April, 2013: Once again, my absolutely execrable luck with computers strikes. Almost immediately after posting the latest chapter of "1001 Domino Nights," my laptop died a horrible and apparently permanent death, taking with it all of my writing. At this point, I'm doubtful about being able to recover any of it. This is both disheartening and, frankly, exhausting just to contemplate. A very generous soul kindly donated a replacement laptop, but the thought of trying to recreate the lost files is just... ugh. Exhausting and depressing barely begin to describe the feeling. I hate change, so getting used to a new OS, new hardware, and finding a word processing program that I can download on dial-up (so much ARGH), and then getting used to using it... I'm tempted to give up fic writing and become a Luddite. So, writing has not been happening and probably won't be happening for the foreseeable future. (Windows 8 is insane, btw. And I loathe Wordpad. Why don't computers come loaded with Word? It's not like I have EVER needed, wanted, or used anything else in Office, Microsoft! Just Word. Argh.)
My blog has moved from LJ to Dreamwidth. Fic snippets and behind-the-scenes stuff can be found there.
The site has once again eaten all of my scene break indicators. I refuse to replace them for the fourth or fifth time since originally uploading the stories. To see the fic with the proper scene breaks intact, please visit my account on AO3.
July 6, 2010: My beloved cat, my dear companion for well over a decade (and a half), died today. I am grieving. Rascal was more than "just a pet." He was my baby, a faithful companion for more than a decade, and a huge part of my life. I miss him so much...
To make it easier to read my various series, here are the (fan)fictional "universes" I've created, with the individual stories listed in the recommended reading order.
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Wishes and Kisses" Series:
Includes short stories and ficlets that follow the life of Yugi and Atem after the events of "1001 Domino Nights".
1001 Domino Nights -- Yugi didn't believe in genies. Not until he freed Atem from a cursed puzzle and discovered the only wish he really wanted was to spend 1001 nights in the genie's arms. AU Harlequin romance fusion. "Best Puzzleshipping Story of 2009" contest winner.
A Christmas Wish...and a Kiss -- Future-fic for "1001 Domino Nights" (contains spoilers for the ending of DN). Christmas with Atem and Yugi. (Fluff)
Valentine Kisses -- A Valentine's Day future-fic for "1001 Domino Nights" (contains spoilers). Yugi celebrates his first -- very romantic! -- Valentine's Day with Atem. (Romantic fluff)
Wishes and Kisses series on AO3.
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Epilogue" Series:
My Yu-Gi-Oh! Post-Canon Series (All of these stories presume a romantic relationship between Yami and Yugi. Unless otherwise noted, these stories are complete.)
...Whom the King Loves: A love story in 50 sentences -- Mostly canon, with Puzzleshipping elements added. End of series fix-it. (Get-together fic)
Sweet Nothings -- Yami and Yugi negotiate terms of endearment. (Humor/romantic fluff)
Pharaoh -- Yami needs Yugi to remind him that not all games have life-or-death consequences. (Humor/friendship)
Little Things Can Mean So Much -- Yugi has always taught by example, and Yami is a fast learner. (Fluff)
Night Owls, Flounders, and Talking Equines (Or, 80s cartoons: More Surreal than a Fistful of Dalis) -- Yami figured that the sky in Joey's world was paisley and rained jelly doughnuts on alternate Thursdays... Also, Qubo is evil. (Humor, friendship)
Test of Strength -- To be posted. (Romantic fluff)
Bubblegum Crisis -- To be posted. (Humor, friendship)
The "Occupational Hazards" sub-series. (Still part of the above series, but this is the "crackfic branch" of my post-canon "story tree." Unless otherwise noted, all are complete.):
This is what happens when I decide to throw realism and logic to the four winds and have a little fun with these guys. (And shamelessly torture Seto. Because that never gets old.)
Gainful Employment -- A bored Yami goes looking for a job... at Kaiba Corp. Nothing good can possibly come of this. Seto Kaiba's day just got a lot worse. (Humor/friendship/crackfic) An on-going series of related one-shots, posted together for convenience and ease of reading.
'Twas the Duel before Christmas -- Side-story to "Gainful Employment". This is why Yami doesn't duel in public anymore. Yami/Yugi. (Written for the prompt: YamixYugi, naked, a strategically placed stocking, and a Santa hat.) Humor/romance/crackfic.
