![]() Author has written 1 story for Sailor Moon, and Ranma. Hi there! I'm Saarth'ir, and welcome to my, well let's just call it a writing laboratory. If my name is too long for you, or you don't like apostraphes for some reason, feel free to call me Saarth, or Sarth, or Saar, or whatever variation you feel comfortable with. So, let me get right to it. I'm rather new here, but I'm here to do what this website was designed for: Writing stories. "What kind of stories do you write?" you may ask. Well, currently, I'm working on a single series by the name of Soluna. Other than that, I don't really have anything else up my sleeves at this point. Before I go into what Soluna is, I'd just like to say a couple more things. Writing is something I've really only familiarized myself with through structured education. That is to say, pretty much any writing I've done over the course of my life has been for school. That means that most of my writing experience belongs to non-fiction research papers in particular. Writing fiction is something I've wanted to do for quite a long time, but never really could bring myself around to actually doing. However, even if my writing hand wasn't getting much use, my brain certainly was. A couple of story ideas turned into dozens. Some of those, I unfortunately let go of. Others, I molded or nitpicked portions of into a singular idea. That idea became Soluna. Now, the reason I'm rambling on about my short writing history is this: This story concept has become a big deal to me, and I want to see it become the best it can be. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that my lack of experience with writing fiction may leave some icky, grimy blemishes strewn throughout my stories; whether that be grammar errors, source mistakes, etc. That being said, I hope you all can enjoy my experimental attempts at writing what I hope becomes a grand universe. In my quest to learn how to write, I would be greatly appreciative of any constructive criticism and advice that any of you have, whether or not you're a fan of the universes I'm basing my story off. tl;dr for this monstrous paragraph: I'm pretty bad at writing, please give me good advice and criticism. Now, let me explain what Soluna is. Soluna is a 'project' (and that term probably gives it too much credit) that I've been crafting in my mind for years upon years. It all started with my fandom of 'Ranma 1/2', and the discovery of a particular fanfiction for said series, 'Sailor Ranko'. Unfortunately, over the years that I kept up with it, the updates for 'Sailor Ranko' began to slow, until, sadly, they ceased completely. Eventually, I started coming up with crazy ideas for a continuation to the series, originally just so that I could have some peace of mind that one of my favorite fanfictions may never be truly completed. Over time, those little ideas blossomed into a fully fledged universe as I delved deeper and deeper into the stories of both source universes. I've come up with dozens of plot ideas for the series over the last few years, and I finally decided that I should at least TRY to write a story out of them. So, that's what I'm here to do. I hope everyone enjoys my crummy attempts at fanfiction. First off, if you're not familiar with 'Sailor Ranko', I highly recommend that you check out the series that started me on this road. I don't want to spoil the premises for it, so go check it out as well as its side-stories and sequels. That being said, I do plan on writing an addendum regarding some major differences that spawned from my crazy additions, retcons, and other changes. This addendum will contain spoilers, so do keep that in mind. Another thing to mention that I feel needs to be stated is that Soluna is BASED off of 'Sailor Ranko'. While I may consider it my version of a continuation, it is merely that: my own take on it. I have not conversed with any of the authors who originally worked on 'Sailor Ranko'. Therefore, any readers should be aware that my ideas may not meet your expectations. There WILL be differences between the characters, story, etc. Please take that into consideration when reading my work. If you don't like it, I'm sorry! Special Message: 2/3/2015: Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that Chapter 10 is in the works still. It's progressing much slower than I expected it to, but it's nearing completion. Hopefully I'll be able to get it out within the next week or two. I just wanted to apologize for the long hiatus between chapters and thank everyone for sticking with me. SOMEWHAT-SPOILER*Disclaimer Addendum: The following paragraph(s) contains what could be classified as story-related spoilers. Nothing really specific, but read at your own risk. That being said, it is quite important to the identity and integrity of the story in relation to source materials, so if you're looking for things to critique, please keep the following in mind. I originally intended to have this information present as a forward in the prologue, however, I decided to remove it before posting the chapter due to not wanting to bog down the chapters with author's notes. I stupidly forgot to add this to my profile page earlier, so due to a friendly reminder: here it is. At the time that I initially began brainstorming ideas for Soluna, it was a mess. Over the long period of time that I spent refining and outlining the series, I did a lot of extra research into both Ranma and Sailor Moon to try to learn as much as I could about all the aspects of both of them. I also re-read through all of the available Sailor Ranko continuum multiple times so that I could re-identify with the series. With that being said, there are things I will make mistakes on, both in regards to Sailor Moon and Ranma. However, I have also made certain conscious decisions regarding the boundaries of both source materials canonicities' that I've chosen to use. These choices were made either because I felt that changing certain things could add more liveliness and spice to the story, or simply because I didn't feel that certain things fit/I am not knowledgeable enough on a particular subject. There is also a third reason: I'm also basing things somewhat on Sailor Ranko canon (it is a based-on continuation after all). All these things together mean that there will be lots of changes to what you may expect. Some of them will be light changes, others will be huge. Here are a few examples and a short reasoning behind why they've been chosen to be the way they are. I'll try to stick with spoiler-free examples, and bring up the more gritty subjects as they see the light. In terms of Sailor Moon canonicity, the first anime series is considered the prime canon and only up to the end of Sailor Moon S: The main reason for this is because (unless I'm mistaken) this was the case in Sailor Ranko as well. There are of course certain things that are off. I will be taking some liberties with the history of the Silver Millennium, I won't go into detail here, but I will say I'm drawing from the anime again, but also tweaking it. On the Ranma 1/2 side of things, I also have some plans to tweak the continuity. Once again, I won't go into detail here. Some people will dislike some or many of my choices for the series. I apologize in advance if these changes do sour your taste of the series as a whole. If anyone does have any particular issues or concerns about any of this, feel free to let me know and I'll try to alleviate your concerns, spoilers withholding of course. Otherwise, I hope everyone will enjoy the series and the directions it will take. I do have to leave one final warning though: I am a monster. Soluna will stretch, tear, break, and rebuild the state of canon in a completely different image. I hope that doesn't scare you away. Trying to get back on track, let's go over how Soluna fits into the 'Sailor Moon', 'Ranma 1/2', and 'Sailor Ranko' universes. The beginning of Soluna takes place a couple months after the end of 'Sailor Ranko: Thrice in a Millenium'. It should be noted that at the time of me writing this, 'Thrice' has been put on indefinite hiatus and is incomplete. I brainstormed how I thought the story would conclude, and based the beginning of Soluna after that. I may write up a summary of my version of the ending at some point, but the important parts of the story that relate to Soluna will be explained within the series itself. A little summary for the first volume: More stuff to be added soon! |
