Author has written 53 stories for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Harry Potter, and Kane Chronicles.

Does anyone know what today is...?

(9/2/14) ((2/9/14 for non-Americans))

Anybody?

Of course not.

Today is the day that I have officially been writing on here for one year. In that time, my writing has gone from... well, the Tartarus that is the grammar of Luke's Secret to Who Are You? I Am the Ghost King, which is the ninth most reviewed HP/PJO crossover.

In the past year, I wrote a first draft of a real book.

I don't know if people celebrate things like this, but I am.

I swear on the River Styx that Who Are You? I Am the Ghost King will have an update by... Friday.

If I don't then you all have permission to kill me.

In other news my birthday's this month and I'm excited.

Um... what else did I have to say...?

Oh, yeah.

I wanted to say thank you to all my readers and friends on this site.

One year ago, I was still in the 'don't talk to strangers on the internet' mindset and now I have friends, if friends that I often forget to respond to (sorry).

I think that was it.

Signing off (For now)

By the way, feel free to PM me anytime about whatever. Whether it's one of my stories or you want to know if unicorns poop rainbows seriously PM me. I'll probably fangirl about getting a message. (Did you know that this site thinks fangirl is a misspelling?)

“I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life. I’ve learned that making a “living” is not the same thing as making a “life.” I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back. I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one. I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.”

“I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don’t feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid’s runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are— particularly when it’s difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain (“I’m not a big one for paying compliments…”), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. Story is the only thing that’s important.”

There was no planning for retirement, There was no planning for a career. There was no planning. No time for planning. No time for a future. But then the life spans started getting longer, and people started having more and more future. And now life has become the future. Every moment of your life is lived for the future-you go to high school so you can go to college so you can get a good job so you can get a nice house so you can afford to send your kids to college so they can get a good job so they can get a nice house so they can afford to send their kids to college.”

“Before I got here, I thought for a long time that the way out of the labyrinth was to pretend that it did not exist, to build a small, self-sufficient world in the back corner of the endless maze and to pretend that I was not lost, but home.”

-John Green, Looking for Alaska

“People, I thought, wanted security. They couldn't bear the idea of death being a big black nothing, couldn't bear the thought of their loved ones not existing, and couldn't even imagine themselves not existing. I finally decided that people believed in an afterlife because they couldn't bear not to.”

-John Green, Looking for Alaska

“You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you'll escape one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.”

-John Green, Looking for Alaska

“What the hell is instant? Nothing is instant. Instant rice takes five minutes, instant pudding an hour. I doubt that an instant of blinding pain feels particularly instantaneous.”

“Keep climbing,' he told himself.

'Cheeseburgers,' his stomach replied.

'Shut up,' he thought.

'With fries,' his stomach complained.”

-Rick Riordan, The House of Hades

“Akhlys lunged at Percy, and for a split second he thought: Well, hey, I’m just smoke. She can’t touch me, right?

He imagined the Fates up in Olympus, laughing at his wishful thinking: LOL, NOOB!”

“Nico, I've seen a lot of brave things. But what you just did? That was maybe the bravest.”

-Rick Riordan, The House of Hades

“Then there was Nico di Angelo. Dang, that kid gave Leo the freaky-deakies"

"When we take over command," Frank suggested, "our first order of business should be to load Octavian into the nearest catapult and fire him as far away as possible."

"Agreed," Reyna said.

“Trying to forget really doesn't work. In fact, it's pretty much the same as remembering.”

