Not obligatory as a couple due to age gap but at least as pairing (incl. the triangle with Fong, thanks Amano for the Secret Bullet story & the square with Alaude, thanks the Inheritance Arc in the anime).

Fem!Saniwa x All cause all spirits love their sage and, even if no official gender for the sword-spirits, I don't like giving a sexuality to the characters just for yaoi sake (see below about yaoi)

UraMida Urashima x Midare * cause Midare is seriously the prettiest girly-looking sword-spirit, to the point we don't really know (they're spirits in human shape after all, so no clue about their bodies) and Urashima's semi-canon crush on Midare is too cute and innocent to ignore it (let's add Ichigo as the best big-bro-cockblock ever). BTW, nothing adultish for this pairing, just the cute crush at some five-year-old level.

o0O YAOI IN NON-YAOI FANDOMS O0o

Yaoi = male characters ending up in some sexual/sexual-tension/tragic-relationship-involving-sex for fangirl-service purpose.
Different from Gay-Romance (Shounen-Ai in Japanese).
Non-Yaoi Fandoms = the author/artist themselves didn't pick Shounen-Ai/Yaoi as one of their themes and their male characters aren't related to the above.

Slash has its charm and all (not my things but y'know, it's a genre with great authors for it and all) but seriously, when 80% fanfics in a regular fandom become yaoi, it's trouble to find a canon-based story. Sure sure, every fan their fan-pairing, from crack to AU-personalities, but the overdose is killing it. Also, it's annoying and cliche to throw good-looking guys together in a sexual relationship just 'cause it pleases fangirls'. There are some scenario/ICness rules for every pairings, and yaoi-written-by-fangirls ditches them too often.

Love bromance, friendship & platonic love though, cause fans often underestimate the strength of non-physical relationship between male characters, especially in sports or war stories. Do you have some friends you value more than your boy/girlfriend? How about your family? If yes, think 'bromance' in a new light.

o0O OCs O0o

Bit puzzled with FFN concept of OCs as IRL people-based characters entering the fandom...
See below how I treat OCs cause some people asked about Saniwa.

Fanfics often need developing under-utilized characters in canon and also invented characters to fill-up the roles of antagonists, allies, etc. I like this kind of characters and they're really needed (like Saniwa is the 'player' in Tourabu, Konnosuke and Chibi Smith also have personnalities that we don't see much in the game).
And then you have many writing challenges asking for some specific OCs around another character from canon like 'Taking suggestions for the wife/grand-parents/child/first-love/master of this character' (you can check Naver and Korean fandoms for them a lot). I also like this kind of writing challenge even if I haven't written some yet.

Then there's the point of a story being OC-centric or not. In regular fandoms, I don't really like forgetting the canon characters for another character instead, cause if I like the fandom, then I like the canon characters the best! But for some fandoms, it's possible and encouraged to make OC-centric, like Video Games or Otome/Dating Games. For this type, X-reader fanfics or with overshadowed leading character are easy-to-read and fresh, so I like to write fanfics like that.

Western-style self-projected OCs are different thing. Not sure people like to read about stories that only involve yourself and they can't relate to the character. If self-projected OCs are the majority in a fandom it's easy to understand why readers rant about it, cause if you want to roleplay, do it in private with your friends.

But for me, reincarnated OCs are the big problem, cause it's very disrespectful for the canon work (if you want an AU, or Dark!Hero or OOC Parody, I think no need to have yourself reincarnated in the fandom). So if really about "you", and you even kick out another character for it, it's like saying "I'm worth so much better than this bad chara". Guess what, if I like the original canon characters and respect the mangaka hard work, then I think you're arrogant and disrespectful.

BTW, AU and crossgender and OOC too make it difficult to find good canon fics, so don't sweat it only over OCs, I think. Everyone their imagination it's cool and all, but please pay respect to the hardwork of the original author/mangaka n(_ _)n
