I was a NCIS fan for years but because of the directions of those who actually owned the show which is not me, I have found a new home with world of Fifty Shades and I love being here. I believe in true love, hope, and honesty. Cheating of any kind emotional or physical is a Hard limit for me. I believe that everyone who publishes is worthy of the respect of the reader and should not be abused because we do not like their story...just stop reading and move on. I have left several stories because of direction that the writer took so rather that keep reading something that hurt too much I just move on.
When I first started reviewing I would share my emotions and disappointments about the story until I realized that I am an invited guest to their story so I should be a good guest and have tried to be that type of reader and reviewer since. I have hopefully become a more mature reviewer. There are a small group of writers who's primary desire is to incite the reader by having the Characters doing some of the worst things that they can imagine to generate a large volume of reviews which are mostly negative. I have learned that they do not care, never will care, and they get off on destroying the Characters so I Ignore them completely. I do not punish myself with those stories. Then there is the writer that promise in the beginning of a story that they will not have a character go down a certain path and then in the middle of the story do the very thing they promised not to do then get angry and upset when you point it out and refuse to admit what they did and try to justify their actions by calling it a plot twist.
So to those of you who think the reader takes the story line to serious when you kill babies, believe that a pedophile is a good person, or have children and women beaten and raped, well to some of us it the real life we have lived. And to those that believe being a virgin is not realistic in this day and time you are the one that fails to understand your audience.
Hard Limits: Cheating, Rape especially of a child, Murder by or to Ana or Christian, abortions, graphic BDSM abuse, graphic child abuse, Elena Lincoln, Ana involved/love with anyone but Christian, Christian involved/love with anyone but Ana, especially going from one Brother to the other is plain nasty and trashy
New Hard Limit: Using babies as a plot line having them stolen from hospital or reported dead when they have been kidnapped. These writers do not understand the need for a baby to bond with its mother when they are born and the suffering a mother who just gave birth to find your child gone.
Yes I have had to deal with abuse and rape in real life and you never look at the world the same again.Perhaps the writer simply doesn't understand what he's writing about. Perhaps he is applying his own Alternate Character Interpretation to them (of which, both Possession Sue, Ho Yay, Foe Yay, and Die for Our Ship contributes towards). Perhaps he's just writing a Transplanted Character Fic. Regardless, it's usually frowned upon to post stuff not labeled as such, with the term becoming quite negative if it gets applied to a story by other people. If the Fan Fic is of the 10%, this is likely because something in the story's backstory or plotline made them act this way.
Generally viewed as a very negative trait (if a fanfic gets tagged as "OOC", it's usually not a good sign, though writers will often be honest enough to slap the tag on themselves up front).
Compare Character Derailment, which is this applied to canon, and O.O.C. Is Serious Business in situations where characters are noted as acting out of the ordinary in particularly stressful circumstances. See also Out-of-Character Moment. Draco in Leather Pants, Ron the Death Eater and Wimpification can be considered subtropes.
Not to be confused with In and Out of Character. In Role Playing Games, it is sometimes necessary to make a distinction between when a player is In Character and Out Of Character, to know if the person is speaking as the character or as the player. A player who uses Out of Character information (such as the presence of goblins in a room ahead) to make an in-character choice is said to be MetaGaming, which most dungeon-masters severely frown upon.
