Author has written 10 stories for Yu-Gi-Oh, Labyrinth, Golden Sun, Tomb Raider, and Until Dawn.
My name is Sarah. According to the little date thingy at the top, the last time I changed my profile was on the 6th December 2008. I'd just turned 20 and worked in retail. Having re-discovered my love for the Golden Sun series in the last couple of weeks, the time has come to dust this off and get writing again. Today is the 29th June 2015, I'm now 26 and I'm at university studying Microbiology. I'm British and am from the NW of England but now reside in the NE during term time. I became an assistant manager at my retail job but quickly grew weary and felt like I was wasting my life so I decided to go back into education. I studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics at A-level (and also a Mathematics AS-level in my first year), aced the exams and got into my first choice uni. This confirmed I'd made the right decision to leave retail as I'm much, much happier where I am now and I feel like my life has a purpose. I'm hoping to work in scientific research in the future after my degree (and hopefully a PhD - depends how well my degree goes!). I've just finished my first year, which was a mixture of incredibly challenging and a lot of fun, and am waiting on my exam results (yikes).
My summer break just started and it is a long one. Three months off! But I'm back at my old retail job part-time (not as a manager though - I'm not sorry about this. Please, for the sake of your sanity, don't become a manager in retail!) so I'm not getting bored. I have an incredibly busy year coming up as I'll be applying for various placements, running a society, moving to a new place, having fun and somehow studying at some point, too. So I'm going to relax as much as I can! And that means finally, FINALLY cracking on with some writing. I have periods of time where I'm very fixated on particular fandoms. These have included Golden Sun, Labyrinth, Wreck-It Ralph, Phoenix Wright, amongst others, and I've been dying to write something for each one for a while now. But I've either been too busy or just haven't had the motivation to sit and write. Hopefully I'm going to break out of that cycle now. Time will tell.
Heh. Below this bio, you'll see a list of fiction I wrote a good number of years ago, now. It's been so long that I don't even remember writing a lot of it. I've been reading through them again and laughing and even crying (with laughter and horror, not sorrow!). I've deleted a couple that I was really unhappy with. However. For humour and humour alone, I've left the Yu-Gi-Oh! piece up that I wrote when I was 14 back in 2003. This is NOT an example of good writing at all. Shockingly-written, awful OC, poor plot, no substance, etc. But it was my first ever fanfic so it's staying and it's good for a laugh! I've left my main Golden Sun pieces up (and would love to continue Destiny of a Princess - unfortunately I lost all of my notes for it so I'd be starting from scratch and would likely re-write what is there once I have an idea what to do with it). The Tomb Raider and Labyrinth/Tru Calling crossover pieces are both dead. The reason I'm not deleting is because each has a handful of favourites from some lovely people out there. And I know how disappointing it is to come back some time later to re-read when you remember you enjoyed them and they're gone. It happened to me when I came back and discovered a couple of my all-time favourite Golden Sun fics had gone (both by the same author who used to go by the name Umi but it changed - and I can't remember what the new one was! If anyone knows, please do get in touch as I'd love to find them again). But they're half-finished and again, not amazing.
If you're after romantic pairing fics, I'm not your person. I'm not interested in romance (I'm asexual. I don't actually consider myself aromantic however, though for the last 3 years I've not been interested in having a partner) and I don't enjoy writing about it. I DO enjoy exploring relationships between people, but not in a romantic sense. I like the dynamic between certain characters and I enjoy stories that involve these characters interacting. I seem to be drawn to antagonists and my favourite characters are usually the bad guys. As such, I do like a good bit of good-guy/bad-guy interaction between characters that I'm drawn to (eg. Alex and Jenna from GS, Wesker and Claire from Resident Evil, etc.). But I don't really enjoy romantic interactions between them because, canonically, it just wouldn't happen and I can't suspend my disbelief enough to appreciate it, even if it is well-written. These examples I've given are the kind of "pairings" I like and will be sticking to in my writing. If there are canon couples involved then I don't mind their relationship being a part of a story, but if it's a focus then I unfortunately tend to lose interest. This is absolutely nothing against the writing, it just isn't something I personally enjoy reading about.
I'm going to restart slowly with a couple of one-shots then take it from there, I think. Golden Sun is my priority right now but that changes a lot and in a few weeks I might be writing something Wreck-It Ralph-related. Who knows? Until then, enjoy what's there and I will try my utmost to bring something new, fun and engrossing to the table.
