I find so many stories that intrigue me for plenty of reasons; enough, in fact, to inspire me to write my own. Then, I start thinking about what I could possibly write about, whether it's about a game, anime, show, etc. etc. and maybe say "hey this could work!". I start the story and continue writing until I revise, which I go "... What the heck was I thinking of...?". So I start browsing for stories involving my interest, and find many excellent and favorable ones. However, I often come across stories that have not been finished yet, mainly due to the author not being able to find any time or simply losing inspiration. When I come across stories such as these, I often view their profiles to see whether or not they're aware they've stopped. At first, it was simply because I could not wait for them to update again. It was selfish in an innocent way, since I enjoyed their story so much. But then I realized that the authors want to continue, but they simply don't have the ability to do so. It's even worse when there are people who nearly demand that the author updates. These people aren't bad for that since they're as much fans as the next person, but I've seen this negatively affect authors countless times. People who want updates need to inspire the authors to continue, not dissuade them.
This is entirely my opinion, but I do hope it helps people realize that sometimes authors want to continue a story as much as their followers, but they need time, inspiration, and their fans to acknowledge that patience is a virtue. It's almost like cooking; you can't make a meal without preparation, ingredients, and people who are going to eat to know that food will eventually come.
