Author has written 8 stories for Harry Potter, Frozen, Fairy Tales, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Dragonlance, Dungeons and Dragons, and Warhammer. A Mage's soul is forged in the crucible of his magic... A Warrior's soul is forged in the heat of battle... A Writer's soul is forged in... I don't know, excessive cheeto consumption? o0o I've never written anything before, mostly because the books I read were all so good, it seemed pointless to try and match them. But, after reading a number of stories on fanfiction, and seeing just how, well, crap, they can be, I've decided I'm in good company here! No matter how bad my writing may be, I'm confident that there is at least one person doing worse, which I actually find strangely comforting. I've also seen some writers whose first stories are pretty poor, but whose later ones are incredible. Gives me hope I'm not wasting my time. I just want to take a moment here, to mention a couple of things to any authors who come across this page: 1. When your story description is "sorry I'm not good at writing description", I'm not going to read the story. If you can't manage to string together a couple of sentences to summarize what your story is about, all it tells me is that you can't write. 2. What is up with the word "wont"? I have never seen it used outside fanfiction, and it's everywhere here! "As he/she/they was/were wont to do" crops up in probably 10% of the stories I find. It's so frequent, I've started using it as a flag - when I open the first chapter, I do a quick search for "wont", and if I see it I know I can expect stilted language and poor grammar. 3. Long author notes! I don't want to read 2000 words of you thanking every guest reviewer individually and by name - just send them a PM. If you simply must write commentary for your story, put it in a separate fic. That way anyone interested can skip it, and while anyone who wants to read it can. You don't have to apologize for anything, either. It's your story, write it however you want. Update it whenever you want. If we don't like it, we won't read it. You don't owe anyone anything. o0o Stories I have thought about writing: (If you want to see any of these, send me a PM and maybe I'll start it) Mary Sue Goes to Hogwarts Mary Sue, the bastard love-child of Clark Kent and Tony Stark (don't ask), goes to Hogwarts! Ridiculous, over-the-top awesomeness, showcasing everything terrible about overpowered heroes, and taking it to 11! Hopefully this will come out awesome, but I suspect it's more likely I'll over do it and all the jokes will fall flat. Worth a try though. Middle, naddle, oddle, patch; Voldemort has met his match... A story filled with ridiculous randomness, humorous homilies, and (also awesomely), amazing alliteration! :p Hijinks ensue. Not to be taken seriously. Home is where the heart is, but Love is in the Stars On assignment from the SGC, Daniel Jackson is investigating the Sunnydale crater for signs of alien involvement, and discovers a strange amulet which he returns to base with to study. Meanwhile, not realizing that Willow's spell is temporary and she and Faith are once more the only Slayers, Buffy decides to abandon the ruins of her old life, and start again somewhere new, staying with her estranged aunt... Samantha Carter. Spuffy. AU after season 7. The Rising Fire Shall Sear A Thousand Thrones Earth isn't the only place with prophecies. Turns out, Hell has them too. And when the boy-who-lived becomes the man-who-died, he finds out that not even the master of death can escape his fate... And Death Shall Have No Dominion Sequel to Rising Fire. When Harry Potter, unquestioned ruler of Hell itself, decides that one world is not enough, he invades earth - only to discover that time flows different in the underworld, and redemption is more than just a word. Will Harry conquer this world as well as the one beneath? Or will he succumb to the blandishments of the light, and repent? In Hell, there is no love, and friends are for the weak. On earth, things are a little bit different. Unnamed dune/warhammer 40k crossover Focussing on the Navigators - because the Dune method of FTL is actually surprisingly similar to warhammer; what if they crossed paths? BTW: I'll probably never get around to writing this, so... if you do, send me the link! Except Maybe Once What if it really had been Dawn that sweet came for? What if he took her to hell with him? Like Anya said, these underworld child bride deals never work out... Except maybe once. I realized as I was plotting this out, that anything specific to buffy was really limited, so I'm probably going to file off the numbers and write this as a standalone novel. I may or may not do both. City of Endless Light Crossover: Hex/Mass Effect. Kalden's experiment succeeded, scattering Raven's consciousness throughout the net. The Hexes are wiped out. Then, centuries later, humanity meets the Turians, the Asari... and the Geth. Who discover a DNA code and the pattern of a mind, imprinted on Humanities internet. Rebuilding her body, they awaken something. She calls herself Raven. The Geth call her Hope. City of Light and Shadow Crossover: Hex/Mass Effect. When Humanity discovers the Prothean ruins on Mars, their Hex scientists are able to meld with