Yo! I'm rubisora18117, or Rubi for short! I love anime, manga, video games, cosplay, drawing, writing fan fics and original stories, Pocky, Ramune soda, and yaoi. You might have met me in real life and wouldn't know. I've actually met people online first then by pure accident met them in real life not knowing who they were online. One way to know it's me is that I kinda look like a female version of Fubuki from GX with short hair for the time being (dark brown hair and brown eyes) and most likely wearing a hat unless I forget to grab one. But, half the time I'm in costume or wearing a wig for no reason.
I'm also on Gaia Online. My main acount is Rubai Sora. I've made a mule, but I will not give it out. Why? Because I want to try and keep those two accounts as separate as I can.
Not only that, but I'm on DA! So, if ya want, look at my art here! I have resently been posting some artwork. I have some pictures for some fics I will be posting. I will put them up when the time comes. I really do have stories that I will post picture for besides what would be in scraps! The current count for art for fanfics is...
Eros and Echo: 5 in scraps
I'm pleased to say I finally have fan art from someone other than my beta! (To see what what my beta drew, look at my avatar. It's Eros and Echo!) I can finally have this section up after so long! Maybe I could convince my beta to post some of her fan art as well!
Eros and Echo
Okay, this should have been posted in November. But, I kept forgetting... I know, bad Rubi... I'm sure a few of you noticed that Forgotten One and Mirror Image haven't been updated in the longest time. There is a reason. My old laptop, Neko-chan, is kinda dead. I mean, the data is still good, but the screen won't work even when it hooks up to a monitor. Supposedly it's the video card. I have no clue since it was my mom who picked it up and I keep getting a different take of what happened. This was back in October. Now you might be wondering why is this an excuse as I haven't updated since June. Well, July was a bad month for me. And then I started to take classes again after 2 years in August. So, I had a dry spell for inspiration. Then Neko-chan happened just when I had inspiration.
So, here's the deal, I won't be able to update until I get the data off my old laptop because, let's face it, I really don't want to retype what I had already. I have a faint idea where I left off in both fics, but that's it. So, for the time being, I'm working on figuring out some new fic ideas (I had no clue I had so many). Only one of those ideas I'm actually starting to type out. Surprisingly, its a Vocaloid fic of all things.
Oh, yes I name my laptops! My new one is Noa! If you want a funny story, ask me what happened to my first one, Wing!
FanFic Pet Peeves
Okay, when it comes to fanfics, I don't have many pet peeves that would prevent me from reading them. Reason being is that I am sometimes guilty of these pet peeves. Here is a list of them:
-Poor grammar and spelling. I understand spell check isn't perfect and betas can miss things. It has happened several times to me where I would go back and reread some old fics. Not to mention I personally suck at spelling and abuse spell check. But, there is no excuse for bad grammar and spelling to the point I have to reread a sentence several times to figure out what you are saying unless English isn't your first language. Even then, I would still suggest getting a beta to help out.
-Random Japanese words/sentences. I am guilty of having some Japanese words in my fics, but it's no longer to the point that it is annoying. I don't want to keep scrolling to the bottom of the page to figure out what you just said. The exception to this is if you use honorifics (including sensei, sempai, etc.), addressing people (like mother is okaa-san or big brother is nii-san), a well known phrase of the person (example: Heero and his "Omae o korosu"), or cuss words. Hey, cussing in Japanese is fun! Another exception is if what was said was not supposed to be understood by the rest of the people. This goes for any language except for Al Bhed since it's more of a cipher then a true language and there are translators out there.
-OCs pairing with cannon characters. Once more, I'm guilty of doing this at times. Difference is, I no longer pair them up with the character the fic is mainly about. If you have something with a large cast, you really shouldn't have to do that. The one exception is if the OC is in a one sided relationship with the character.
-Self-insertion fics. Okay, so most of my pet peeves are stuff I do, this one is no exception. In Kitty Daze, Tori was kinda the anti-me in many ways in that she would do stuff I would never do. If I ever get around to this one fic I have planned, it will have more self-insertion then what I normally like. Difference is the characters (yes, plural) that are supposed to be me act differently. One is how I would like to act in an MMORPG, another is more of me acting like an OC I have, and the third will be more like me. In the end, they will not know everything that is going on with everybody yet still help move the plot.
-Unnecessary OOC. I try to avoid OOC unless it is within reason. Like if Kaiba is supposed to have some mental illness, have him act that way. If the fic takes place 10 years in the future (or past) of the cannon, I understand the characters might have matured then what we are used to. But, if you have a happy, non-psychotic Yami Bakura for most of the fic, you better have a good reason why or else I will stop reading right there and then! And if you do FF7 Cid in a Kingdom Hearts fic, I better see some cussing.
Rules on Pairings
As stated above, I dislike cannon characters with OCs. There is one more thing I would like to touch base on dealing with pairings. I will respect whatever pairings you may like, but I will not read fics if they suddenly become a pairing I dislike. It is not you, I just can't bare to read those pairings. Once in awhile if I'm really into a fic, I will suck it up. The only time I might dislike a pairing is if I see little or no evidence of that pairing in the cannon ever happening. (example: KaibaxAnzu or SasuSaku. I'm sorry if I offend any fans of these pairings, I just don't see it ever happening.) The exception to this is if you are retelling the cannon and the pairing is possible in that universe.