-Rebecca Stead, When You Reach Me

“*HERE IS A SMALL FACT*

You are going to die.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“A human doesn't have a heart like mine. The human heart is a line, whereas my own is a circle, and I have the endless ability to be in the right place at the right time. The consequence of this is that I'm always finding humans at their best and worst. I see their ugly and their beauty, and I wonder how the same thing can be both. Still, they have one thing I envy. Humans, if nothing else, have the good sense to die.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“The only thing worse than a boy who hates you: a boy that loves you.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Like most misery, it started with apparent happiness.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“It kills me sometimes, how people die.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I am haunted by humans.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Even death has a heart.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“A snowball in the face is surely the perfect beginning to a lasting friendship.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Usually we walk around constantly believing ourselves. "I'm okay" we say. "I'm alright". But sometimes the truth arrives on you and you can't get it off. That's when you realize that sometimes it isn't even an answer--it's a question. Even now, I wonder how much of my life is convinced.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“A small but noteworthy note. I've seen so many young men over the years who think they're running at other young men. They are not. They are running at me.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“If only she could be so oblivious again, to feel such love without knowing it, mistaking it for laughter.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I have to say that although it broke my heart, I was, and still am, glad I was there.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“People observe the colors of a day only at its beginnings and ends, but to me it's quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations with each passing moment. A single hour can consist of thousands of different colors. Waxy yellows, cloud-spot blues. Murky darkness. In my line of work, I make it a point to notice them.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Together, they would watch everything that was so carefully planned collapse, and they would smile at the beauty of destruction.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“One was a book thief. The other stole the sky.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I want words at my funeral. But I guess that means you need life in your life.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Often I wish this would all be over, Liesel, but then somehow you do something like walk down the basement steps with a snowman in your hands.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I guess humans like to watch a little destruction. Sand castles, houses of cards, that's where they begin. Their great skills is their capacity to escalate.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“The words. Why did they have to exist? Without them, there wouldn't be any of this.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“She wanted none of those days to end, and it was always with disappointment that she watched the darkness stride forward.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“A SMALL PIECE OF TRUTH

I do not carry a sickle or scythe.

I only wear a hooded black robe when it's cold.

And I don't have those skull-like facial features you seem to enjoy pinning on me from a distance. You want to know what I truly look like? I'll help you out. Find yourself a mirror while I continue.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Of course, I'm being rude. I'm spoiling the ending, not only of the entire book, but of this particular piece of it. I have given you two events in advance, because I don't have much interest in building mystery. Mystery bores me. It chores me. I know what happens and so do you. It's the machinations that wheel us there that aggravate, perplex, interest, and astound me. There are many things to think of. There is much story.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“In years to come, he would be a giver of bread, not a stealer - proof again of the contradictory human being. So much good, so much evil. Just add water.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“If they killed him tonight, at least he would die alive.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Please, trust me, I most definitely can be cheerful. I can be amiable. Agreeable. Affable. And that's only the A's. Just don't ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“It's hard to not like a man who not only notices the colors, but speaks them”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“It was a year for the ages, like 79, like 1346, to name just a few. Forget the scythe, Goddamn it, I needed a broom or a mop. And I needed a vacation.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Can a person steal happiness? Or is just another internal, infernal human trick?”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“You’re a human, you should understand self-obsession.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I could introduce myself properly, but it's not really necessary. You will know me well enough and soon enough, depending on a diverse range of variables. It suffices to say that at some point in time, I will be standing over you, as genially as possible. Your soul will be in my arms. A color will be perched on my shoulder. I will carry you gently away.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“There were people everywhere on the city street, but the stranger could not have been more alone if it were empty.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“They say that war is death's best friend, but I must offer you a different point of view on that one. To me, war is like the new boss who expects the impossible. He stands over your shoulder repeating one thin, incessantly: 'Get it done, get it done.' So you work harder. You get the job done. The boss, however, does not thank you. He asks for more.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“(By the way-I like this human idea of the grim reaper. I like the scythe. It amuses me.)”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“A REASSURING ANNOUNCEMENT Please, be calm, despite that previous threat. I am all bluster - I am not violent. I am not malicious. I am a result.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“The question is, what color will everything be at that moment when I come for you? What will the sky be saying?”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“The point is, it didn’t really matter what the book was about. It was what it meant that was important.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“When death captures me,' the boy vowed, 'he will feel my fist on his face.'

Personally, I quite like that. Such stupid gallantry.

Yes.

