Hmm, where to start…
Well, how about a name. KatKorin, but I wouldn’t be offended if you called me Kat or Korin. I’m an avid reader, and I’d like to think of myself as an adequate writer, but I’m a insecure twit, so my reluctance to post is because of my asinine qualms of unconstructive criticism. That, and I'm just a really lazy person... *sigh* In the future, I will post something, so read it if you feel that it seems interesting… I do take gratification in writing, but it’s usually original works; I actually haven’t tried my hand at fanfics. I have an account on Fictionpress.com, but I don't really post much there, either...
If I read your story, I’ll review it– that simple. I’m not going to waste any time reading something that I just don’t like, so if I enjoy it, I'm going to let you know my thoughts. I won’t be tetchy, but neither will I be excessively engrossed... I constantly try to be completely impartial in my reviews; if your story really catches me, my reviews might be a bit longer due to small inquiries (“Does [character] suspect this?”, “How did they feel about that?”, “Is [event that will happen in the story] happening any time soon?”, things like that). Once I've first read your story and reviewed, my successive reviews will perhaps be more... amiable (if your story has been updated in a recent enough time frame).
Now, a bit about myself.
I am a cynical, sardonic, and somewhat uncaring realist (borderline pessimist, but I'm not quite there yet). My gender isn't important, so take that where you will, I shan't be offended. I enjoy reading a story as dark as my personality; if it has the right type of humor, I'm all for it. I just can't turn away from a good work of comedy, but aside from that, I can be a bit picky in my reading selection.
I love a good fanfic, but I don't do particularly well with Self-Inserts and OCs–just not my cup of tea. There are exceptions, such as SilverQueen's positively marvelous work with DoS (it's truly a work of art). Though, that's pretty much it. Suspense, Action/Adventure, Humor, Tragedy, Horror, and Angst are my main focuses; I read Romance, but the plot needs something besides Drama, lest any interest I once held starts to flee. I don't have much taste for Drama, unless Angst (or anything else especially interesting) is added to zest up the plot. I'm a big fan of Shakespeare, though...
I just hate a romantic sob story of two people overcoming the obstacles of life as they realize how deeply they love each oth boring (so cliche, too!). Chop someone's head off, kill somebody's mother, bring in a slew of murders surrounding the neighborhood, break them up in the worst way possible, have some assassin controlling evil dude kidnap the girl, make a character incredibly OOC for the sake of it– something. Or don't. *shrug* It's your story, I probably just won't read it, and that doesn't affect you at all. I'm just stating my preferences here.
My prime fandom is Manga/Anime; Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Death Note, and copious others I have granted my free time to. I am, as one might say, a ‘super geek’, but I am awfully proud of that, thank you much. Yeah, I can probably quote Donnie Darko verbatim... probably... Chut up!
I also enjoy my fair share of dark humor, JtHM being one of my absolute favorite comics.
"Marry a regular girl who isn't too ugly and not too pretty. Have two children, first a girl, then a boy. Retire after my daughter is married and my son becomes a successful ninja, and spend the rest of my life playing Shōgi or Go. Then die of old age before my wife."
“Ugh, great. What's the point in setting the alarm if I'm going to wake up before it goes off? What a total waste. Now I've gotta shut it off but I don't feel like moving. But if I don't shut it off it will just keep ringing and ringing. *sigh* It makes me tired just thinking about the whole thing. Some mornings are such a drag...”
“There are… many types of monsters in this world. Monsters who will not show themselves and who cause trouble; monsters who abduct children; monsters who devour dreams; monsters who suck blood, and… monsters who always tell lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance. They are much more cunning than other monsters. They pose as humans though they have no understanding of the human heart. They eat even though they’ve never experienced hunger. They study even though they have no interest in academics. They seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such a monster, I would likely be eaten by it. Because in truth, I am that monster.”
“Learn to treasure your life because unfortunately, it can be taken away from you at any time.”
“Get me out of this thing right now, you freak!
You insolent brat! I am the great Emperor Pilaf and I will be the only one giving the orders here today! Tell me where the last dragon ball is… now.
[Shoots the bird] My magic finger says it’s somewhere in the ceiling!”
“Normally I deplore violence but in your case I’ll make an exception!”
"We think we are so great in our protests... but we just become the bitter offspring of what we oppose. We become prisoners in our own cages. We begin to speak in badly constructed melodramatic prose! OH, RAGING HORROR!! Make this stop!!"
"I detest sleep. I've better things to do. Besides, I find it frightening to awaken and be unsure of everything you remember about life not being just part of a dream. Waking means I've slept, and sleep dissolves what certainty I have left."
"The violent crimes? All perfectly natural in a society whose advances are limited to its technology. The basic behavior of the modern human is hardly different from that of its primitive ancestors. The only noticeable changes are trends. Whether in a suit, or in a loincloth, people are ignorant little thorns, cutting into one another."
"Know that, for all its troubles, the world is perfect. Flawless in its beauties and turmoils. Violence and nightmares being a natural product of humanity."
