Author has written 6 stories for Total Drama series, and Teen Titans.
Hello everybody, my name's Tallstar, and I am a young author with a love of fanfiction, skateboarding, video games, and most importantly, the amazing band known as Blink-182. I also change my profile a lot when I'm bored, so get used to it. You can PM me if you want, though I don't see why, as my stories are about as entertaining as The Last Airbender movie (M. Night Shyamalan... stop. Just stop.), but I'd be happy to answer anybody's questions (again, I don't see why you'd need to ask ME questions).
Name: This is addressed later on, but you can just call me Sydney. Or Tallstar. Whatever works.
Age: 12. Ya, ya, I know, privacy and whatever, but come on--just saying that I'm twelve is not exactly telling my life story. Millions of English-speaking twelve year-olds. I'm not too worried about my situation.
Hobbies: Many, many, many. Hockey, skateboarding, drawing, reading, writing, researching, saxophone, ob song-writing, basketball (God, it is annoying to type this with one hand! I have to use my nose if I want to press the shift button!) etcetera.
Personality: I get more in-depth later on in my profile, but I'll give you the quick version here. Sarcastic, ill-tempered, arrogant, deceitful, manipulative, lazy, irresponsible, intelligent, humorous, non grudge-holding, logical, compassionate (to friends and family ONLY), tree-hugging, opinionated, brave
Physical Appearance: I have brown hair and brown eyes, am not pink-, purple-, green-, brown-, black-, white-, blue-, yellow-, orange-, (etcetera) skinned, and am underweight and under average height for my age. I'll leave it at that.
Things I believe are wrong with the world: State tests, reality TV, BAD GRAMMAR, Westboro Baptist Church, trolls, people who name their kid something stupid like North or Blue Ivy, people who believe they're as amazing as the Mythical Sky Daddy above just for the ability to sing a few lyrics (Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Kanye west... you know who I'm talking about!), Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, plagiarism, HOMOPHOBIA, Limp Bizkit
Things that make life worth living: Family, friends, skateboarding, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, Warriors, books, cartoons, Wang Fire, badass cartoon characters (Sokka, Toph, Suki, Beast Boy, Mako, Raven, Azula, Slade, Jinx, Noah, Harold, Ty Lee, Nikki Wong, Mabel Pines... GAH! SO MANY BADASSES!), manga, ice hockey, NHL, NHL players, video games, getting my opinions heard, freedom of speech, cats, dogs, Greek mythology...
Aspirations: I would like to become an author, with a novel concept in the works (I'm still working on the concept because I don't want to start writing the actual chapters until I think I'm a proficient writer, which, at this point, I'm the exact opposite of). I'd also be interested in becoming a video game developer or a biologist.
Some Things About Me
First off, I do not write yaoi or yuri unless it has been clarified in the main plot that those two characters are homo/bi/pansexual. I do not have anything against it, I just like to keep characters in character. Really, it would be weird if I was against it, as my best friend is bisexual and I'm one of the people that understands that other people's sexual orientation does not effect your own life in one way or another. Enough of the serious stuff, though.
I am a sneakerhead (though quite new at the business) and a self-proclaimed tomboy. I despise reality TV (which is why I like Total Drama, as it's a parody of shows like Survivor, etc.) and "teeny pop", and think that forcing somebody to listen to Ke$ha, One Direction, Li'l Wayne, Future and Justin Bieber for an hour should be illegal. My preferred music genres are underground rap, emo rock (I'm not emo, I just happen to like the music), alt rock, and metal, though I do enjoy dubstep from time to time. I am a "journalist" for my school newspaper, and write about topics such as GMOs in food, double standards, and poaching (a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect a twelve year-old to have enough knowledge of to write a full column on it), and through this journalism I found a love for writing. While I'm not quite good at writing fanfiction yet, I do hope to get better, and I appreciate all those kind reviews I've gotten on my stories. Comedic, friendly stories have always been my style, as I always manage to incorporate my own sarcastic flair into it, which is also why I have a difficult time writing dramatic or serious events, as it's just not my forte, but I think I manage alright.