Forget the Chocolate Covered Cherries -- Yami unwittingly discovers a unique --and messy-- way to give Yugi chocolate for Valentine's Day, while Seto finds a... unique... way to turn a profit. (Humor/romance/crackfic; "30 Kisses" prompt #23: "candy")
Seto's Penguin -- The penguin had a cheery red ribbon tied around its neck like an oversized bow tie and wore what Seto considered to be a far too knowing expression on its embroidered face. (Side-story for Gainful Employment chapter 3.)
The "A Life Less Ordinary" sub-sub-series:
These stories may or may not tie-in with "Gainful Employment" (and its sequels/side-stories), but are still a part of the Epilogue: Crackfic Division series. Reading order isn't important for these, so newest stories are at the bottom of the list.
House Rules -- There's a very good reason Yugi & his friends aren't allowed to play Scrabble at the Mutou's house. (Humor/friendship)
A Matter of Control -- "Put down the snake, Yami, and let's discuss this like reasonable peop--er, spirits." At the moment, Yami was not feeling like a reasonable anything - person, spirit, or otherwise. In fact, he was feeling distinctly unreasonable. He upped his glare from #47 (You Are Annoying Me in a Manner that Makes Mind-Crushing You Look Like a Reasonable Option) to #86 (I Have a Loaded Cobra and Am More-than-Willing to Use It).
Custard's Last Stand -- Ryou awoke in a bathtub full of custard, with a killer hangover and no idea how he'd gotten there. Somehow, he was sure it was all his dark half's fault. (Prompt: Ryou, bathtub, custard.)
Snowmaggeddon -- Two embodied Dark Halves plus snow equals "snowmaggeddon". (Yami and Dark Bakura; gen fic, double drabble.)
The "More than Meets the Eye" sub-sub-sub-series (YGO/Transformers G-1 crossover 'verse):
Branches off some time after "Gainful Employment" and becomes a cracky, crossover universe with Generation One Transformers.
One of Those Days -- Wheeljack accidentally opens a portal into the Shadow Realm. Chaos (or, at least, Blue-Eyes White Dragon) ensues.
Several More of Those Days -- Yami introduces Yugi and Seto to the Autobots. This goes about as well as you'd expect.
Chosen Ones -- Yugi and Hot Rod commiserate over their lots in life as "Chosen Ones." (Drabble)
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Eternal Nile" Series:
Yami is a dashing archaeologist, Yugi is the inventor of Duel Monsters; when they meet, it's magic! (Alternate Universe, slash)
Found and Lost -- (official prequel to SotN) Sugoroku Mutou makes the find of a lifetime, but loses his freedom in the process, setting events into motion that will lead to his grandson Yugi finally discovering his own destiny -- and love. Complete
Shadows on the Nile -- While searching for his missing grandpa, Yugi encounters a mysterious cult, the tomb of a lost pharaoh -- and an intriguing archaeologist named Dan "Yami" Viridian. Yami/Yugi. Complete
Reflections in the Nile (sequel to SotN) -- After escaping death in a lost tomb, Yugi vanishes in a swirl of dark magic. The search to find him leads Yami to discover more about his own memories and magic -- and to the fulfillment of a destiny set into motion thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt. (Still in the "floating around in the back of my head" stage.)
That 'Touchy/Feely' Stuff -- Seto doesn't deal well with 'that touchy/feely stuff'. Yugi is amused. (Post-RitN, contains mild spoilers; friendship/humor)
Christmas on the Nile -- Future-fic! (Minor spoilers for RitN.) Already reaching for another glitter-coated rotini, Yugi opened his mouth to explain, realized he would have to go into the whole 'Evil Noodle Overlord' story, and shook his head instead. "Inside joke. Yami'll get it."
Honeymoon -- "You realize, of course, that this in no way makes me the girl." Yugi and Yami begin their new lives together in their usual fashion.
Marked -- Yugi wakes up with a strange tattoo that wasn't there when he went to sleep. Yami makes it up to him. (Future fic, romance, humor)
Non-canon stories set in the Eternal Nile universe, written by other authors (aka fanfic for my fanfic; sure to be Jossed once I write RitN):
Ties of Friendship
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Shadow Wars Chronicles" series:
Alien invaders attempt to conquer the solar system. With the help of his friends (and mysterious ancient magic), Yami is determined to fulfill his ancient destiny and stop them. (Alternate Universe, slash and minor het pairings)
Chariots of the Gods -- Sci-fi AU. The fate of the worlds depends on a young man, his shattered soul, and a golden puzzle. Ancient magic, alien invaders, giant robots. Contains depictions of futuristic war, PTSD, and action/violence. Some non-graphic allusions to child-abuse (Gozaburo Kaiba & his highly dysfunctional approach to child-rearing). Eventual Yami/Yugi romance. Be aware that the romance is a subplot, not the point of the story, and is very slow-moving, as I want to build their relationship at least somewhat realistically. WIP
Fingerprints of the Gods -- sequel to CotG. The war continues on a new front, and things heat up between Yami and Yugi.