I like that a lot.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“It’s the leftover humans. The survivors. They’re the ones I can’t stand to look at, although on many occasions I still fail. I deliberately seek out the colors to keep my mind off them, but now and then, I witness the ones who are left behind, crumbling among the jigsaw puzzle of realization, despair, and surprises. They have punctured hearts. They have beaten lungs. Which in turn brings me to the subject I am telling you about tonight, or today, or whatever the hour and color. It’s the story of one of those perpetual survivors –an expert at being left behind.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“But then, is there cowardice in the acknowledgment of fear? Is there cowardice in being glad that you lived?”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Somewhere in all the snow, she could see her broken heart, in two pieces.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“If only she could be so oblivious again, to feel such love without knowing it, mistaking it for laughter and bread with only the scent of jam spread on top of it. It was the best time of her life.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“Competence was attractive.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

“And I stop listening to me, because to put it bluntly, I tire me.”

-Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

"If there's anyone I wish to stun at dinner, I'll hit him in the face.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

“When a monster stopped behaving like a monster, did it stop being a monster? Did it become something else?”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

"And I suppose it never occurs to you to start small. If I told you my roof needed rebuilding, you'd start by knocking down the house.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

"I'm going to name my firstborn child after you."
Katsa laughed at that. "For the child's sake, wait for a girl. Or even better, wait until all your children are older and give my name to whichever is the most troublesome and obstinate."

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

“In the end, Leck should have stuck to his lies. For it was the truth he almost told that killed him.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

"When you're a monster, she thought, you are thanked and praised for not behaving like a monster. She would like to restrain from cruelty and receive no admiration for it.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

“Your brand of comfort bears some similarity to your tactical offense.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

“Mercy was more frightening than murder, because it was harder.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

“The only way for you to keep your mind straight is to run from those who would confuse you.”

-Kristin Cashore, Graceling

"Your hair is positively blue.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“Maybe it was for the best that she'd been so foolish, for if she'd known how hard this would be, perhaps she wouldn't have done it.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“There's no shame in crawling when one can't walk.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“It was a strange monster, for beneath its exterior it was frightened and sickened by its own violence. It chastised itself for its savagery. And sometimes it had no heart for violence and rebelled against it utterly.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“You won't even take your bow? Are you planning to throttle a moose with your bare hands, then?”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“If I'd been trying to kill him, he'd be dead.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“But everyone has some kind of power to hurt people.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Graceling

“Great! He has indigestion, so let's torture him with cake.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“There will be no yelling at people who are bleeding themselves to unconsciousness.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“You're the queen, and it's the queen's house, and whatever Brigan may accomplish, he's highly unlikely ever to be queen.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

"Brigan, could you attempt, at least, to make yourself presentable? I know this is a war, but the rest of us are trying to pretend it's a party.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“I don't want to love you if you're only going to die.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“Are you determined to leave me in this world to live without my heart?”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“It's hard to wake from a nightmare when the nightmare is real.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

"Your sadness is one of the things that makes you beautiful to me. Don’t you see that? I understand it. It makes my own sadness less frightening.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“I must stop wishing for things to happen. Because something will happen eventually, and when it does, I'll be bound to wish it hadn't.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

"Well said, Lady. The world may be falling to pieces, but at least the lot of us can have a bath.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“His last thought was that it hadn't been stupidity that had allowed his son to enchant him so easily with words. It had been love.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“If we're to be judged by our parents and grandparents, then we all may as well impale ourselves upon jagged bits of rock.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“Some of the smartest men have a hard time comprehending the obvious.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“Then I'm sorry I don't remember more. If we knew a person was going to die, we'd hold harder to the memories.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Fire

“Find something useful to do with your morning,' she thought to him as she neared her chambers. 'Do something heroic in front of an audience. Knock a child into a river while no one's looking and then rescue him.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“...that's how memory works ... Things disappear without your permission, then come back again without your permission.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“The more I see and hear, the more I realize how much I don't know.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“Only a person with the true heart of a dictionary-writer would be lying in bed, three days after being stabbed in the gut, worrying about his P's.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“Why does everybody throw every troublesome thing into the river?”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“I wish people would stop hitting Po," whispered Bitterblue.
"Well," Giddon said. "Yes. I'm hoping Skye is following my model. Punch Po; go on a long trip; feel better; come back and make up.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“For a group of people who claimed to be concerned for her safety, they did seem to have developed rather a habit of encouraging uprisings against monarchs.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“That's interesting," Bitterblue said. "You think a conscience requires fear?”

Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“I'm afraid of plenty of things," he said. "I just do them anyway.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“It has been a hard lesson to learn, that greatness requires suffering.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“Ideas were growing in all directions and dimensions; they were becoming a sculpture, or a castle. And then everyone left her, to return to their own affairs; and she was alone, and empty and unbelieving again.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“Our own story is even more important for us to know than history.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“Well, none of it would ever end if she was too afraid for it to begin.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

Po moaned. "Was he beat-to-a-pulp handsome, or perhaps just push-down-a-flight-of-stairs handsome?"
"I would not push a seventy six year old man down a flight of stairs," said Katsa indignantly.”

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“This is a trial about watermelons!"

-Kirstin Cashore, Bitterblue

“Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“We all bear scars,... Mine just happen to be more visible than most.”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

"Now you must pretend that you like me, or else everything will be ruined.”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“As my friend, you should either bring me along, or keep me company."
"Friend?" he asked.
She blushed. "Well, 'scowling escort' is a better description. Or 'reluctant acquaintance', if you prefer.”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

"No fair maiden should die alone," he said, putting a hand on hers. "Shall I read to you in your final moments? What story would you like?"
She snatched her hand back. "How about the story of the idiotic prince who won't leave the assassin alone?"
"Oh! I love that story! It has such a happy ending, too--why, the assassin was really feigning her illness in order to get the prince's attention! Who would have guessed it? Such a clever girl."

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

"I don't quite comprehend why you'd force someone to bow when the purpose of the gesture is to display allegiance and respect."

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“Apparently, a woman can only go so long without a sword between her hands.”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“You could rattle the stars.”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“Second place is a nice title for the first loser."

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“What's the point in having a mind if you don't use it to make judgments?”

"What's the point of having a heart if you don't use it to spare others from the harsh judgment of your mind?”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“His words were coated with glorious boredom”

-Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

“I worry because I care. Gods help me, I know I shouldn't, but I do. So I will always tell you to be careful, because I will always care what happens.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“Why are you crying?"

"Because," she whispered, her voice shaking, "you remind me of what the world ought to be. What the world can be.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“It was like coming home or being born or suddenly finding an entire half of herself that had been missing.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“But death was her curse and her gift, and death had been her good friend these long, long years.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“I bury the king’s opponents where nobody will ever find them.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“The best lies were always mixed with truth.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“And because she was young, and so damn clever and amusing and wonderful, wherever she made her home, there would be some man who would fall in love with her and who would make her his wife, and that would be the worst truth of all. It had snuck up on him, this pain and terror and rage at the thought of anyone else with her. Every look, every word from her... he didn't even know when it had started.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight;

“In every way that counted, I failed him”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“Some things you hear with your ears. Others, you hear with your heart.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“Everyone sounded the same when they died.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“He wouldn't let his servants change the sheets on his bed because they still smelled like her, because he went to sleep dreaming that she was still lying beside him.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“Hide from fate all you like, but it shall soon find you!”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

"Dangerous words," Chaol said. "Do we need to go to the training hall to see if you can back them up?"

"Well, as long as your men don't object to seeing you knocked on your ass."

"We certainly do not object to that," Ress crowed. Chaol shot him a look, more amused than warning. Ress quickly added, "Captain.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“The Crown Prince of Adarlan stared him down. “And consider where your true loyalties lie."

Once, Chaol might have argued. Once, he might have protested that his loyalty to the crown was his greatest asset. But that blind loyalty and obedience had started this descent.

