Life...the miracle, and the great mystery...and also a huge pain in my @ss
Itonami: What did I do?
Sdrive: Nothing. Not you.
Dear loyal readers,
No, just kidding. Though I do have something I need to bring to your attention. Over the past...ummmm...WOW!!! Almost a YEAR to the DAY!!!! Like, 6 more days or so and It will have OFFICIALLY been a YEAR since I updated Ra Yellow, Hot Damn! Wow, alright. Um, yeah, sorry about that?
Anyway, during the past...still can't get over it, year that I've been away, I've been going through quite a lot. I've obtained my Associate's degree from college, and I've gone through a lot of changes, physical and mental. Unfortunetly, Yu-Gi-Oh! just doesn't excite me as much as it use to. I've been (GREATLY) corrupted by the metagame, by which I can't really write duels that don't involve metagame decks, otherwise they seem fake. I know that duels and win conditions in the anime and in fanfics are supposed to be made by using the forumula, "Opponent draws best opening hand, makes best opening plays, has control during most of duel. Hero starts off slow but begins to get momentum, possibly gets a head before opponent overwhelms again, and then hero obtains key or realizes weakness in opponent's strategy and overcomes it defying all odds. Lather, Rinse, Repeat next chapter." Issue being is I know it doesn't work like that anymore, and a lot of decks in the meta use a bunch of different cards from different types, like a DAD deck has Elemental Hero Stratos, Destiny Hero Malicious, possibly LADD, and who knows whatelse? It makes it hard for me, (who's been so corrupted) to write duels in which they don't have an out like that.
With that being a big portion, but also probably one of the smaller portions, I've been focused on my own original works as of lately. I've got 44 pages of my first in a series of novels done, along with other projects I've messed with, plus work, and some video games I enjoy, (Birth By Sleep baby!) Also a Pokemon Fanfic I bounce back and forth with. To say the least, Ra Yellow just isn't a high ranking priority anymore.
HOWEVER, I DID promise I would at least finish RY, so, with the graces of all of you, I would like to ask this. May I basically cut out Duels from the story? The big time duels, (thinks like Kokuro VS Bad Guy, Kokuro VS Hikari/Kazuki (no not at the same time lol) and against other main characters that might have an actual importance to the plot) will still be in effect. New comers that actually matter will get their debute duel, and also the next couple of chapters I DO actually have written, (just not updated for various reasons of importance and non importance, but mostly importance) will get posted as is. I'm not saying I'm going to completly cut out duels, but this tournament I had planned that I had full intentions originally of going through with seems just SO bothersome now that if I have to come up with brand new duels and decks and everything for all these random one shot characters that won't matter in the long run. I can promise that it will still be an exciting ride, (even without constant duels) and the duels that do make it in, (with the exception of maybe one or two) will still be epic and will probably make up for it. Personally, I believe that the duels that actually matter, or that have big signficance, are worth the time it would take to try to make them epic rather than the multiple kind of ok duels that will all turn out crappy in the end, (and in turn may affect the over all awesomeness of the actual duels that are worth the attention.)
I can say this right up front, the duels that are features from here on out will probably contain more original cards than cards from the actual game. (While I still play I've become VERY disatatched from the new sets and don't know what half of the new things do.) I feel that certain new original cards will make the duels not only more interesting, but will also allow for more epic duels, since no one (cept me) will know exactly how Kokuro can pull off a wining hand. Also, I have a lot of the original cards planned out a head of time so it won't be like I created a brand new card for one specific duel I wrote myself into a corner with, (though it may seem like that sometimes haha).
I hope you all support me in this decision, seeing as how I'm leaving it to you. I want to go through all the plot lines I have planned, but with the issue of making up duels, I might NEVER finish writing. I truely feel this is the most acceptable choice, and I hope you will all enjoy the story if I go through with it. The chapter that starts this will have it mentioned up front. Please let me know via PM. Thank you for your time.
