Author has written 40 stories for Degrassi, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Blades of Glory, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Alexander, Wraeththu Chronicles, Hunger Games, and Twilight. I've decided this section will be used almost exclusively for info about my stories. It contains summaries as well as discussion about what I hoped to accomplish with the story, what my reasoning behind writing it was, etc. My profile may contain mild spoilers. So, my stories: Harry Potter Things I Never Knew: When Snape's son comes to Hogwarts, Harry discovers things about his Potions Master that he never imagined. Whew. I've been working on this one for a long time. This story (as you can really tell, if you pay attention) is actually two plot ideas mashed together. The first plot is Harry cutting himself, Snape finding out and mentoring him. Yes, it has been used before and it is a bit of a cliché for bad!fic, but I liked the idea, if not always the execution in most fics. The second plot deals with Snape's family and the revelation about their relationship to the Malfoys and is, I think, more original. In some ways, the story suffers because of this combination. In particular, it takes around ten chapters (much longer than I had anticipated) to even arrive at plot # 2, but I felt that Harry's emotional state absolutely had to be dealt with first. Of course, there are positives to this arrangement, mainly that I think Harry's cutting lends an emotional component to the story that it was otherwise lacking and it helps Harry, as a character, come to the place that I need him to be by the end of the story. A place that I don't think Harry was at during the end of OotP. One thing that readers need to understand about this story is that it was written pre-HBP and Harry's character changed so radically during HBP, that he seems a bit OOC in my story. I do not believe that he is OOC going by pre-HBP canon alone. Owned: Companion fic to Things I Never Knew. Deals with Braedon Snape, his life, his relationship to Draco and his feelings on being Owned. DracoBraedon I don't think that I am going to write a proper sequel to Things I Never Knew but this fic occurs in the same universe. My favorite part of Things I Never Knew was the concept of Ownership and I thought that my OC Braedon was the perfect lens through which to view it. Unlike Caydon, he is fully immersed in the Owned society -- he doesn't know anything outside it. He also has a pretty good view of both the Owned and the Owners. Plus I was really eager to play with his relationship with Draco. This should be several chapters long. Unhappy Birthday: Harry Potter was ruining Dudley's birthday. I wrote this fic for a contest, the contest being something like "tell a scene from the books, through the POV of a character other than Harry". Unhappy Birthday tells the events of Dudley's eleventh birthday through Dudley's POV. This is not Dursley apologetics. Dudley is still a brat in my story. But of course he was brat who didn't realize that he was a brat. This made him very fun to write, actually. I thought a lot about Eustace Scrubb from the The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when trying to capture Dudley's POV, but of course, I tailored the approach to fit Dudley's stupider and even more bully-ish personality. The Redhead: Snape always picks the redhead. So after DH came out, I listened to a lot of people whine about how Snape had been made into a virgin who never touched a woman all his life and obsessed over Lily. This may or may not be true, but it got me thinking about how one could incorporate Snape having a sex life into the canon where he is obsessed about Lily. This fic is one of the ideas that I came up with and I think that it plays to Snape's obsessive nature and his guilt very well. Bella Swann and the Sparklepire of Hogwarts: I had to write a crossover for a contest and since I don't normally write or read crossovers, I was at a bit of a loss. Then it came to me: Twilight parody. I could probably expand this into a larger fic, but I think it is pretty good the way it is as well. I really tried to capture Bella's arrogance and immaturity. Snape was the perfect subject for a "sparklepire" because he gets ticked off so easily and because there are so many romantic stories floating around the fandom about him. Real Father: AU. One night with Severus leaves Harry's parentage in doubt and turns Lily's world upside down. Snape/Lily. I've always found the idea of Snape as Harry's father interesting and for this fic I decided to concentrate on the part of this scenario that most people gloss over -- Lily's pregnancy and Harry's very early life. The focus here is on the adults, not on Harry. It is about Lily's relationships with both Severus and James. I think that the story is a bit slow to start, but I'm really trying to weave in the stories of some minor characters like Sirius and Remus as well as get the perspectives of the main characters who are involved. The Chronicles of Narnia A Devoted King: Lucy talks to Edmund after he learns of the sacrifice that Aslan made for him. This one is pretty straight-forward. I've always found Edmund to be a fascinating character and I wanted to deal with his feelings about Aslan's sacrifice and squeeze in a little sibling bonding. It is written quite a bit earlier than my other Narnia stuff. The Blurring of Memories: Soon, his memories will fade, but for now, Edmund remembers Caspian. I really didn't want to write this story. I read slash, but for some reason Narnia slash always creeped me out. It wasn't even the most original idea in the world. However, the plot bunny would not leave me alone and this has ended up being probably the my favorite fanfic that I have ever written. The hardest thing about this fic and its sequel, The Sharpness of Memory was writing in the present tense. I really like the air that this lent to the story and I think it allowed me to go more over the top, description-wise, without sounding too purple prosey because in present-tense a story seems to be more about impressions than facts. A lot of slash