How I got sucked into the rabbit-hole that is fanfiction

I actually got into fanfiction through Ranma 1/2. Not on this site, but through the old Ranma wiki when I was in high school. I read some really good stuff, and there were a few stories that have actually stuck with me. (I still re-read Genma's Daughter every few months). But it eventually gave way to school and other things like manga (including Naruto). About four years passed, I graduated and went off to college. I still read things, but not nearly as often until last year, when a friend of mine who minored in philosophy got me to read Methods of Rationality. And... I was hooked. I tore through all of the HP fics I could find, and then eventually started expanding into Naruto and other 'verses.

I've always loved writing for fun, but never even considered fanfiction a viable option until I kept getting ideas I couldn't get out of my head. Like "What if X met Y?" or "If this tiny event changed, how would it affect things?" or even wilder things, like what's in The Eternal Torment, actually taking a minor character and molding them into major character material.

I started writing stuff down, just little notes and things... until one of those notes got to be 5400 words.

And that's how Torment got started.
