Hello all! Nightshade's the name! I'm an obsessive amateur writer, science geek, and a glass-half-full optimist who still likes to stay aware that said glass may spill... I'm prone to laughing fits, incomprehensible geeky rants, caring for others too much, talking with my hands so enthusiastically that those sitting nearby might accidentally get smacked in the head, and bouts of random singing, no matter the locale. I discovered my love of writing in grade school, and never quite put it down! I'm fascinated by everything life has to offer, inspired by just about anything, and writing about all these little inspirations helps keep me relatively sane amidst the stressful-ness of life in general. If I had to describe myself in one word... Unique?
When it comes to writing, I have so many different emotions. Writing started out as a way for me to... escape reality, in a way. For as long as my hands were on the keyboard and the computer was whirring away, I was someone who wasn't me, with problems and emotions that I could control as easily as a couple of keystrokes. It later evolved into a tool I used to come to terms with my sexuality, and identifying as gay, so for a long time writing was something that was very private and important to me. It took almost three years before I ever considered sharing what I wrote with others, and in came FanFiction! But i think that the greatest gift that writing has given me, is a sense of connection. With my readers, with the stories I've read and the people behind them, with every single lovely review I've ever gotten, I've discovered this miraculous little faceless community of people, which is just overwhelmingly supportive and enthusiastic. A community which has allowed me to turn what was once a coping mechanism into a way to interact, to connect, to inspire, to move, to share with so many awesome people. That's what writing means to me.
I absolutely adore Orphan Black, but I also watch (and sometimes write for) Criminal Minds, Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, and occasionally a little bit of Glee.
Favorite novel... I'll read almost anything, but my favorite book would have to be Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Favorite song: 'Where Does The Good Go' by Tegan and Sara (basically anything Tegan and Sara) and 'Landscape' by Florence The Machine
Currently reading: Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (because one book just isn't enough)