fics are only interested in the romance between the two characters and that is fine and I understand that, but I really like to acknowledge the difficulty of being homosexual, especially with a character like Edmund who is from 1940s England. Sometimes, I wonder if the references to the Troy legends didn't seem a little pretentious and unnecessary, especially since the later companion fic got along fine without them, but at the time it was my way of binding the story together. I had never written a fic like this before, you see, that was just a lot of spots of time. I have become such a fan of Edmund as a gay character since writing this fic; it is believable because I think he has been different enough in the past to recognize this difference in himself but at the same time he always has a lot of guilt and isn't sure that his own moral compass is accurate. The Sharpness of Memory: Companion to The Blurring of Memories. Edmund goes back to his own world, but Caspian must live the rest of his life with the pain of having two loves. The Constancy of Memory: Drinian wishes that he could go back and change those memories of himself and Caspian ever so slightly. But he will always be only the friend. SLASH. Caspian/Drinian. I've never seen anyone else write Caspian/Drinian and I just thought that the pairing had so much potential. At first, I didn't know how I could write them, but I decided that something in the style of The Blurring of Memories could work very well. I liked The Blurring of Memories and The Sharpness of Memory so much that I was reluctant to mess with them, but in the end, I decided that I could make this fic fit. I am pretty happy with the result. Drinian was an interesting challenge, because I had to half invent his character and half go from canon. Golden Age: The Golden Age was one of the happiest times in Narnian history, but even great Kings and Queens have trouble dealing with love, loss, and parenting. The main point of this fic is to show character development in the four Pevensies through looking at their romantic relationships. It always annoyed me that NONE of them were married in the books and I also have to admit that I was just having a bit of fun filling in these points. The fic sort lacks direction, but I think that I've achieved my main goals with it. I am really, really looking forward to writing more about their children because I have some really interesting ideas, there. I am also already envisioning a sequel and a prequel, though whether or not they will ever get written, I don't know. The Lack of Sleep: Insomnia can lead to some deep conversations. Edmund and Eustace discuss good, evil, guilt, human motivation, God, religion, nature, science and much more. This fic arose out of a lack of sleep. Haha, just kidding, though I did finish it up at about three o'clock in the morning. This fic was influenced by several conversations that we had in my Tolkien class. We read Lewis' Perelandra and discussed how Lewis found the medieval concept of the universe very beautiful and it actually seems to show up in his Space Trilogy. We also talked about Tolkien's Mythopoeia which is addressed to Lewis and a particular part which reminds me of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader: You look at trees and label them just so, Anyway, all this got me thinking about space and stars and how I could work it into CON. Eustace seemed the perfect person to be thinking about this sort of thing. It was also a good excuse to write on a lot of other issues that I've wanted to deal with concerning these two characters. I enjoyed the characterizations in this fic, especially Eustace who I had been just itching to write. I had to write this story immediately instead of filing it away in my list of plot bunnies because I had to get it while all the ideas were fresh in my mind. The Pevensies and the Sues: Can Peter and Edmund escape the onslaught of Mary Sues? I think that nearly everyone writes either a Mary Sue fic or a fic making fun of Mary Sues. This is my attempt at the latter. My main issue with the fic is that I absolutely insisted that it have an actual plot of its own -- and a somewhat interesting one. So many Sue parodies just seem to ramble and think that this is alright precisely because they are parodies. At the end of this fic, the Pevensies do vanquish a horrible foe. I originally envisioned a sequel based around the time of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I may still write it once Prince Caspian comes out and Caspian gets a thousand Sues of his own. Son of Miraz: When Miraz's nine year old son is discovered in a slave market in Calormen, Caspian must deal with the consequences. I always wondered what happened to Miraz's wife and his son, the baby that drives Caspian away from his uncle's rule. I'm really surprised that there aren't already a dozen fics about it as it seems a very obvious gap, but this could be a result of fanfic being so focused on the Pevensies. Anyway, I've had this plot bunny for a really long time, but only lately have I had the time to begin the fic. I thought that a fic about Miraz's son could be a good way to deal with some lingering issues pertaining to Caspian's own childhood and family and I hope to fill in lots of the gaps surrounding this section of Narnian history. The Boy: Prunaprismia must guard herself against loving her young nephew, Prince Caspian. Writing Son of Miraz made me very curious about Caspian's childhood and his relationship with his family. I wanted to play with Caspian's relationship with his aunt and why she did not like him, so I wrote this fic. Stop Calling Her: Edmund is very annoyed when Caspian keeps calling the Pevensies back into Narnia so that he can spend time with Susan ... but is it truly just annoyance or does jealousy play a role? CaspianEdmund. Complete. After the Prince Caspian movie came out, I kept seeing all these fics where Caspian was using the horn to call Susan back to Narnia because he loved her so much. They were sometimes poorly done, but I thought that the idea had real promise. I had absolutely no interest in writing a Susan/Caspian