Author has written 9 stories for Stargate: SG-1, and Star Wars.
"My name is Pokey1984 although sometimes people refer to me as Diane. I am female, a redhead, and a huge scifi fan. My idea of a perfect afternoon is sitting outside with my cd player and a really good book. My fanfic interests are varied and random. I read a lot of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Buffy, Stargate mostly. I would read more in the other fandoms I like if there was more available."
The above paragraph has started my profiles pretty much since I started here, so I'm keeping it even as I give you all something a little (but not much) more useful.
It's been a few (3, almost to the day!) years and I'm due for a profile update, I suppose. I'm going to try to make this one last a while 'cause I hate doing this part. I was born in 1984, you do the math to see how old that makes me. (see, I'm cheating, now I don't ever have to update that part to say how old I am!) I'm female, a redhead, a farmgirl, and a voracious reader. Obsessive, compulsive, I will literally read anything and everything I can get my hands on. I love the internet for that. I get to read so much, on so many topics, from so many sources... *sigh*
Sorry, I'm back. I try not to let that happen to me in mixed company.
I'm still doing the school thing, will be graduating with honors in May of 2014 if Obama doesn't cut off my funding. Because people ask me, my major is "Organizational Communications with a minor in Business." If you're reading this after May 2014, that's what my bachelor's degree is in.
I'm married to a wonderfully understanding man (he lets me read fanfic any time he's not home or sleeping as long as the computer is off when he's around. Our marriage counselor thinks this is a grand idea and is implementing it with her own spouse... ;-D ) who is actually kind of interested in fanfic. So... if you know any good "beginner friendly" fanfics, message me. I make no promises about responding, but I'd really appreciate it. I'll even beta your own fics in exchange for a good rec. ("good" being the operative word, rec something with textspeak and you get the anvil treatment before I block you on principle)
Okay, everything after this is from my old profile with the exception of the parts in parentheses, those are updates. The rest is still accurate, so I figure, why change it?
I (not so) recently suffered a major loss in the form hard drive failure. My backup drive failed while I was in the process of formatting my computer. Consequently, everything I have written in the last decade and a half is lost. All my works in progress, all my snippets, everything I didn't think was good enough to post, it's all gone. It's been very hard for me and I'm finding it difficult to get back into the swing of writing.
In the past few months, (make that years now) I've been trying to turn my energies toward my original ideas. It's always been a dream of mine to write something and have it published, but fanfiction was always easier. Without that distraction, I'm hoping to make some progress.
I've written a few stories and I've been told a couple of them are readable. Several of my stories haven't been updated in a while, but I haven't abandoned them completely, as evidenced by my (no longer) recent update of Burden of Choice. I will finish most of them, eventually. Please, let me know what you think and feel free to e-mail me anytime. :) (My email is my username at Gmail, feel free to use it, it really is the best way to reach me. I check it more often than my phone.)
By the way, did I introduce y'all to my friendly muse? His name is Fred and he is responsible for all my Star Wars stories. He left a while back, but he's back and complaining about his sunburn, so I might actually have to write something and shut him up. If something isn't satisfactory, blame Fred, it's his fault.
9-21-2006: As everyone knows, I haven't updated my Stargate SG-1story From Another World in a ridiculously long time. The story was badly planned and poorly written and I've more or less given up on it at this time. Someday, I hope to finish it, if only for me, but that day seems to be far in the future.
In the meantime, Michael Palmer ( mpalmer89 user number 1074951) has asked for and received permission to continue the story. He's got some really interesting ideas and I am greatly looking forward to seeing what he does with it. Just to keep things clear, he won't be using any of my work except what's been posted here. Other than tossing some ideas back and forth, I have had nothing to do with his continuation of this story (which is probably a good thing, considering the mess I made out of the beginning.) He does, however, have my full permission, cooperation, and support.
Please, if you've liked the story so far, take a look at his work. I've put the story in my favorites and listed Michael's user id above.
