I am particularly picky about fanfics. I like fanfics that are well-constructed, have well-written characterization, good use of settings, and most of all, good grammar.
If there is are things that really irritates the heck out of me when reading a fan fic is poorly written stories that have poor plots, ones that are plagiarized from other stories, and the biggest irritation of them all is poor grammar/sentence structuring. Come on people, if most of you are adults who are writing fanfics, shouldn't you know how to correctly write a word.
I have seen too many instances where people would use an incorrect spelling of a character's name, location, and regular words that are used in every day life or forget a word in a sentence.
In Naruto stories, I see people write Konoha as Kohona, Chakra as Charka; Naruto as Naurto, Nauto; Sasuke as Sauske; Sakura as Saukra; Gaara as Garra; Tsunade as Tsuande; Jiraiya as Jiraya, Jairaya; Asuma as Azuma; Yagara as Yugura (Come on people, it's not so hard to know the correct spelling!).
Also, don't write huge paragraphs with multiple characters saying their sentences in the same paragraph. I recommend to many writers who write on this website and keep making grammatical errors, please for everyone's sake, get a beta reader, or read a fictional novel and look at how an author of a particular story formats the sentences and has use of a proofreader to catch and correct grammatical errors.
I seriously ask all writers to please proofread their stories before posting as to make sure there is near to no errors in grammatical errors and good sentence/paragraph structure.
I do not like when well-written stories that are very popular are not updated in months; I know that personal life takes precedence over everything else, but please put a note saying what is behind the lack of updates (family issues, work issues, writer's block, etc.) and put the story on hiatus till everything is resolved. And if you do not want to write anymore, put the story up for adoption to someone who will continue it (in a good, grammatically correct, and flowing way, etc.) or just remove the story from fanfiction.net so that people will not keep asking when will it be updated.
I have seen stories that I liked and were well received (views, reviews, etc) that had not been updated in months or even years; that could be avoided with what I said earlier in this paragraph). So please for everyone's sake, if you not updating due to personal issues, please write a note saying that the story is going to be put on hold/hiatus/suspension till said issue is resolved or if you are not interested in writing it anymore, put it up for adoption or take the story off fanfiction.net. Thank you :)
