Author has written 1 story for Rizzoli & Isles.
"Convergence" is my first work. I started it prior to the 5 summer episodes of R&I Season 3 based on 3.10 when a baby is dropped off at Maura's house. It was always intended to be multi chaptered, quite dark in places, very angsty and will involve a related series of crimes to be solved along the way.
After seeing episode 3.11 finally, I nearly gave up on this story (and did for a long while). Once I saw what the writers had done with the baby on the doorstep storyline, I just couldn't continue this piece with all of its potential angst and complexity. This was never meant to be fluff piece and I lost heart in the direction I wanted to take this story in. Lately I have reconsidered and I think that by turning the story completely over to the AU, I can still continue in earnest and delve in the way I had first imagined. The show will only ever take things so far, and I know now from reading so much terrific Rizzoli and Isles Fanfiction that the substance is in the fandom. Whatever we can't get from the show, we get here. I love this site, and I am inspired to keep going despite TNT and JTam...:)
So, back to the story - Jane and Maura will have some ups and downs as Jane gets drawn into a series of abortion related murders and becomes more involved than she normally would on a case. One of the reasons is a passionate pro choice journalist with whom Jane becomes attached and very protective as the woman becomes the final target of a pro life serial killer.
Maura, as ever, is there for Jane. But Jane becomes distant as she delves deeper into the case and becomes more involved with the targeted journalist. Maura is concerned for Jane, but feels neglected all the same. New Boston Homicide Detective Riley, eager to succeed and knowing Detective Jane Rizzoli works closely with Dr. Marua Isles, decides that spending time with Maura in the autopsy room will enhance her chances at success. As Maura becomes more bereft with Jane's distance, she begins spending more time with Riley outside the autopsy room as well.
But Jane ultimately has a killer to catch, and the distance between she and Maura will resolve with the timeline of the crime. Both are a little miffed at each other's choice of companions for a period of time, but absence - and jealousy - have a way of speeding up emotional revelations.
I have rated this story M for content. Abortion is a sensitive issue, and I recommend not reading this piece if you carry a strong pro life belief. The story will look at both sides, but ultimately the bias is towards women having the right to make their own choices.
This is a story I have been mulling over for some time now - I just never knew that Rizzoli and Isles would help me write it...:)