it, extracting substantial information on the Prothean culture, science, and beliefs. As a result, they are well prepared for the rest of the universe, and forewarned of the Reaper threat. The Iron Sign Crossover: GoT/Cthulhu mythos. Since reading that horrible book, Sansa has begun to see... Things. Things that should not be seen. Things that do not belong in our world of flesh and light. Things that whisper and chitter in the dark... Die Another Day At age 4, Harry died. He died again at age 8, and then twice more at 10... Who knew that "master of death" would apply retroactively? A God Am I They say that a god gains power from those who truly believe in them. Well after the events of a certain halloween, there are an awful lot of people who truly believe in one Harry Potter... Pride and Power Hyenas weren't the only animals in the zoo - there was a tiger there too. And unlike hyenas, tigers prefer to hunt alone. So when a single predator faces down a pack of scavengers, it's not the hyena spirit that possesses him. (Xander: Tiger Primal) The Xander Files YAHF: Xander goes as Harry Dresden for halloween. The next morning he wakes up to discover that although the memories have faded, it turns out that a spirit of intellect can't actually be moved - only copied. And copies made by a spell, don't fade when the spell ends. Too bad the only skull available to hold it is in Xanders head, but hey, at least they have a similar sense of humor. Tinker Taylor Soldier Saviour Taylor triggers with the power to control not insects, but energy differentials. Disguising herself as a tinker, she sets forth to be a Hero. Unfortunately, this is Worm, and heroes are not wanted here... Tom of the Minwanabi A self-insert awakes inside the mind of Desio at the moment of his fathers death. As one of the Five Greats, he has tremendous power, and is determined to drag Kelewan kicking and screaming into modernity. In his way? A world without metal, a society of evil magicians, and of course that pesky blood feud. o0o Active Story notes: Raistlin Majere and the Philosophers Stone Harry Potter is replaced by Raistlin Majere from the Dragonlance saga. If you haven't read dragonlance, don't worry about it; just think of it as smart!dark!harry with some references you won't get (ie. remember that time when I...). All the other characters are the same as they were in canon, and the story itself will follow canon pretty closely to begin with, and then start splitting off as time goes by - the main point of divergence is Chapter 5, although the pace really picks up around chapter 11. Expect that by Harry's third year, it will be completely of the map. This story is not dead! I promise, I will continue writing it. Admittedly, there seems to be a few months between chapters... but the next chapter is coming! Eventually. One day. The Character Sheet Of Destiny I actually have no idea where this is going, but don't expect frequent updates - turns out writing something funny is hard! Mortal Coil, Unwound Poe-inspired awesomeness. This one is really written more because I enjoy writing it, than because I expect anyone to enjoy reading it; I suspect people will not share my taste for wordplay. The story itself will be a semi-serious drama/adventure, but I'm hoping my style of writing can push it more towards humor. This one has actually rather got away from me, and I'm not sure if I'm actually going to continue it or not. BlueBeard This is an interesting story, particularly for being so short. I don't want to give away the "twist" to anyone who hasn't read it, but... Let's just say I expect it will be widely hated, but I'm afraid some people will actually like it. Inspired by Twilight, in theme if not in content. There are a couple of ways you could interpret it, so please consider it as both a social and literary critique, as well as just a story. Per Tyrannis, Ad Salutarem Harry becomes the overmind of a Tyranid swarm. The wizards - light and dark - will attempt to destroy him as soon as the swarm is discovered, forcing harry to defend himself from the people he is trying to save. Meanwhile, does merging with a horde of intergalactic monstrosities make you any less human? Yes, yes it does. Harry is torn between the comforting embrace of the swarm, and his human relationships - in the end, which will win? Spoiler: There will be a sequel, which it is entirely possible that I will write in parallel... we shall see. Prospective sequel titles: The Tyrant Effect, Per Tyrannis, Ad Astra, Tyrant Gate, Tyrant Wars, The Tyrant Slayer, A Game of Tyrants, The Tyrant Files Current story status: Per Tyrannis has been plotted out now - looks like it will come out at about 75k words. Next chapter: This year :p. Raistlin has also been partially plotted. I'm still mostly winging it, but looks like it's going to take about 5 books to get through the whole thing, but they're going to be fairly short (prob. around 60k words each). Prospective titles:
Which, I would REALLY appreciate some feedback on - is the "Raistlin Majere and the ..." format overdoing things? Also, King of Serpents will not feature the basilisk, except possibly as background; instead it refers to an important scene of slytherin backstabbing, as the snakes called "king" eat other snakes - is that too subtle? |