And it had destroyed everything.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“Perhaps the world would never be perfect, perhaps some things would never be right, but maybe she stood a chance of finding her own sort of peace and freedom.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“Let them tremble in fear at what they had awoken”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“To escape death, she'd become death”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“It made her the greatest threat he'd ever encountered.”

― Sarah J. Maas, Crown of Midnight

“He couldn't be dead. Not from the dagger, or those dozen pirates, or from the catapult. No, Sam couldn't be so stupid that he'd get himself killed. She'd... she'd... Well she'd kill him if he was dead.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Pirate Lord

“Let me give you a bit of advice.' the girl said bitterly, 'from one working girl to another; life isn't easy, no matter where you are. You'll make choices you think are right and then suffer for them.' Those remarkable eyes flickered. 'So if you're going to be miserable, you might as well go to Antica and be miserable in the shadow of the Torre Cesme.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Healer

“The girl wore her scars the way some women wore their finest jewelry.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Healer

“The girl was alluring. Like wildfire, or a summer storm swept off the Gulf of Oro.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Healer

“Words could be just as deadly as steel.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it—to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger. But Ansel let her pain become hate, and let it consume her until she became something else entirely—a person I don’t think she ever wished to be”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“Where do men find it in themselves to do such monstrous things?”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“Well, he was certainly desirable-as desirable as Sam, maybe. Sam-when had she ever thought of him as desirable? He'd laugh until he died if ever knew she thought of him like that.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“Hisli's tail flicked to the side as the arrow buried itself in the sand just inches behind her rear hooves. But Ansel didn't dare look over he shoulder. She kept riding, and she did not stop. Celeana lowered her bow and watched until Ansel disappeared beyond the horizon. One arrow, that had been her promise. But she's also promised Ansel that she's had twenty minutes to get out of range.

Celeana had fired after twenty-one.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“I think you will leave a lasting imprint on Ansel's heart. You spared her life, and returned her father's sword. And maybe when she makes her next move to reclaim her title, she will remember the assassin from the North and the kindness you showed her, and try to leave fewer bodies in her wake.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“Who folded their undergarments?”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

“But there are some times when words are necessary - when explanations are needed that mere gestures cannot convey.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Desert

"You'll be fine without me. You always have been."

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“You can't go."

"Give me a reason why I shouldn't."

"Because I'll miss you, damn it!" she hissed, splaying her arms. "Because what's the point in anything if you just disappear forever?"

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

"You said you didn't care what I thought. Or what I did. Or if I died, if I'm not mistaken."

"I lied! And you know I lied you stupid bastard!”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“And from today onward, I want to never be separated from you. Wherever you go, I go. Even if that means going to hell itself, wherever you are, that's where I want to be. Forever.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“My price was his oath that he'd never lay a hand on you again. I told him I'd forgive him in exchange for that."

She wished he'd punched her in the gut. It would have hurt less. Not trusting herself to keep from falling to her knees with shame right there, she just stalked down the hall.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“Well, I care what you think of me. I care enough that I stayed at this disgusting party for you. And I care enough that I'd attend a thousand more like it so I can spend a few hours with you when you aren't looking at me like I'm not worth the dirt beneath your shoes.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“She looked at the exquisite red carpet beneath her feet. Someone had done a splendid job of getting all the blood out.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“It wasn't that she was mad at him for being uninjured. She was so relieved she could have vomited, actually.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

“When we die," she said, "I don't think the gods will even know what to do with us.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

"I hate to admit it, Sam Cortland, but I missed your sorry ass, too.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“She would tuck Sam into her heart, a bright light for her to take out whenever things were darkest.

And then she would remember how it had felt to be loved, when the world held nothing but possibility. No matter what they did to her, they could never take that away.

She would not break.

And someday ... someday, even it took her until her last breath, she'd find out who had done this to her. To Sam.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“His eyes - those silver eyes that would probably haunt her for the rest of her life - were bright.

"No matter what I have done, I really do love you, Celaena."

