Hi everyone! I'm ArbitraryRenaissance, but you can call me Arby for short. I'm a lanky mathematician who also happens to really enjoy writing. I've been writing fanfiction for around nine years now, which makes me a massive loser nerd boy who's probably more proud of himself than he deserves. But I'm also irrationally dedicated to my writing projects, so I'm likely to continue writing fanfiction for years to come.

I'm currently super obsessed with the Wings of Fire fandom. I only have two stories published right now, but I have multiple other projects in the works that I'm eager to share with you soon.

About my profile picture

If you happen to be curious about what my profile picture means, that's my personal symbol that I made myself when I was 13 and going through my "I'm such a smart and deep person" phase. Despite the fact that I don't like that version of myself all that much, I do like the symbol that he made, and still continue to wear it proudly as my profile picture on all of my ArbitraryRenaissance accounts. The red semicircle represents knowledge: the acquisition of new ideas, new facts, and new perspectives. The blue diamond represents wisdom: the tool one uses to apply their knowledge and make the right choices and come to the right conclusions. And the orange heart represents empathy: the understanding of others and willingness to feel what they feel. These are three tenets that I always strive to meet in myself; but moreover, they are three tenets that fuel my creativity. Creativity is represented as the purple C surrounding the three smaller symbols. It is my outer shell, and what I believe to be one of the most outwardly prominent aspects of my character. I seek to internalize the tenets of of knowledge, wisdom, and empathy, and I seek to externalize my creativity when it is shaped by these three things.

About my stories

Brighter Paths (Wings of Fire): Currently my main story. This is a Wings of Fire longfic. It's one of the many "what if?" type stories, which are overdone and cliché, but I love them anyway. It follows Clearsight as she journeys through multiple timelines in search for one with a happy ending. She'll undergo a long and arduous struggle, she'll face deep losses, she'll achieve great victories, and she'll change. I incorporate a fair bit of philosophy and thematic intonation into this story, but if I'm being completely honest, a lot of it is a certain cathartic wish-fulfillment on my end. I simply wanted to see what other futures Clearsight had in store for her. I wanted to see what she could have done to reach those brighter futures that she saw, and how long those brighter futures could last.
Current Status: Active.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Aura of Storms (Pokémon): This was my main story for the first five years of my fanfiction writing career. It loosely has the structure of the other Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, and originated from a hallucination I got from a 102 degree fever in February of 2013. I started this story in March 2013 with the intention of it being a 30 chapter story, but I quickly got the impression that it was going to end up being closer to 50. It ended up with 49 plus a prologue and an epilogue, so my second impression turned out to be approximately right. This was my first go at fanfiction, and I started writing it when I was pretty young. I did go back to clean some stuff up a bit, but you shouldn't expect very much out of this fanfic, even if you are into PMD. I'm still proud of this story since it's 380,000 words long, but I think my more recent works are much better in terms of quality. I have a personal commentary for each of the chapters that I write right after releasing them; you can find them on my deviantART account.
Current Status: Complete.

The Worst Nightmare (Zootopia): This was a quick one-shotter that I wrote after a bout of inspiration that I had after seeing the movie Zootopia. It was an incredible film, but there was one theme that I felt could have been explored more: primitive instincts. I simply wrote the piece to raise the questions that the movie itself was too busy to address.
Current Status: Complete.

The Loss of Light (Skylanders Academy): I was driven to write this under similar circumstances that drove me to write The Worst Nightmare. It's a one-shotter that I made after watching Skylanders Academy, a show that I found incredibly funny and filled with likable and memorable characters. I wanted to create an introspective story that delved into Spyro's mind as his soul got twisted and mangled by supernatural forces. Contains season two ending spoilers.
Current Status: Complete.

Peace of Mind (Pokémon): This is a short story series that takes place in the Eon Fable universe from ScytheRider's fanfiction of the same name. This story follows a Meowstic named Mayra. She's in the legal department, working as a travelling judge. Each chapter is its own standalone story, and documents different significant parts of Mayra's complicated life.
Current Status: Idea for chapter 3 has been conceived, but writing has not started yet.

An Honest Conversation (Wings of Fire): A Wings of Fire story, meant to replace chapters 28 and 29 in book 10, which is the penultimate scene in the second arc of the saga. I didn't start out writing it with the intention of "fixing" the ending, but I did end up with an alternate conclusion to the Darkstalker arc that I feel is better than what the original ending offered. I wrote this on a whim, over the course of about a week, just doped up on writing adrenaline. It appears that most of my one-shotters are written that way.