War of the Gods -- sequel to FotG
Shadow Wars Prequels. These Chariots-verse prequel ficlets are being posted in my LJ, as well as here. All are complete. (Ficlets set in the SWC universe, before CotG):
Incidents taking place before the events of CotG, but in the same universe. This is an on-going series, posted as I complete them. Not written in chronological order. The list gives the suggested reading order.
Collision with Destiny -- Yami has a run-in at Kaiba Corporation that literally changes his life.
First Contact -- Yami Kaiba attempts to interface for the first time with the machine that will become the "Dark Magician" AI.
The Choice -- Yami's father isn't happy to find Yami involved in the E-AI project, but offers him a deal that will allow him to continue as the test-pilot.
Laughter is the Best Medicine -- Hoping to cheer up a depressed and injured Yami, Joey plays a prank on Seto.
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Tales of the Three Realms" series:
The continued freedom of the three realms (Light, Dark, and Shadow) depends on Yami finding his destined "mate" -- and the Sacred Items -- in time to stop an evil force from destroying them all. (Alternate Universe, fantasy, humor, romance; the main story is slash; unless otherwise noted, the rest of the series is gen.)
Undercover Pharaoh -- An accident forces Yugi to take over the Mutous' newest game shop. Desperate for help, he hires the mysterious "Yami Green" as a handyman. But Yami is much more than he seems. His true identity -- and his quest to recover seven magical objects of power -- soon lead him and Yugi into danger... and love. Yami/Yugi (Puzzleshipping) slash romance. WIP
A Sister's Heart -- Side-story; Isis has always been a perfectionist. Because a single mistake could mean losing her brother forever. (Gen, family, angst)
Prequel mini-fics for the "Tales of the Three Realms" universe:
All of the fic in this mini-series of side-stories will be gen, focusing on either Yami's childhood or concurrent events in the Dark Realm. All are set prior to the events portrayed in UP.
Chaos Theory -- The Magician of Black Chaos presents his theory about the identity of the Savior of the Three Realms to his brother, the Dark Sage. Gen fic.
You've Got a Friend -- Atem's childhood was not a happy one. Fortunately, the Kuriboh Miu is there to save him when things go wrong. Gen fic.
Just Call Out My Name -- Companion story to You've Got a Friend. Mahaad's soul will always find that of his Pharaoh. Mahaad's POV. Gen fic.
A Feast of Shadows -- The incursion of the Shadows into the Dark Realm grows worse. Meanwhile, Mahaad does his best to see that the future savior of the Realms survives his childhood. Kuriboh helps.
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Scrapbook" series:
A series of related short stories exploring the history of the Mutou family, especially as it relates to Yugi's life.
Kodak Memories -- Yugi doesn't remember his grandmother, but he still feels connected to her through photos. (Family)
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Spork-verse" series:
Parody/meta-fiction in which our heroes encounter overdone cliches, horrific spelling, purple prose, and the Plot Device Fairy. And everything is all Shadi's fault.
The Millennium Spork -- Shadi said, "You must spork the badfic!" A badfic parody in which Kaiba meets his bubbly 'other half'; Yami gets his own body thanks to the Plot Device Fairy; and Yugi ponders life, the multiverse, and everything. Or something. (Crackfic all the way. Mostly gen-ish.)
A Very Sporky Christmas Special -- "Seriously, Yugi, what part of 'Son of Re' are you not getting?" No offerings, no gratitude, and now this. Yami wants a festival of his own for Christmas. He gets something even better: Yugi. Puzzleshipping, Spork-verse style! (Mild slash)
The Mary Sue Litmus Test -- Seto and Yami argue over who's the bigger Canon Sue. (Gen, not posted.)
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Light of Egypt" series:
Victorian AU in which Ryou is a reluctant medium channeling the spirits of a Pharaoh, a Tomb Robber, and a Magician-Priest (among others).