The word hit her like a stone to the head. He'd never said that word to her before. Ever.

A long silence fell between them.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“The game had been played, and she had lost.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“She didn't want to go out into a world where he didn't exist. So she watched the light shift and change, and let the world pass by without her.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“Now that Sam was dead, there wasn't anything left outside of the dungeons worth fighting for, anyway. Not when Adarlan's Assassin was crumbling apart, and her world with her.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“The world balanced on the edge of a knife, slipping, slipping, slipping.”

― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Empire

“See, that's the problem with getting hit by lightning. You get burned.”

― Jessica Verdi, The Summer I Wasn't Me

“Confidence is ignorance. If you're feeling cocky, it's because there's something you don't know.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“It's like learning to ride a unicorn. You never forget.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“If I win, I'm a prodigy. If I lose, then I'm crazy. That's the way history is written.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“Trust me. I'm a genius.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“Butler could kill you a hundred different ways without use of his armoury. Though I'm sure one would be quite sufficient.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“I don't like lollipops.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“Let us proceed under the assumption that the fairy folk do exist, and that I am not a gibbering moron.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“The problem is that I know the textbook answers to any question you care to ask.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“A genius. A criminal mastermind. A millionaire. And he is only twelve years old.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“Knock yourself out... Or rather, don't.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“I don't suppose you would consider peaceful surrender?”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“Too much damned TV. Thinks he's Sherlock Holmes."

"That's professor Moriarty," corrected Foaly.

"Holmes, Moriarty, they both look the same with the flesh scorched off their skulls.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

"Pardon me for interrupting your extended circus metaphor, but what the hell is that?”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“I don't know why it is, Captain Short, but whenever you start agreeing with me, I get decidedly nervous.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“Good man, Foaly.” He grinned. “Hit that backstabber where it hurts, right in the ambition.”

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl

“No, I don't think you understand just how stupid goblins are. Let me give you an example. One of the B'wa Kell generals, and this is their top fairy, was caught trying to pass off forged credit slips by signing his own name.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Arctic Incident

"To remind you that deep beneath the layers of deviousness, you have a spark of decency. Perhaps you could blow on that spark occasionally."

-Eoin Colfer, The Arctic Incident

“We're being led by an idiot with a crayon.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Arctic Incident

“She forces me to endure this ridiculous therapy when the school's so-called counselors are nothing more than misguided do-gooders with degrees.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Arctic Incident

“If you were me, then I'd be you, and if I were you, then I'd hide somewhere far away.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“I never tell anyone exactly how clever I am. They would be too scared.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“Listen to me, goblin. You're stupid, let's accept that and move on.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“A CD. How quaint. We have these in museums.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“No, mademoiselle, I would not like to see the children's menu. I have no doubt that the children's menu itself tastes better than the meals on it. I would like to order à la carte. Or don't you serve fish to minors?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“When the moment comes, will you take your chance to be a hero?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“Together we will be unstoppable.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“Careful, Mr. Spiro, guns are dangerous. Especially the end with the hole.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“The sarcasm made a slight whistling noise as it flew over Loafers' head.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Eternity Code

“That's the last order I'll ever give you Captain. Don't you dare ignore it.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“Friendship isn't a science mudboy. Just do what you think is right.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“Hilarious, dude. You should, like, have your own show.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“Yes, Chix, it's between us. Everyone has a right to be temporarily unstable.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“My truffles? You took them? That's just mean!”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“Seven and a half hours to save the world. Isn’t there some law that says we get twenty-four?”

“I don't think Opal pays much attention to laws.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“If we make it through this, we will be friends. Bonded by trauma.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Opal Deception

“No matter what dimension you're in, there's a big-headed male trying to take over the world.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“Everyone says that I have no sense of humor, then I construct a perfectly sound pun around a well-known psychological condition, and it is ignored.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“Excuse me, Captain. Are you two going to weep salty tears of admiration over a helmet all night, or do we have matters to discuss?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“A cloak of invisibility? This is a highly sensitive piece of field equipment. What does he think? Some warlock pulled it out of his armpit?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“Holly frowned at her. "Glad to see you've forgiven yourself so quickly."

