Books are well written, or badly written. That is all." - Oscar Wilde (in his preface from The Picture of Dorian Gray) "When I die, I will be greeted at the gates of hell by a thin, hyperactive Italian man, who will say to me, 'I'm a fish, gloog, gloog." - Kyle Kalgreen (aka Oancitizen), Brows Held High (from his review of Roberto Benigni's Pinocchio). "Yeah, but Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like … fucking Shaft!" - Tim (Simon Pegg), Spaced "We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write 'fuck' on their airplanes because it's obscene!" - Colonel Walter E. Kurtz (Marlon Brando), Apocalypse Now "You're fucked from birth. The Spanish got bullfighting. The French got cheese. And the Irish have alcoholism." - Billy (Sam Rockwell), Seven Psychopaths "So here's a thought for the day for you: Is a shooter game about the horrors of war, an inherently hypocritical thing? Can the game's plot really take a stance on the hideous things man does to his fellow man is beyond hollow, guilt filled, rationalization when with its very next breath is goes *BING* and gives us the Emotionally Dead achievement. Does it inherently cheapen the message to coincide it with exciting shooty action? Could a video game reasonably make us feel guilty for things it told us to do? Could a video game use shooty gameplay to induce emotions other than visceral joy or will the intended message inevitably be overlooked by an audience who will probably just be trying to have fun shooting things? Sorry, is this getting to contemplative early on? Here are some farty noises..." - Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, Zero Punctuation (in his review of Spec Ops: The Line) "Only in anime would you see King Arthur, Medea, Gilgamesh, Hercules, Cu Chulainn, Medusa, and a warrior from the future compete in a gameshow hosted by a psychotic priest and a homunculus for the chance to win the Holy Grail, which is also a magical cat that can turn into a rocket ship." - A youtube comment on the first episode of Carnival Phantasm. "It's not good to trick Jesus, evil Hitler!" - Kamina, Gurren Jesus "I am the White Void. I am the Cold Steel. I am the Just Sword. With blade in hand shall I reap the sins of this world, and cleanse it in the fires of destruction. I am Hakumen! The end has come!" - Hakumen, Blazblue Hell, I'll kill a man in a fair fight, or if I think he's going to start a fair fight… or if he bothers me, or if there's a woman… or if I'm gettin' paid. Mostly only when I'm gettin' paid. But eating people alive, when does that get fun?" - Jayne Cobb (Adam Baldwin), Serenity "A strong man doesn't need to read the future. He makes his own." - Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid. "Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling… makes no difference. The degree is arbitrary. The definition's blurred. If I'm to choose between one evil and another… I'd rather not choose at all." - Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. "Let me give you some advice, bastard. Never forgot what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you." - Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Game of Thrones "The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die." - Lord Eddard "Ned" Stark, A Game of Thrones "What is honor compared to a woman's love? What is duty against the feel of a newborn son in your arms… or the memory of a brother's smile? Wind and words. Wind and words. We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy." - Maester Aemon Targaryen, A Game of Thrones "I have never advocated war except as means of peace, so seek peace, but prepare for war. Because war… War never changes. War is like winter and winter is coming." - Ulysses S. Grant Fan Art: Naruto and Saber (for Fate/Zero Shinobi): http:///art/Naruto-and-Saber-545388542 Story Challenges (please send me a PM if you are interested): Borderlands/Fallout 3: Handsome Jack has been killed by the Vault Hunters, with his plans in ruins and the Warrior, the beast he had summoned from the Vault, having been vanquished. However, Jack now finds himself in a new world called the Capital Wasteland. The remains of a once-proud civilization, where the survivors eke out their living, being plagued by the Raiders, Super-mutants, Talon Company mercs, and the usual scum. And he now finds himself partnered with some plucky young kid from a Vault, who's looking for their dad. This is all just a perfect place for him to amass power. Rules of the challenge is that Handsome Jack goes through a character arc in which he becomes more in-line to the Jack we see in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. He's still an awful human being, but just slightly less so. He must also start to gather and recreate his own army of Wasteland robots, and must eventually recreate his arm cannons from The Pre-Sequel. As for the Lone Wanderer, you are free to make him or her however you want to. |
