writting I'll probably end up doing by the time I graduate. *smile* Also! I am in desperate need of a beta who is willing to work with an AU-slash Naruto fanfiction with a NaruXKiba pairing. I have this huge 100K monster on my laptop and really need some feedback and critique I can work with. Really really really could use a beta for it. Honest to God. Girls Your result for The Sorting Hat: A Comprehensive Harry Potter Personality Assessment [Test/Quiz]... Ravenclaw 54% Ravenclaw, 52% Hufflepuff, 44% Slytherin and 48% Gryffindor! Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind; The cardinal traits of Ravenclaw are intellect, wit and openness to experience. They are the most introverted house of the four. Ravenclaws are more likely to prefer small gatherings of like-minded individuals and require recooperation after stressful social interaction. These individuals are intuitive creatures, the quintessential researchers. They lack the stubborn, strict, and rule-abiding qualities that would inhibit intellectual growth—one can't be too set in their ways if they are to be open to exploring new ideas and paths of contrast to Slytherin and Gryffindor, Ravenclaws in general are much more emotionally stable. Their reactions seem dampened compared to the sometimes dramatic responses of the other houses—they're much less likely to get offended, they're more open to criticism, not particularly argumentative and interested in hearing different points of view. They can at times seem to be less interested in people and more interested in their own inner world, and appear to be disconnected from the rest of humanity. Ambition is secondary to them. Although they may strive to excel in school, knowledge and self-enrichment is the primary goal as opposed to simply wanting good marks. If they do happen to strive for excellence, it is because it fits with their other goals, not out of a desire to be superior or the best. Due to their intuitiveness and willingness to listen, Ravenclaws can be empathetic and make good advisors. They should generally leave leadership roles to people who are more extraverted and who would enjoy them more, however. Take The Sorting Hat: A Comprehensive Harry Potter Personality Assessment [Test/Quiz] at HelloQuizzy Random Suggestions for Stories: I love Harry Potter Crossovers, the only problem is I fall absolutely in love with crossovers with stories or series I have not read and have no intention of devoting energy to since honestly if I did I would loose even more studying time, I'm in college, I need to focus. Because, either way, and to be completely honest, it's a rather bad habit to read as much as I do, I read more than I sleep or attend class combined, bad, bad habit. Of course, this doesn't mean I don't have fantasies and a desperate need for updates and things to keep me motivated when I'm writing. So here's a few ideas I have that will likely never pan out for myself... Honestly, Brain why do you give me these idea(s)?! I cannot use them?! These ideas go to a free home, I just ask you let me know if you ever decide to use them. I might even work up the energy to review if you do... (Another bad habit is the reluctance to review, I read an enormous amount but don't review as often as I should, I apologize to the hundreds of authors I'm neglecting...I count as visiting points?) Idea #1 Crossover: Percy Jackson and the Olympian x Harry Potter Pairing: Slash: Nico di Angelo, Son of Hades, the Ghost King x Harry Potter, Master of Death. General Idea and complaint: Why the blood freakin' gosh is there not a pairing for these two?! Is there one and I'm just missing it or something? Anyway, I don't see why there isn't a romantic pairing between these two. There's hundreds of Harry Potter the Master of Death crossover with Avengers, and Bleach, and others but there isn't one yet of a NicoxMaster of Death pairing?! I have not read the series, but there's got to be plenty of slots you can slip the two together, right? Nico goes after the Resurrection Stone in an attempt to resurrect Bianca, Thanatos or Hades tells Nico to go to the Master of Death to learn to use his powers better, Nico summons spirits and calls on the spirit of Harry Potter via Astral Projection on accident and has to go on a quest to find Harry who has been locked up in Azkaban ever since the Final Battle after being betrayed by his closest friends for his wealth... WHY IS THIS NOT HAPPENING?! I'm so sorry for all of you who are going, "Amni, write this, why aren't you writing this?!" Reason is as stated above, I don' wanna get sucked into a series. Honestly, I haven't read an actual book or series in at least two years roughly. I've given up reading anything but fanfiction and my own desperate attempts at writing. If anyone is interested in this and wants to bounce ideas off of me, PM for the love of everything fanfiction and shipping. Takers: Idea #2 Crossover: Percy Jackson and the Olympians x Harry Potter Pairings: none, do what you will General Idea: Charon was always complaining about his job not paying enough, and its obvious that the Underworld is understaffed, so what if Hades, pretending to be Death, decided to set a trap for the legacies of Hectate by creating three items of great power. If any person managed to get a certain Hallow it meant immediate placement to one of the three places in the Underworld, i.e. the Deathstick for the Fields of Punishment, and a shortened lifespan in the case of the wand and stone, the cloak not much better since it encouraged rule-breaking, mischief and insomnia in those who were lacking in cunning and wisdom. However, if anyone ever was able to bring all three together and died while doing a heroic deed then they instantly became a servant of