My interests (besides writing) include ice hockey, skateboarding, paintball, reading, drawing comics and research. Yes, I enjoy doing research. I don't know why, there's just something interesting about learning about the engine of a 1960 Thunderbird or the anatomy of the Ethiopian Wolf or some other random thing like that. Ice hockey has always been the primary sport in my life due to many, many factors. First off, the feeling of simply gliding along the ice, feeling the frosty wind on your cheeks, is divine... and I just used the word "divine". Really. I-urgh, come on, me! Also it's just such a fast-paced sport that once you start, you can't stop. You want to hop on to that next shift. You want to skate up that ice, puck on stick. You want to get that rush of adrenaline as you chase the opposing team's center down the ice. It's perfect. Skateboarding? I dunno, I just pulled out an old skateboard I found in the garage, grabbed a helmet, hopped on and, after many fails, falls, and injuries, got the hang of it... two weeks ago. That's besides the point, though. Paintball was something I thought I would just try once and be over with. Turns out it was really fun and I was hooked. Reading is self-explanatory, and as for the drawing... again, I don't know. I just tried my hand at some Avatar comics, and they turned out pretty well.
Anyways, I normally hate to admit I'm wrong, am more goal-oriented than most middle-schoolers, and am pretty street smart, if I do say so myself. I'm not a big fan of large parties, and would always prefer a night with two or three friends watching a Big Bang Theory marathon over a gigantic shindig with loud music and obnoxious party-goers. Don't get me wrong, though--I'm not shy. I'm the exact opposite of shy. I'll easily go up to someone, ask if they want to sit with me and my friends at lunch, without hesitating, or ask my crush out with ease. The risk of being embarrassed never really bothered me, nor did other's judgement of me. Whenever someone calls me out for being a nerd or a geek, I just take in stride and think about how, in thirty years, I might be the electronics mogul revolutionizing the next era of technology and they might be McDonald's newest worker.
And before you ask, yes, I am EXTREMELY arrogant.
At least I acknowledge that, though. I know what my faults are, know what my strengths are, and I never forget that I have both of them.
Now about some other stuff. I'm probably the only Avatar fangirl in the world that doesn't like Zuko. His backstory is interesting, his concept is amazing, but... I just can't like him. He's like Trent from TDI or Caitlin from 6teen. As much as I want to be able to like them, I just... can't. Plus, Toph, Suki, Sokka, Ty Lee, and most importantly Azula are way more badass in my book. I mean, Toph is a little blind twelve year-old that took down several huge, muscular men in about thirty seconds for each and invented metalbending, Suki is a Kyoshi Warrior that can run up three stories on the side of a building while taking down trained prison guards as if it's no big deal, Sokka... well, he's Sokka, so that automatically ranks him high in my books, Ty Lee took down an entire ARMY of earthbenders and temporarily paralyzed them as if that was something she did for fun every saturday, and Azula... Again, she's Azula. She's manipulative, arrogant, sociopathic, can create lightning and blue fire, and dodged Aang's and Toph's attacks during the eclipse without her bending like a boss.
If Tallstar was an actual person, he'd be my role model... Which is odd, because I'm impulsive, headstrong, and violent, while he's calm, wise, and the cat version of a pacifist, so we're like yin and yang. However, he's still awesome. A close favorite would be Russetfur, for many reasons, then Yellowfang, Cinderpelt, Stormfur, Brightheart, Cloudtail... the list goes on.
I like Cloudtail and Mothwing for deeper reasons show. It was smart how the Hunters put them in there almost as a message, to show that you don't have to have the same beliefs to live peacefully, and that being intolerant of what others believe will get you nowhere. Good job, Erin... err, Erins.
I just got into the manga scene, reading some Ouran High School Host Club, Bleach, and Full-Metal Alchemist, and am addicted to it! Seriously, why didn't I read these things before? They are GENIUS! Seriously!
Now, besides me being a nerd, I'm also a jock/skater girl/hardcore gamer, which is weird, but I can't help it if ice hockey is an awesome sport or skateboarding is so fun or that Bioshock, Mortal Kombat, GTA and Battletoads are all so addicting. I can't help it. It's a problem. I enjoy watching YouTube LPer's, namely Chuggaaconroy, SuperJeenius, Lucahjin, AttackingTucans (Yeah, a little twelve year-old girl should probably not be watching those last two... then again, I have older teenage siblings who talk a lot around me, so it doesn't make that much of a difference) and ProtonJon, who are pretty much all connected in the LP family. Maybe next year I'll get a capture card for my DS and start recording some Pokemon and putting up a link to my YouTube channel... ya never know!
I'm a vegetarian and a Nutrition Nazi (is that a thing?), so besides Mountain Dew, chocolate and the occasional pack of Fun Dip I manage to only eat organic, GMO-free foods. All the fruit, vegetables and grain I eat are naturally grown on my uncle's farm, simply because GMO's and pesticides don't quite do it for me. Yes, I am a MAJOR tree-hugger and aspire to be an environmentalist and biologist when I grow up. I would also like to take a career in journalism, my favorite topics to write about being religion, education, and corporate media... if I was twenty, that sentence would make a lot more sense, but I'm twelve, so you're probably wondering how the hell I would know about any of things.