"Harboring feelings of guilt can have a negative effect on mental health."

"Child geniuses," growled Holly.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“Control puberty?" snorted the bodyguard. “If you manage that, you'll be the first.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“I am older and have more control over my empathy,' said Qwan. 'That's why I didn't throw up.' And having said that, he threw up.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“You know as well as I do that fortune never sends the best-case scenario our way. You have way too much bad karma.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Lost Colony

“Who are you?" he asked.

I am the future queen of this world, at the very least. You may refer to me as Mistress Koboi for the next five minutes. After that you may refer to me as Aaaaarrrrgh, hold your throat, die screaming, and so on.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“Artemis felt like he was six again and caught hacking the school computers trying to make the test questions harder”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“I bet," said Mulch, "that you would set the world on fire just to watch it burn.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“I am charging you with the protection of my mother and friends, not to mention keeping my younger self off the Internet. He is as dangerous as Opal.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“Ah, yes, the trusty time paradox. If I go back in time and kill my grandfather, then shall I cease to exist? I believe, as Gorben and Berndt did, that any repercussions are already being felt. We can only change the future, not the past or present. If I go back, then I have already been back.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“Genius inspires resentment. A sad fact of life.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“Are you suggesting I occasionally stray from the rule book?”

“No. I'm suggesting you do not own a copy of the rule book, and if you do, you have certainly never opened it.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“Holly, how did you find me?

“Oh, I saw a huge explosion and wondered: now, who could that be?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Time Paradox

“Can we please focus? We are supposed to be professionals." Holly said.

"Not me!" said Orion cheerily, "I'm just a Teenager with hormones running wild and may I say, young fairy lady, they're running wild in your direction.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Look!" said Foaly, pointing with some urgency into the vast steel-gray gloom, "Someone who cares!”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Oh, I'm crazy all right. I do have plenty of psychoses. Multiple personality, delusional dementia, OCD. I've got them all, but most of all, I'm crazy about you.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“I feel a little dizzy," said Orion. "But also wonderfully elated. I feel that I am on the verge of finding a rhyme for the word orange."

"Oxygen deprivation," said Foaly. "Or maybe it's just him.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Quickly, Holly," said Artemis urgently. "Follow those bubbles."

Holly opened the throttle. "Now there's an order I never thought I'd hear from you.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

"Navy rules, Butler. You're on my boat, you follow my orders."

"As I remember, I brought the boat."

"Yes, thanks for bringing my boat.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

"Foaly is singing," said Holly. "Surely that's illegal?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Are you saying that you people knew about these amorophobots all the time?"

"Of course we did. They attacked us in Iceland. Remember?"

"No. I was unconscious.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Is that how you're going to take me? Scare me into voluntarily coming aboard, then steal my Ice Cube?"

"It's always cubes with you," noted Foaly, somewhat randomly. "What's wrong with a nice sphere?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“I'm the nut!”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Vinyaya was being openly antagonistic, and that was an emotion that could be trusted, unless of course it was a bluff and the commander was a secret fan of his, unless it was a double bluff and she really did feel antagonistic.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“I am not exuding anything," said Holly through gritted teeth.

Orion tapped her shoulder. "I beg to differ. You're exuding right now, a wonderful aura. It's pastel blue with little dolphins.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Orion nodded, then asked, “Dwarf cheese?”

“Cheese made by dwarfs.”

“Oh,” said Orion, relieved. “They make it. It’s not actually . . .”

“No. What a horrible thought.”

“Exactly.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“One loose rivet or cracked weld line would have been enough to allow a few atmospheres to squirt out, and the ship would have been crushed like a soda can in the hand of a giant who was immensely strong and didn’t like soda cans.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Atlantis Complex

“Either that boy is the sanest creature on Earth, he thought, or he is so disturbed that our tests cannot even begin to scratch the surface.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“I want you to know, my dear friend, that without you, I would not be the person I am today." He leaned in close and whispered, "I was a broken boy, and you fixed me. Thank you.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“Onscreen, Foaly rubbed his eyelids with his index fingers.