Death, not Master of Death, since as usual, translations get screwed up in the process and the correct term was: His Master is Death. And Harry Potter, fitted the bill. Takers: Things That Make Me Want To Murder You, My Not-So-Dear, and Very Naive Beginning Writers: Okay, so this might seem to be a little tacky, but forthwrightness is needed and its a near damnable shame to me that so many writers on fanfiction do this, or rather these things. To be perfectly blunt I believe it is necessary to air these grievances. So I'm begging you, if you read this and are contemplating writing a story, take these as tips. Things writers do that are completely unnecessary: 1) Demeaning your story in the summary. I don't care if it's your first posted story. Let me repeat that for emphasis, I DONOT CARE IF IT'S YOUR FIRST STORY. If I decide to read your story, it won't matter if it is your first or your hundredth, only that I have more reading material. Personally, I find it off-putting that authors find it necessary to say "this is a better story than my summary," or "please be nice it's my first story." Honest to God, I don't care. The second I see the schmoozing I lose complete interest. If you're posting the story, there's a good chance what you have is somewhat decent. If it's not...Well you shouldn't be begging for "nice" comments and instead asking for "constructive" comments. Labeling anything as a "first story" unless its in a series, and then please do that if it is a part of a series you're writing, is completely irrelevant to me. Frankly, you've wasted several spaces where you could lure me in to read. If you feel it is still necessary to beg for kind reviews or state it is your first story and you want constructive criticism, then do what the several hundred --nay-- thousands of other writers do. Tack it on in an author's note at the beginning or end your chapter. Stop demeaning your story by expressing a lack of confidence in your summary. If you're not confident in your story, why did you even bother putting it up? It's insulting to you, it's annoying and insulting to me, and completely pointless. There might be authors or readers out there that will review any story they see with notes like that, but it's just ridiculous to "ask for kind reviews because it's my first story" in the summary. Stop doing it, or never do it please. For any story, you should always express confidence, and if you can't write a summary that is satisfactory to you immediately at the point of posting your story, you can always rewrite it. You are allowed to do that. 2) Your lack of proofreading is killing me. Sometimes posting un-beta'd is fine, and not having a beta when you're starting out is nothing to be ashamed of. Some authors feel the need to place a notice at the beginning if they're between betas. Some may even ask for beta applications within the first chapter. That does not mean you can post something that is completely illegible grammatically, structurally, or even rationally however. While I understand one may be overcome with excitement and post immediately (ny own stories reflect this) there are still mistakes. No matter how good an editor, proofreader, beta, or whatever grammatical nazi you may be, sometimes things just fall through when you're starting out. So help yourself out. A lot of the "why did I write that," mistakes can be found just by you constantly rereading what you wrote. Honestly! There's no misspelling that galls you as much as the one you thought you corrected while writing it the first time, or the sneaky homonym that you wrote in the replacement of the proper word. Keeping an eye on your spelling, grammar and structure will help your plot. If something sounds off, then it usually is off. Re-reading helps fix plot holes, keeps you honest about your own development, and can even remind you of story twists and symbolism you came up with. Some authors are free-writers without a long thought out period of research and development, and others have every single chapter planned out months ahead of time. Either or, you as a writer should constantly be your biggest fan and critic. Be hard on yourself when you proofread and be happy with yourself when your proofread. (And get a beta if you know you could really do with the help. Not all of us are English or other Literary majors specializing in grammar and sentence structure.) 3) Why are you rushing? Take a breath, you're just about to plow into a wall. That's you rushing your story to where you want to end up leaving plot holes unanswered, characters undeveloped and relationships unexplored. What scenary just blew by that we missed? And why does the main character act like that? He/She is completely out of character(OOC)! Just like when you're driving, explaining a recipe, or simply giving directions, you as a writer need to have sharp attention to details. While you're driving the "bus" we're along voluntarily and will get off if we don't like the way you steer. The destination is just as important as how you get there. Just like you hate going over roads that are unpaved at speeds that would make supersonic speeds look slow, readers like to know what's going on. I'm not saying you should spoon feed anything or everythign to us, heaven's forbid you tell us the whole tale while answering a reviewer's question, but like several fine wines, chocolates, foods and lovers, we like to enjoy what we're getting into. You've lured us into your story. Now you need to keep us there. This is one of the trickiest parts of writing, I understand and acknowledge it! Updating, idea retention and creation, and even finishing can be a monumental mountain. I'm a terrible updater at times. I always have new ideas buzzing around like irritating