Things I Love About FanFiction:
Important Note (Because I don't want to look like a hypocrite):
Stay with me when I tell you this people.
I've got a Twilight fanfiction in the works.
I know, I know. It's crazy. Hear me out though. For those of you who read the rest of this profile, you'll notice that I'm a big critic of some things that are key elements in Twilight. Which begs the question, why the fuck would I fool with the Twilight universe - a universe that I myself thoroughly despise in canon form? Four reasons.
1. Twilight is not Harry Potter or A Song of Ice and Fire. Most of the characters aren't distinct or solid. They're just a bunch of little idiosyncrasies. They don't feel real. Twilight is so easily interchangeable with, well, anything, that it's the perfect template for fanfiction. You can do anything with it. You aren't tethered to canon unless you want to be. Add that to the fact that it has a gigantic built-in fan-base and established universe, you get the best beginner's course ever for writing.
2. Twilight is chugged down in a lot of the muck that I dislike. What better way to point it out than to use the very same medium? It packs a much bigger punch when you dissect it that way. Is Edward an elitist asshole? Put it in a fanfiction. Is Bella a Puritan's wet dream with a purpose? Stick it in there. Does the saintly behavior of all the main characters enable readers to look down on those of us who are mere mortals? Put that shit in there.
3. Rosalie Hale. Rosalie is like this outrageous source for untapped potential. She interests me more than any other character in that series. I identify with her. I like her. I think she deserves as many rewrites as possible.
4. What can I say? I love irony, man.
PM me if you need me, just want to say hi, or have any questions. But stay cool with it, alright? I'm just all kinds of sensitive. ;)