"Yeah, yeah. Here we go. Captain Short goes rogue once more. Hands up who's surprised. Anyone?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“You don't understand!' Foaly objected.

Trouble cut him off with a chop of his hand through the air. 'I never understand. That's why we pay you and your dork posse."

Foaly objected again. 'They are not dorks!'

Trouble found space for yet another holster. 'Really? That guy brings a Beanie Baby to work every day. And your nephew, Mayne, speaks fluent Unicorn.'

'They're not all dorks,' said Foaly, correcting himself.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“Holly clambered after him, struggling up the human-size steps.

"Wait! Just wait," she called, overtaking Artemis and looking him in the eye from one step up. "I know you, Artemis. You like to play your genius card close to your chest until the big reveal. And that's worked out for us so far. But this time you need to let me in. I can help. So, tell me the truth, do you have a plan?"

Artemis met his friend's gaze and lied to her face.

"No," he said. "No plan.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“Artemis Fowl will never be secondary."

"I thought you were Artemis Fowl the Second?" said Holly.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“Ignorance, as they say, is usually fatal, but sometimes it can be bliss.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“Artemis looked at Holly and felt a tremendous affection for her... he could properly appreciate how fierce and beautiful his best friend was...

She is truly magical, thought Artemis. Perhaps her qualities are more obvious to me now that I have decided to sacrifice myself.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“I feel like Alice falling into Wonderland.

A line came to him: It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

"Yeah," agreed Foaly, who always had time to feel insulted. "Why am I an imbecile?”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“That, as my cousin Nord would say, is where my improvised lie falls apart.”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“This might hurt a little is universal code for this will definitely hurt a lot”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

“Perhaps we can win, he thought. But there will be no happy ending”

-Eoin Colfer, The Last Guardian

Some stupid, badly worded advice from yours truly.

  • Be yourself, no one else will do it for you

  • The world keeps rolling on, long after you want it to stop.

  • The only reason people call themselves stupid, or mean, or anything else, is for an excuse to act that way.

  • Quiet people are dangerous, even if it doesn't seem like they're listening, they are, and will use any overheard secrets as blackmail at first opportunity.

  • The past hurts, the present hurts, but the future is full of possibility.

  • Any hero is the losing side's greatest villain.

  • The worst part of life is that you've got to keep on living.

  • Unrealized potential can be the most dangerous weapon.

  • The craziest people are the smartest. Normal people can't think outside the box, much less destroy it.

  • The higher the climb, the more you have to fall.

  • We dislike characters that are the most human because we see our flaws in them.

  • Life isn't worth living, if you don't make it so.

  • Don't wish for dreams, nightmares could come instead.

  • There's a line between bravery and stupidity, erase it.

  • No one can hurt you unless you let them. The only reason love hurts is because we only allow those we love to hurt us.

  • Sometimes, you might wonder if anyone cares, remember that you care and that should be enough.

  • There's a difference between confidence and arrogance.

  • It doesn't matter if the glass is half-full or half-empty, just drink the freaking water already!

  • Sometimes, occasionally, someday, you will be happy.

  • There's a huge difference between being alive and living. Anyone can be alive. It takes a someone to start living.

  • Never under estimate the power of a shopping spree and a bag of jellybeans.

  • Hope is a form of wisdom. It is being wise enough to know that no horrible thing can last forever.

  • Never forget to appreciate silence.

  • Give advice you can never follow, start projects you'll never finish, and remember to live life to the fullest without getting washed up in the rush of life.

  • Growing up will always feel like your world is falling apart, but really it's opening your eyes and realizing it's always been broken.

  • Fix yourself before you try to fix anybody else.

  • If you’re always looking over your shoulder, you’ll trip over the road in front of you.
