Author has written 32 stories for Misc. Plays/Musicals, Harry Potter, Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Rurouni Kenshin, House, M.D., Criminal Minds, and Les Miserables.
Hey everyone, my name is Katie. I'm 25 and am a Librarian in Washington, D.C. I got my undergrad degree in English with a minor in Creative Writing, and I want to be a writer more than almost anything in the world, and although a lot of my time now is devoted to original writing (working on a memoir!), I still have a blast writing fanfics, and will continue to do so because I just have way too much fun writing them.
Phantom of the Opera: Let me just say that I am a firm Raoul/Christine supporter( I cannot express how much I love this!) I adore Raoul and Christine because I believe that they truly loved each other, and were destined to be together since childhood. Their relationship matured of course, and I do believe they were soulmates. As Leroux says, they had the same "calm and dreamy little cast of mind." I can't stand stories that bash Raoul. It just makes me crazy. I mean he's a sweet, generous, passionate, and brave man who would do ANYTHING for the woman he loves. What on earth is there to bash? He's a romantic hero, not a villain. For that matter, I don't like stories that bash Christine, Erik, or any other PoTO character. There's way too much of that in this fandom. Don't get me wrong, I feel AWFUL for Erik. Who wouldn't? He's had an incredibly rough life, poor guy. But I do think he perhaps needs to experience some other kinds of love, like friendship or familial love, before he could really get involved in a romance. I've read some very good Erik/OC stories (set in the ALW storyline mostly), that understand that Erik isn't just going to jump into a relationship right away; they develop the relationship slowly, realistically, and not without it's poblems. Give the man some time. He's been a recluse for years, and needs to adust. I usually like to think that Madame Giry could help with this, and enjoy fics that portray their friendship. I think Madame is capable of being there for both Erik and Raoul and Christine. I've read some good E/M fics, but they have to be really good for me to enjoy them. I love Meg, but I always thought her a little too sunny to be a match for Erik. She's fascinated by his legend, but I don't know if that can equate to romance. But I'm always willing to give it a try. Some writers do it well.
On the subject of Phantom, I'm terribly upset by the travesty that is Love Never Dies. I understand that some people like it, which is totally fine. But I just can't believe what ALW did to his characters. None of them even resemble the originals. Christine is suddenly unfaithful and terribly wishy-washy, Erik isn't the least bit mysterious or intimdating, and abandons his genius to compose vaudeville, Madame Giry is practically evil, sweet, sunny Meg is suddenly off her rocker, and Raoul...oh poor Raoul. How did the writers manage to turn him from a sweet, gentle, brave young noble who sang "All I Ask of You" into an abusive drunkard? It just doesn't make sense. ALW really did him wrong. It's like ALW picked all the worst Phantom fanfictions and combined them. Neither the original ALW Phantom or Gaston Leroux's Erik would have gone to live in Coney Island, and certainly wouldn't have started a freak show. Ugh. I do believe I'll just stick with the beautiful ending of the original show, thanks very much. Way to throw Erik's sacrifice out the window, Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Harry Potter: Pairings- Ron/ Hermione, Harry/ Ginny, Lilly/ James. I have to say though, my favorite stories to read in this fandom are Trio friendship stories, which I feel is the heart of the entire series. The friendship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione is truly spectacular. I've been reading this books since I was 11, so the fandom means a great deal to me.
Lord of the Rings: Pairings- Arwen/ Aragorn, Legolas/ OC. I also love friendship stories in this fandom, especially between Frodo and Sam, Legolas and Gimli, and just the whole fellowship in general.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Pairings- Will/Elizabeth, Jack/Ana. Captain Jack is fantastic and hilarious, but he does not belong with Elizabeth. No questions asked. Besides, I think Will, Elizabeth, and Jack make a great trio of friends. And Jack gave up his immortality for Will, so that he would at least have a chance to be with Elizabeth again someday, instead of being parted from her by death. That's huge. Will and Elizabeth have been in love since they were twelve and first set eyes on one another, and that says a lot. I am also a firm believer that the Flying Dutchman curse is broken after ten years, and Will and Elizabeth are free to be together with cute little William the III. And I really think Jack and Ana Maria would be great together, if Jack ever decided to stick with one woman. I wish they'd included her in the other two movies in the triology. Jack is great on his own, though, along with the Pearl.
RENT: Pairings- Mimi/Roger, Mark/OC. This show/film swept me completely off my feet, and I think it's a terrible tragedy that Jonathan Larson isn't around to write anymore life-changing musicals.
Rurouni Kenshin: Pairings- Kenshin/Kaoru (Of course!!) Aoshi/Misao, Yahiko/Tsubame, and on occasion if well written, Sano/Megumi
HOUSE, M.D.: I fell in love with this show a couple of years ago , and just can't get enough of it. I watched it on and off with a friend at the start of season 6, then started watching the reruns on USA and BRAVO, and so the obsession began. Now I am so in love with it that I've managed to get all the seasons on DVD. I think House himself is an AMAZING character, and he never ceases to send me into fits of laughter. I'm also very much in love with Robert Chase's character, and I was also fond of Allison Cameron. I loved Chase from the start, but ever since I first saw "Cursed" and "Damned if Do" I found his character absolutely intriuging. He continues to be an exceedingly interesting and three-dimensional character. I do love all the characters, but these three are my favorites. I am a ferevent Chase/Cameron shipper, and also have soft spot for House/Cuddy. I also love looking into the almost father/son relationship between House and Chase, and also adore House's friendship with Wilson.
Criminal Minds: Dr. Reid, anyone? Because I'm pretty sure he's one of the most phenomenal characters to ever hit television. I adore each and every one of the BAU family members, and the show is just brilliant. I love the crime/profiling aspect of it as well as the family dynamic between all the characters.
Les Miserables: ALL THE FEELS. For the book, the stage show, the movie. I can't even coherently say how much I love this incredible fandom. I'm in love with Les Amis and also crazy over Cosette, Valjean, and Javert. Let's be honest, I just love all of the characters. I squee and cry a lot over the friendship between Enjolras, Combeferre, and Courfeyrac (Power Trio for the win!). This story though, it's about the power of all different kinds of love: familial, friendship, romantic, passionate love of country and of humankind, and how essential they all are. It's about fighting for a better world, believing in that with your whole heart, and I think that's the most phenomenal thing.