fic, but since writing The Blurring of Memories, Edmund/Caspian has become a bit of a OTP. I thought that the basic idea had a lot of potential, especially if it was kept light and funny. I also wanted to write something light and funny for this ship because it is often presented in a very, very angsty way. It was rather hard to keep the fic from becoming too angsty -- I guess angst is sort of a componant of this ship -- but hopefully, I did well. Someday: AU. Edmund and Caspian are sold into prostitution in Calormen, but Caspian knows that they will escape someday. EdmundxCaspian. This is probably the darkest thing that I've ever written. I always speculated about what might have happened to Caspian, Edmund, Lucy, Eustace, and Reepicheep if they had become actual slaves in VODT. In a lot of fics about sexual abuse, you see the characters all responding to the abuse in the same way, regardless of personality. I wanted to show how Edmund and Caspian and even some of my OCs would respond in different ways to being in this very difficult situation. Hypothetical Girl: There may be something between Eustace and Jill. Despite the fact that she is engaged to another man. Eustace/Jill. I'm not entirely satisfied with this fic as a whole to be honest, but there were some parts that I really liked so I posted it. One of the things that tends to annoy me about het in this particular fandom is that the characters often don't seem to have any sort of sexuality. I'm not saying that there has to be sex or even the suggestion of sex, but I need to be able to see that the two characters in question could someday have a sexual relationship even if that day were after marriage. Sometimes I think that fully grown characters are characterized like asexual eight-year-olds and that is a bit creepy to me. I really wanted my fic to NOT be like that. Maybe I went too far in the other direction, I'm not sure. I love Eustace/Jill and I got this idea of Jill being engaged and thought it would be fun to write. I just love writing Eustace. Twirl: Jill has developed a crush on Edmund. Eustace is not pleased. Eustace/Jill. This was my attempt at a lighter, fluffier Eustace/Jill. I can totally see Jill developing a fancy for Edmund and Eustace getting jealous. I really loved making Edmund and Eustace argue in this fic and I maybe went a little too far in that direction, making Edmund a bit too nasty, but there are also a lot of things I like about this fic. With: Being with each of them is so different. And how could Caspian ever choose? Peter/Caspian, Susan/Caspian, Edmund/Caspian, Lucy/Caspian. This fic actually came out way better than I thought it was going to. I really liked the challenge of writing Caspian paired with each one of the Pevensies, however briefly. I tried to bring out each of their personalities in a relationship in this fic. If you read to the end (this is a very short fic), then I think that I bring it back to reality pretty well. A Good Thing: As Drinian watches Rilian, his mind goes back to a certain remarkable night. Caspian/Drinian slash. Oneshot. I've always found it interesting that Rilian seemed so close to Drinian in The Silver Chair. I really liked the image I built of Drinian in The Constancy of Memory as this sort of extremely loyal friend and I wanted to build on it so I wrote this fic. Caspian/Drinian is a fun pairing for me. Xenosaga All of You: MOMO wants every part of Jr. The only problem is that this includes Albedo. JrxMOMO. AlbedoxMOMO. Oneshot. This fic basically arose from me wondering if there are times when Jr. would feel awkward about Albedo actually being a part of him. I came to the conclusion that they may clash over MOMO, particularly if the two were involved in a sexual relationship. At first, I had a lot of trouble finding the right voice for it, but when I changed it to present tense (a technique I had already used in some of my Narnia fic) the story seemed to go a lot better. I wish that the ending could feel a little less open ended and a little more like a oneshot, but other than that I'm satisfied with this fic. Alexander The Fire He Craves: Hephaistion is tired of the questions. No one questions why two men would want to share a beautiful boy. Hephaistion/Bagoas/Alexander. I have a not-so-secret obsession with Bagoas after reading Mary Renault's The Persian Boy (which has become one of my favorite books of all time). Bagoas only plays a minor role in the movie, but I've always found the tension between him and Hephaistion interesting. In this story, Hephaistion sort of figures out how to get Alexander through Bagoas which I liked. Blades Of Glory: Addicted: Chazz/Jimmy. Chazz attempts to tell his sex addicts counselor about his new addiction ... to Jimmy MacElroy. Birthday Present: Chazz has a bit of trouble picking out a birthday present for Jimmy. The Wrong Bottle: What will happen when, instead of taking his pain medication, Chazz takes something with a more arousing effect. Chazz/Jimmy. This one was originally titled Viagra. The Breakup: Chazz is determined to break up Katie and Jimmy. This one is a little more angsty. I love this movie so much. I knew almost as soon as I saw it, that I had to write fic for it. I mean, the slashy subtext alone makes it great fodder for fanfiction and throw in some Will Ferrell humor and you have a guaranteed winner. When I began to look at the fic that was available for it online, I was surprised at how good it was. There were a lot of really well written Chazz/Jimmy oneshots (though hardly any long fic), so what I really started thinking of was how I could put a twist on this pairing or make the story feel somehow original. All of my BoG fics have this goal -- to put my own, somewhat unique twist on Chazz and Jimmy's relationship. In the process of writing for this fandom, I discovered something very interesting ... Chazz Michael Michaels is the funnest character on the face of the earth to write. It really makes me want to write more and more of him. Degrassi I'm not happy with my Degrassi fics. Dreams and Realities was my first attempt at serious fanfic and it shows. It really, really shows. |
