Author has written 29 stories for Castle, and Firefly.
I had 32 years of writer's block between about 1980 and 2012. I wrote letters, I wrote emails, the occasional poem, the occasional online rant or argument, 3 songs, & 3 short stories. But all the other fiction I had in my head just sat there because I was afraid to let it out. Then one day I heard Mal Reynolds' voice in my head, saying something I had never heard before. I started writing again, & I didn't want to stop. Now I write a little fic every day, even if it's just in my head, working out the details. But the more I write, the more the floodgates open. There have been SO many surprises. I don't really know where they come from.
As 'Richard Castle' said on 'his' web site - now deleted in ABC's infinite wisdom:
"I don’t believe in writer’s block. I believe in writer’s embarrassment. That’s when you’re so embarrassed by the horrendous drivel you’re writing that you can’t bear to see it on the page. After all, you can always write something. I’ve discovered that giving yourself permission to write poorly is the gateway to writing well. It may not be good, it may not make sense, but that’s okay. After enough pages of meaningless drivel, your brain will uncover something interesting, and before you know it, you’re off and writing again.
I’ve also discovered that writing about why you can’t write allows you to discover what’s holding you back. Once you know what’s holding you back, you can face the problem and solve it.
Also, as Nathan Fillion says, "It costs nothing to say something kind. Even less to shut up altogether."
I miss Castle and all its characters terribly and hope that, someday, everything will be smoothed over and there'll be a fabulous reunion miniseries or movie. And we will all pick it to tiny pieces and reassemble it again in a completely different way.
Until then, I remain ever your humble servant.
