Author has written 13 stories for Gunsmoke.
I'm a recently retired non-fiction writer (computer manuals mostly) and forensic accountant. The only fanfic that I wrote before these Gunsmoke stories were some Star Trek stories back when we published them in mimeo. My family were pioneers in Nevada right after the Civil War, and my grandmother and her older sister were born there in 1876 and 1888 - both lived to over a hundred. I remember my great-aunt, after a lifetime on the frontier, telling us kids "I never knew a cowboy who wasn't a gentleman." Of course, I'm sure her interaction with these gentlemen was somewhat different from how they behaved in a saloon, but I've always remembered that line and taken it to heart.
Some of you have asked more about my family. My grandmother's father was a judge in Nevada in the last couple decades of the 1800s. He rode circuit, and also sat a bench in Reno. Before he was appointed judge, he was a gold miner, ran a mercantile, edited a newspaper, read law, and served as an attorney. He did all those things while my great-grandmother 'waited' for him back east in Maryland for ten years. She was in her mid-thirties when he finally came for her, married her, and brought her back to live on the frontier in Winnemucca. She had seven children, and my grandmother, the last, was born when she was in her mid-40s. I grew up on stories and songs of the West and what it was like to be a pioneer. I try to share some of that in what I write.
Now as to my attitude towards flaming - I don't like it, but I'm a big girl, and, as I said, a professional writer. My ego's pretty flexible. Please don't any of you think you need to defend me against a negative comment. Believe me, when you've lived for years with critics who can hold a paycheck over your head, the sniping little comments that occasionally come through on this board seem pretty trivial. I would ask those who enjoy my work to simply refrain from rising to the bait of commenting on others' reviews. It's great to talk about the story, or the writing, but I would consider it a favor if you left negative comments alone and didn't carp at each other. I thank you sincerely.