As you may or may not have noticed, I've deleted quite a few of my fanfictions. Why? First of all, I just can't stomach to read them. It's not my low self-esteem talking, I'm simply a very picky reader, and a very harsh critic of... myself, really. I'm tired of writing a bunch of dialogue-centered stories supposed to get a few chuckles out of people. I hold myself up to standards and know I can do better than that, which is why I'm now working on a more serious story, because I believe I can better show my value (albeit little value) as a writer. Screw the whole "I suck at dramatic stories things" I blabbed about in the first paragraph. I only wrote that because I hadn't tried making more in-depth stories. But now, with The McLean games, an angsty Warriors fanfiction, and a bunch of adventure and drama-packed stories in the works, I can happily say that I enjoy and think I'm more skilled at writing those type of stories instead of cheap humor.
But don't get me wrong, though. I'll still be uploading cheap humor stories every now and then.
My Incomplete List of Things I Hate
Bad Grammar/Spelling in stories - Look, I can understand if you're from another country and don't have a good understanding of the English language, that's fine. It's just that, well, instead of publishing a rather unprofessional-looking fanfiction in English, get a beta reader, or just pull up the grammar/spelling correction options of Microsoft Word. It's really not that hard. And if English is your native language but you're simply bad at grammar, well, I have two things for you:
1. Pay attention in English class. C'mon, it's really not that hard.
2. The same advice I give to non-native English speakers.
Mary Sues - Mary Sues are the epitome of horrible character development in stories. See, when you're creating a character, you have to make sure that the character has one thing crucial to the survival of an OC: FLAWS. Yes, I know how ridiculous that sounds, and by now you're probably going, "Wow, this girl is CRAY-CRAY! What does my OC, Amethyst Blossom Cherrybloom Sparkle Derpy-Hooves Raven Sugarcane need stupid FLAWS for?" Or you're not going like that, considering you're hopefully sane and have an IQ higher than your age. Either way is fine by me, but I'd prefer the latter. Anyways, flaws are what differentiate your character from a Barbie Doll and a real life person (quick note: You want your character to be a real life person, not a plastic figure). Having a few "adorkable quirks" or being clumsy is not a flaw. Being bossy, controlling, overly-ambitious, overly-sensitive, arrogant, conceited, timid, spineless/weak, unintelligent, oblivious, naive, brash, violent, irresponsible, deceitful, lazy, insensitive, crude, mean, or manipulative... THOSE are flaws. Also remember that your OC must have realistic powers and flaws physically. If your character looks absolutely perfect, you're doing something wrong, and you must make them anatomically possible. An OC cannot be stick-thin without either being starved or suffering an eating disorder, which is a serious condition that should not be glorified or encouraged. Make your OC have mousy or ratty-looking face features, or make them broad-shouldered or square-jawed (this is speaking on a female's behalf, for which those two traits would be deemed unattractive), maybe even pasty-skinned or pudgy. Of course, it's normal for them to have some attractive features, but you don't have to exaggerate those features to the point it takes you half a chapter to describe what they look like (cough - Tara Gillesbie - cough).
SOPA - Does ANYBODY like SOPA? Hm? Yeah, thought so.
The Problem Solverz - An utter humiliation of cartoons is what it is. I watched an episode because I wanted to see if it was as bad as people were saying, and DEAR GOD it was. This is the age of crisp, clean-cut, neatly-drawn animation like Phineas & Ferb, Danny Phantom, or Gravity Falls, and the age of beautiful, animesque animation such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teen Titans (to an extent), but... THAT was the best they could do? Are you joking or something? The main character's lips look like he's been playing the tuba for two long, his eyes are scary, and... WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT BROWN THING? The jokes were something I would've thought of when I was in second grade, and the background art was so bright and flashy, I was seeing fuzzy colors and shapes for an hour after I finished watching! (NOTE: May or may not be an exaggeration)
Encyclopedia Dramatica - From what the Internet and my siblings say, it USED to be a hilarious, satirical Wikipedia-mockery. Now it's just a place for hormone-raging 14 year-olds to vent their frustration over losing a match in Call of Duty. The only article that's not homophobic, anti-semitic, misogonyst/misandrist, racist, or glorifying bigotry in any way is the article ON ITSELF. Ego, much? For some reason it has something against furries, gays, Jews, autistics, and African-Americans as it feels the need to insult everything USING those words. They aren't cool, funny, or cynical. They're just inappropriate, offensive, and idiots. Also, have you SEEN their articles on atheists and Jews? WHO WRITES THESE THINGS?
