Hey all! You know all those stereotypes about geeks being antisocial introverts who spend all day inside tending to their geeky obsessions? And you know how there are people who pretend those people don't exist; who purport that geeks are perfectly well adjusted individuals? Well guess what, they do exist! Case in point: me!!!! We don't do much socializing so those denouncers would never know we even exist, even as embedded into the geek community as they claim to be. It's just that now that geek franchises (like Marvel) and geek activities (like videogames) have become such bankable industries, douches in marketing have tried to undercut the true fans of this crap to expand their commercial appeal. But don't believe their lies; legit geeks are out there and it's a hard knock life for us. Instead of kisses, we get pokes.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to gripe (but I am a writer, so you can't really blame me), I'll get back on topic now. I am a true blue supergeek who's always found more acceptance and comfort when indulging in movies, books, TV shows, and videogames in my own company than I've ever found amongst other people. My social anxieties and overall weirdness has prevented me from ever having very many friends and almost entirely from being employed. All I do is tip-tap on my computer and I've never made a dime from it. I'm looking to change that. I've been writing a book for the past four years and I'm near completion (whether it will be published or not is completely unknown). It's non-fiction, and even though I'm perfectly fine writing non-fiction, it gets a bit overwhelming from time to time. And sometimes I like to mix things up with a little short fiction; it's refreshing. Writing for this site is quite progressive for me, because outside of stuff I've written for school, hardly anyone else has read my work. So I'm real anxious to know what other users will think of it.
Just so you know, the rate at which I'm able to put out work will be extremely slow, as I'm concurrently working on my book and I take a very long time pondering and developing my stories. I'm happy to give feedback and advice to any material offered to me (whether it be a fanfic story or something else), just message me. Bye for now and don't forget to go out and give your local supergeek/cave dwelling hermit a hug for support and comfort. They need it more than you could possibly imagine. Excelsior! -M. Darko