And now for something different...
This section was created to explain my reasoning for some of my fics. For the most part, I will explain why I have a certain character be uke rather than follow the trend of seme. I will also explain why I have that same character have certain OOC-ness. This reflects my opinions, so do not flame me because of them. I am also typing this half asleep, which can backfire with me rambling. Thank you.
Back when I was really into reading puppyshipping fics, I noticed Jonouchi would usually be uke. That's fine with me. What I also noticed early on is that whoever was uke got the angst. That's not fine with me as I like my Kaiba on the angsty/emo side. This is why I became a JonouchixKaiba fan. The problem was that back then, few liked to write Kaiba angst it seemed. This lead me to write Kaiba in my fics a little on the uke side because I focused on him. Why? I'm a Kaiba fan girl, that's why! This leads us to a section I like to call:
Why Kaiba Seto Should be Uke
Explanation for my Version of Kaiba
-Kaiba's past. This seemed to be the main way people wrote angst fics. They would have Kaiba find out about how Jonouchi lives, remembers how it was like for him, and I think many of you can fill in the rest. What I want to bring to your attention is how Kaiba deals with people. Let's face it, both of his parents were dead by age 8 and was abandoned by his relatives when the inheritance money was gone. For two years, Kaiba had to watch over Mokuba before managing to get adopted by Gozaburo. For five years, he was taught not to get close to people, at which Mokuba kinda betrays him for a little time. Yes, this can apply to both uke and seme. This leads to my next point.
-Kaiba's mental state. We all know Kaiba isn't completely sane. What I want to touch base on is some issues that I believe he should have. For one, I believe he has abandonment issues. From above, he would think that people have a tendency to leave him. This is why he is overly protective of Mokuba. With abandonment issues, he would have a fear to get close to anybody. Gozaburo did train him to believe everyone is against him. So, to avoid any more pain than he endured, he just wants to avoid everyone. (I think I just went in a circle.)
-Suicide Boy. I'm sorry to say, but Kaiba is pretty much as suicidal as Heero Yuy from Gundam Wing. In fact, if you watch certain episodes from each series, you would see that some scenes are pretty much the same. (For example, the scene where Duo and Heero escape from the OZ facility early in the series kinda looks like the scene where Yami and Kaiba escape from the Virtual World with Noa's help and avoid Gozaburo.) Either Kaiba's an adrenaline junkie or he's very suicidal. Whatever the case is, he's not very stable mentally.
-Attitude. While Kaiba does present himself as an alpha male, it can be taken another way. There is no one to really impress with his superiority as pretty much everyone already knows that. Instead, I like to take it as he is showing he can handle things himself. This can be interpreted as he doesn't want his partner to worry about him when things get bad.
-Damsel vs Hero. More often than not, Kaiba is the one who needs to be saved. It might be due to his status, but he get's in trouble just as much as Mokuba does. Who ends up saving his ass? Yuugi and his friends. In terms of fics, a more likely scenario would be Jonouchi saving Kaiba, not the other way around. Not to mention Jonouchi could use it as blackmail later on.
-Making the first move. Let's face it, if Kaiba and Jonouchi were really to get together in the series, everyone would be playing matchmaker. The two in charge of said matchmaking would be none other than Mokuba and Yuugi. In the end, it would make sense that they would focus on Jonouchi has he would be easier to cave-in. Kaiba wouldn't believe it at first, but will eventually see the light. Even if it isn't puppyshipping, Mokuba would still play cupid and Kaiba wouldn't believe it.
-Mokuba. Yes, the little brat (as I like to call him affectionately) gets a bullet point. People like to focus on Kaiba being the overprotective brother. I like to focus on the overprotective little brother. He would do anything to make sure his brother is safe, even dressing up in a princess outfit. He also doesn't like it when people talk bad about his brother even if it is true. So what's stopping the little guy from taking out a pocketknife, holding it to your throat, and making you take back whatever you said bad about Kaiba? Well, besides height in most cases, nothing else! Don't believe me? Go read the manga back when he was first introduced and Death-T! He makes Yami Marik and Yami Bakura sane!
In conclusion, I like to focus on what I like to call "inner Kaiba" than "cannon Kaiba". To me, it is more fun to write. Also, that mindset was ingrained into my head because I used to rp with a friend who liked a strong Jonouchi. Oh, that leads me to my final point in terms of puppyshipping!
-Jonouchi. Jonouchi is far from being some weakling. Yes, he isn't the brightest crayon in the box. Yes, people tend to walk all over him. But there is one thing that gives him an edge over Kaiba: Jonouchi was in a gang in junior high and was a pretty strong guy as well. In fact, it was in either the anime or manga that Jonouchi fought several guys by himself because Hirutani, his old gang leader, told him to. And about his father. They never really show what happens at the Jonouchi home. For all we know, Jonouchi's rarely home because he's hanging out with his friends and just yells at his father. This is different from Kaiba's situation where we actually have a glimpse at what he had to put up with.
