![]() Author has written 85 stories for Dark Angel, NCIS, and Newsroom. Wanna send me an e-mail? I'm at shywr1ter@. SORTING OUT THE STORIES Since I'm too stubborn to use the "Crossovers" feature, at a recent suggestion/request, I'll fill in which of the stories here are part of the "cousins-verse," featuring Logan Cale of Dark Angel and Tony DiNozzo of NCIS as cousins. Starting off: -- Concurrent Jurisdiction was the first story written in this AU and gives the most information about the cousins' relationship and background. -- Minimum Contacts is a WIP that is a direct sequel to Concurrent Jurisdiction, -- Designation? What Designation is a reworking of Max's rescue and Manticore's destruction in S2. On the other hand, there are some others, some in the DA time frame around 2020, and others more in the present or even earlier, with the cousins younger, like Homecoming (with a teenaged Tony!) and the 2005-ish Bookends. Will fill in more later, and thanks for looking! Shywr1ter DARK ANGEL FANS! Check out the group effort by an assortment of us M/L writers known collectively as the Writers' Pulse. Shywr1ter UPDATING THINGS: If you're wondering about all the unfinished stories here, please know this: Every story that remains unfinished has at the very least an outline and notes squirreled away, and some have scenes or partial chapters. I know it bothers some readers to have stories posted and not completed, but because I do this for fun and RL limits my writing time, and so often, a new idea suddenly demands my attention, some of the existing stories remain in limbo for a while. I have every intention of finishing every story here. I want to finish them all, even if that's wishful thinking that it will be done this century. For those of you who have sent reviews, PMs or e-mails asking for a particular story to be finished, I really do appreciate your interest. I admit I'm not sure why some people think snarky or cranky comments are more likely to result in an update, but they may have a point; after all, I haven't been much better at responding to lovely, gracious requests than I am at responding to complaints about being left hanging. I'm embarrassed to admit that it's taken more than just one request for a particular story to actually overcome whatever obsession I have at the moment and lead me to write specifically in response to an update request -- but I really do intend to finish what's posted here. So thanks to everyone who has commented, complained, or cajoled -- I appreciate the fact that you cared enough about what's here to do so. Shywr1ter ...and here, more than seven months later, I still want to update and plan to as I can -- but RL time is shrinking even more and I am getting here to write even less often. I wish it weren't the case, but hope you'll still check back. I haven't abandoned DA even though there are fewer & fewer of us who are still hanging around the fandom -- and thanks for checking in. Shywr1ter April 29, 2010 Having just read another several writer board diatribes against those of us who are "selfish" or "lazy" or capricious" or "childish" or "unfit" or unworthy of the term "writer" because we have unfinished stories here -- really, do they all need to be so snarky in expressing their opinions? -- I give up. You win, guys. I'm pond scum. Dog meat. Take me out and flog me, if it makes you feel better; you've gotten a good start by impugning my character, along with the character of hundreds here, all of whom you don't know. Of course, that hasn't stopped the comments. But it didn't exactly spur me on to update, did it? For those of you who don't mind irregular updates, I'll update as I can. I'd take down the unfinished stories, but FFN is a free place to store them and not everyone is offended by unfinished fic. And for those of you who took the time to send PMs or reviews saying how much you'd like an update, they are truly appreciated -- it's nice to be wanted, especially in such a kind way. Night & day difference from those comments mentioned two paragraphs up. Yes, it's a touchy subject and (as noted above) has been for a while, but then, that sort of knee-jerk judgment about others bugs me and it's far too widespread in fanfic. Some of us write for fun as we can, and post 'cos we want to. That opens us up to comments about the stories and about us as writers. It shouldn't, however, be occasion to belittle: it's very clear what a commenter thinks when they say they believe a story should be completed before it's posted; it's just as clear when a commenter says they hate getting to the end of a story and are left hanging for a resolution. That's honest; that's fair. It's not taking pot shots at the writer or making sweeping assumptions about why the story is in limbo. Name calling is ... well, name calling. Adult discussion doesn't have to stoop to that level. (I note that often those most vocal about those who don't update regularly seem to have a LOT of time on their hands -- they are in every topic in their communities, in every forum, every day, with multiple, lengthy posts. Bless 'em that they have that much time. But not all of us do, and I don't think they fully appreciate what it means not to have more than 2-4 hrs a day to sleep (literally), and less than that to eat dinner & catch up with your family/kids/housemates.) Before gearing up for the next squawk, a bit of compassion might be considered. By all means, don't read incomplete stories if you don't want to. But please don't bash the character, motivations, or human value of those of us who post as we go and have stories online unfinished. It's not the moral equivalency of genocide or drug trafficking. Many of us might be even more anxious to get back to the stories than you are, but -- for whatever reason -- don't, maybe can't. I am not going to remove what's here to make a small handful of irritated, judgmental types happy. I will be here when I can be, and I will continue to use the "completed" tag instead as applicable. Maybe those who find unfinished stories so uncivilized will use that filter. Shywr1ter, February 28, 2015 UPDATE, JANUARY 22, 2017: All updates suspended due to recent, extensive storm damage in my neighborhood, with indefinite power outages and additional matters to be handled, such as clean-up, insurance claims, etc. Will update when life resumes, but I have no estimate as to when that will be. |
