Author has written 10 stories for Harry Potter, Fringe, and Les Misérables.
So, I've decided to update my profile because a friend of mine told me that it was slightly hostile. What a whorecrux.
My name is Mariam and I'm currently fifteen. For almost eight years, I've been living in England but I'm Egyptian through and through. Born and sort-of-kind-of-bred. I now live in Newcastle instead of London, which I prefer because legitsies, it's NEWCASTLE FOR THE WIN. My home town's Cairo and that will forever be my favourite place in the world. My mother tongue's Arabic but I'm fluent in English and according to my friends, I have a posh accent. I'm okay in French, but it's all textbook stuff. Right now, I'm doing this French course because I've been taking French since I was six and I'm still not damn fluent. And I'm also learning Russian right now because I want to read the original Anna Karenina.
I love school. Not in a forever studying kind of way (because I'm the slacker that scrapes a good grade by cramming before the test), but as in I enjoy so many of my subjects. I take Drama which is simply amazing. How many people can say that they crawled across a table in front of two hundred people? Aside from strippers? I also do Music and I am working towards my cello grade two right now. Shut up cellos are cool. I love Maths soley for the fact that I love solving equations and I adore Chemistry. I'm really passionate about Physics, especially time and space. Timetravel has got to be one of my favourite all time topics. Yes, I'm sad and pathetic; let's move on. I've been wanting to get into Oxford since I was six. Again with the pathetic thing, but there you have it. I would love to study PPE because I love politics. My friends say that's an indicator of something. I say that it's perfectly healthy.
Books. Where do I start? Harry Potter is and will always remain my favourite Universe. To me it's not a collection of seven books; it's a world. A world full of life and laughter and love and loss and so many damn emotions that make you feel when you read it that you're not simply looking at pages and reading words; you are living the story. Some say it's simply a children's book, I say that it's a book that grows with you. You read The Philosopher's Stone when you're ten to about twelve years old, and it's filled with magic castles and dragons and trolls and sherbet lemons. Then gradually, the outlook of the books change. When you read The Deathly Hallows you see a world torn by war and people who are not categorised into good and bad; they are simply human. There's fighting and death and it prepares you for life. Everytime I reread the books, I transform from a naive, childish version of myself, to someone who knows about family and honour and loyalty and death. We are in no way the characters, but we are right beside them.
As far as books that haven't completely overshadowed my childhood go, my favourite book has to be The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope. It's a beautiful story filled with fighting, loyalty, righteousness and impossible love. I'm a complete sucker for impossible love stories. That's why I happen to be quiet in love with The Vampire Academy Series and absolutely enchanted with it's spin-off Bloodlines.
Most movies I watch tend to be on the emotional side. I generally avoid chick-flicks but sometimes a girl's just got to get some ice-cream and watch Mean Girls. Incidently, I movie I have watched at least once every two months since I was eleven. My absolute favourite movie is The Notebook. You say that that's so typical of a teenage girl, but I just genuinely love that movie. A close second is Titanic and right after is A Walk To Remember. I'm pretty sure you can spot the pattern with all the stories inside. I love The Princess Bride because it's beyond brilliant and a film everyone should see.
My music is not genre-compliant; I just listen to songs I like. I completely avoid all the "sex-drive" songs about "fucking that hoe" and that "dope ride". I like some rap, but mostly I go for the acoustic stuff. I adore The Script and every single one of their songs is on my phone. I love One Republic (they have a cellist!) and I really like Nickleback. The Individual artists I like are Ed Sheeran, Tyrone Wells, Enrique Iglesias (his old stuff), Adele, Kelly Clarkson and many more that I simply do not have time to list. I would say what Arabic music I like, but I doubt any arabic people will read this. I also love musical theatre. Like deep passionate love for it. My favourite musicals in order are Next to Normal, Les Mis/Phantom of the Opera (it depends on which soundtrack I've listened to more recently), Rent and Chicago.
My favourite TV show is Fringe. It's through Fringe that I read fanfiction for the first time when I read Elialys' beautiful piece In Time. Fringe has given me new friends all across the world and has made me feel involved and valued as a fan. From the tweet-outs at 1am in the morning to tweeting the producers, I feel like I have helped the show. It's absolutely BAMF. The characters make you care and almost the entire story is grey. There is no black and white; right and wrong, there are only people who are human.
That's all I can think of right now. If you are a fan of any of the aforementioned PM me, it's nice to know you're not alone :D
