Author has written 7 stories for Left 4 Dead, and Far Cry.
As my rather unimaginative screen name suggests, I am a big fan of the characters Zoey and Ellis of the Left 4 Dead games. And not just that, I ship them, hard. I still do even though Left 4 Dead was released all the way back in 2008. For some reason, the games and particularly these two characters captured and have held my attention. I do love other games too, like Far Cry 3, but not to the same extent as Left 4 Dead.
I can understand those who would say that Zoey and Ellis are two characters that are so different, that their union would make no sense at all. She is a smart, tough young woman with dreams of travelling the world in her future, being a movie director or an archaeologist. And he is a somewhat still childish young man seemingly more than content to spend most of his life in or around Savannah with his best buddies, working as a mechanic.
But for both of them, under their exteriors, I find deeper characters. Her back story is somewhat tragic, being an only child, her parents increasingly argueing about her future, her dreaming to escape what she sees as a miserable future. Games and movies are her escape valve. And though he lived under the wings of his mother, Zoey awakes something in him that I believe was always there. Before her, all he did was hanging out with his friends, and generally being careless and content, with few ambitions beyond enjoying himself.
Somehow, during the tragedy that is the zombie apocalypse, they find eachother. I think that in a strange sense, they fit together perfectly, despite almost being polar opposites. And tragedies do always seem to bring unlikely matches together.
When I wrote 'Destinies entwined' I had only one ambition at the start of it, I wanted them to get married and be together. No more than that. Somehow, what started out as a small ambition to write four, maybe five chapters, became a dozen chapters, and a few more (short) stories since.
The main idea about writing these stories I have is to enjoy myself doing it. And if in the process some other people like my stories as well, that is something I really appreciate!
Yours truly, a Left 4 Dead/Zoey-Ellis fanboy.