flies and bees! However, you don't want to rush through anything and miss something that could truly set your story apart from others. Concept development is critical for your story. You don't want to get to the end and say, "by golly, I should rewrite this whole thing." Your readers, or at least me, will not always thank you for rewriting all of it. 4) Your Original Character (OC) is Clearly You or is making me want to KILL You. I think most would agree that it is very tacky to put yourself into a story. I'm being completely honest. It is exceedingly irritating to find a brand new character serving as the main character in a story that is well loved and known for the characters it already has from the very get go. Not to say adding a new steamy leading lady (or hunk for all my fellow slash readers) can't be delicious, but sometimes your OC overtakes the whole story or proves to be some fantasy revolving around you, the writer, that makes me want to twitch. There has been many a story that includes an unforeseen OC serving as a main character who completely overshadows the original characters. Unless the story is a complete alternative universe (AU), and I mean seriously diverging from cannon, do not include them ostentatiously. I become completely frustrated when I come across an OC character serving as a main character. There's great stories where OCs are main supporting, or even main characters, Starlight Massacre's works dealing with her Drackens is a clear example of this as well as Miranda Flairgold's works, however, these stories are by experiences, knowledgeable writers, who made a completely new world or AU and these characters are necessary to flesh it out. Naming yourself as a character sucked into Harry Potter's world, or Supernatural, or Game of Thrones, or whatever fanfiction you may delve into, and then making yourself out to be some God-like figure makes me want to stab you. I read Harry Potter to read Harry Potter, not "insert your name." I'm sorry, but it's true. Now, there are exceptions...Or rather I've found exceptions myself, while also finding I like the creation of alternative universes with original characters. Several stories out there are SI-OFC/SI-OMC, and they're good. They're addicting and alternative-universes have always been one of my favorite things in fanfiction before giving in to desperation and reading an AU with SI-OC. This does not mean you do not have to be careful with how you write the story. If you decide to make it completely canon please stop and consider how it can even be possible to have such a story be canon with you in it...The answer to that it is of course it won't be. Remember the story can be completely cracked as long as it's good and you enjoy it. 5) Your OTP is cute, but your story is like a slice of generic bread, nothing new and nothing innovative. If you can't leave cannon or fannon behind in your new story...Please, I'm praying, make sure it is grammatically superior to anything else I will come across, well paced, have superb romance, and be even better than what J.K Rowling wrote originally. Otherwise I think it's pretty safe to say you're plagerizing without doing what fanfiction is really about. Dabbling, experimenting, teasing and trying out new things with loved characters, or by God putting the characters you think should be together together is what many fanfiction writers are attempting. If you're going to write a story where Harry and Ginny get together, then by all that is holy make sure it invloves them actually developing as a couple. If you're going to put Harry and Draco together give me something more than the usual "rivals-to-angry sexual partners-to-I can't live without you lovers." And if you dare to Snarry, why not try putting Harry on top? There's so many great things you can do. Please don't just type out something that can be found by the baker's dozens. 6) Keep it accurate! If you don't remember what happened between A and C in one of Harry's adventures, there's a wikipedia and lexicon online for all Harry Potter secrets, information, and background stuff. Use it. Research is your friend, and you should never discount it. I hate getting into a story and the author uses a "well everybody knows this is how it is" type reference. It's likes cutting off your nose to spite your face. If you don't actually know the real Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, please don't quote Supernatural as a source, they're inaccurate and just go online and look it up. If you don't know the ingredients in a potion, look it up. If you aren't sure of when Columbus made land fall, who made velcro, or any other innane fact you can't think of off the top of your head, RESEARCH IT. God have mercy. Don't be the person who cuts corners. A lot of things are interesting just by themselves if you make sure the trivia is correct! You don't have to be an expert in everything, just an expert on ferreting things out! I really hope that whoever reads this finds this helpful. I'm always here. I'm always reading. Good luck. AUTHOR UPDATE: APRIL 6, 2015 - Okay... I'm alive... Mostly... I'm so sorry no updates have been happening, but school and a new job are killing me. My laptop is also down and out and I haven't had a chance to get it fixed or buy a new one. I promise I'm not ignoring you all, it's just I can't really update on my tablet. School computers are also not that helpful and whenever I have free time I'm asleep or doing homework. I haven't actually seen the floor of my room since probably before December and have started to eat way too much take out again... Sorry for such a ramble of words, I promise to try and get something out in the upcoming months, but I beg you, please hold on a bit longer! |