Speaker for the Dead -- Ryou Bakura hears dead people. (Gen)
Breath of Life -- Yugi suspected the séance would prove interesting when, not five minutes after he walked into the darkened parlor, the medium shoved him up against the wall and kissed him breathless. (Humor, implied future Pharaoh Atem/Yugi)
(Yu-Gi-Oh!) The "Not-Quite-Twilight Saga" series:
My Life as a Teenage Vampire -- Actors Yami Kingson and Yugi Mutou film "The Boy I Love is a Vampire". Yami sparkles. He is not amused. Everyone else is.
The One Where the Movie Poster Shows a Crescent Moon even though a New Moon is Totally Dark aka "The Sequel" (title shortened to MLaaTV: Part Deux to fit site limits) -- Yami and Yugi make another movie. Yami is still sparkling; Yugi is still horny. Malik is shirtless. Fluffy slash ensues.
The series on AO3.
(Dark Shadows) The "Twist of Fate" series:
Angelique does not curse Barnabas to eternity as a vampire. She has something much worse in mind. (Barnabas as a werewolf.) (Alternate Universe; original 1960s series; het: Barnabas/Josette, Barnabas/Angelique)
A Fate Worse than Undeath? -- Cursed by his jilted lover, Barnabas is driven from his family and home by his need to protect those he loves. Vignette.
Lorelei -- Barnabas has fled Collinwood, but he cannot outrun Angelique's curse... or Angelique. Contains het (male/female), non-explicit sensual scenes. Barnabas/Angelique.
The Winter Wild -- Driven to despair by what the curse has forced him to do, Barnabas seeks a desperate escape from his fate -- but Angelique's curse holds an even darker twist in store for him. WARNING: Some imagery may be disturbing for sensitive readers. Potential triggers: off-screen killing of a child (by the werewolf), implied cannibalism, premature childbirth.
Dark Reunion -- the final installment in the ToF series. Coming... eventually! (I hope.)
The entire series on AO3.
(Twilight) The "This, Our Eternity" series:
An alternate version of the Twilight universe in which Carlisle turns Edward in order to make him his mate. Nods to canon, but no Carlisle/Esme or Edward/Bella. Carlisle/Edward romance. (Alternate Universe, vampires, pre-slash UST and slash; listed chronologically.)
Celestial Convergence -- A love story in 50 sentences. Carlisle/Edward romantic pairing. A companion piece to the drabble series, this fic is for the 1_sentence (50 prompts) challenge on LJ. Slash, AU, vampires. Complete!
The End is the Beginning -- The most fascinating creature Carlisle has ever seen is seventeen and dying. (Drabble.)
Obsession -- The memory of a single smile holds him captive for hours. (Companion to TEiTB; drabble.)
Awake in Hell -- His blood boiled within his veins, every cell of his body ablaze with agony. (Edward awakes as a newborn. Drabble.)
Touch -- Edward had egg all over his hand. And his arm. And his chest. From the sticky wetness coating his nose and chin, he was pretty sure he had egg on his face and probably in his hair. Newborn vampire Edward relearns basic survival skills. (Pre-slash UST; ficlet.)
Prelude to a Journey -- Newly returned to Carlisle after his "rebellion", Edward contemplates their changed relationship. (Pre-slash friendship with subtle romantic overtones & UST. Short story.)
Wada Calcium -- They are vampires. There is absolutely no need for calcium supplements... (Slash, domestic fluff. Drabble.)
Romantic Inclinations -- Only when he walked into the bedroom and saw rose petals strewn over the bed did the significance of the evening's events sink in. (Slash, fluff. Valentine's Day drabble.)
With this Ring -- "With this ring, I thee wed. With my body, I thee worship." Proposals and acceptance, of marriage and other things. (Slash, romance, fluff; prompted ficlet.)
Harmonic Discordance -- Shapeshifters, Edward's "singer," and manipulative nomads. Oh, my. (Angst, drama, slash, romance.)

(Batman) The "Gotham on 100 Words a Night" drabble series:

A Knight in Blackened Armor -- As love affairs go, Gotham's with Batman is brutal and short.

(The Walking Dead) The "Dissonance Reduction and Other Survival Strategies" series:
A series of 100 word drabbles exploring some of the characters' motivations and thoughts during seasons 1 and 2 of the tv series.

NOTICE: As of 2011, I am no longer active in YGO fandom. (Edited to add: DON'T PANIC! I intend to finish my YGO works-in-progress and to at least post "not!fic" (scenes and linking summaries) for any planned fic that I don't get around to writing. Not!fic will be on AO3 only, as that type of "story" doesn't meet the posting guidelines for FFnet.)
