Game of Thrones: The Prince This is a collection of chapters teasers for stories in the making or not published. Most are, of course, still in the building and brainstorming stage. If you have any idea or concept for them feel free to PM me. My view on harem story: The first part on semi-serious harem story Yes, mass harem stories are fun, but you can't appreciate them as well as others which have proper romance. It can be done IF You do it in the right world. For example: it is easier to sold in a manga/anime settings than in a modern tv show (NCIS or Stargate for example). In Naruto there are some reasons why it can be accepted (CRA, even if a fandom made thing is a sound way to make it happens for example). In the Harry Potter universe it would require a longer storyline and character development. The characters stay in their role. Just to remain at the Naruto franchise. Sakura being in love with Sasuke and the next moment begging to have Naruto baby is... I think you all understand what I'm talking about. Most of the time the harem setting is just ridiculous. Fun to read but ridiculous when you think about it. Serious: In a serious story it makes tens of thousands words just to make two characters' romance believable. To make it work with more people it will require that many word added to it between the characters. If we add it up it become obvious that 4-5 people is the max if you don't want to reach 200.000 word and still progress with the story. On godlike and overpowered main character: They are fun, but after a while they become so illogical that you can't believe it. For example: you have Naruto/Harry (they are the most popular after all) that could defeat the kages/Akatsuki or Voldemort/Dumbledore at the age of ten. And they don't do it because... the story would be only five or six chapter long and boring. Other issue, if the main character becomes so strong to face the overpowered antagonist that his allies are so weak compared him that you have to facepalm. (see: Naruto, Bleach and Fairy Tail). In the manga/anime series there is a timeshift at this point so the others can "level up". The only big shounen manga which didn't do that and the power ratings stayed relative ok is One Piece. Where the main characters had to get stronger or get slaughtered in the New World. I don't have problem with godlike characters if the author can still make the story interesting. Which means that I don't have problem with a godlike character, as long as they trained for it or old enough to have that kind of power and there are some other characters on par with them. Bashing: I don't do it. Period. It's opposite of Mary Sue, which is just as bad when you think about it. Ok, so in not so few words: bashing is the complete opposite of what a writer should do in a serious fic. If it's crack/humor than it's good. Have fun with that and got a good laugh at it! But when the author seriously think that in a story which will be 100.000 words and you can see that one of the main character will bashed every turn it just don't work. Ok, now you can ask. What about a minor character? That's pretty okay if the minor character isn't appear every chapter just to have someone to pick on (or several minor character fulfilling the same role). For example: Usopp from One Piece isn't bashed. Yes, he is weak, afraid most of the times, liar etc. But he is perhaps the most creative of the crew and a sharpshooter with few equals and a wide variety of shoots. Or even better would be Scott in the Third Path to the Future (as it is a fanfic). He has some really bad characteristic and some good, but still stay relative close to the original (well, for the X-men Evolution) and he matures in it. He doesn't remain tha same bashable person he was at the beginning. He grew up, which is pretty much what should happen. |
