Author has written 35 stories for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, King Arthur, Kingdom of Heaven, Desperate Housewives, Superman, and Will and Grace. READ THIS ALL SERIOUS WRITERS AND THOSE WHO APPRECIATE WELL WRITTEN FANFICTION: As I was browsing leisurely, as is my wont, for even greater, more originally written, and imaginative fanfiction, I stumbled across one of what I am sure has been read by the majority of those who use this site: that is, an 'Anti-Potter-Porn' manifesto. Now, JK Rowling has been quoted as saying that she feels that Harry Potter fanfiction written by true fans, well written, for the sheer love of creative writing and sharing talents, and for no financial gain, without trying to pass the books off or their characters, as our own, is acceptable and in some cases flattering. Smart Lady. I as a writer am frankly appalled and disgusted that there are some critics of fanfiction (and not only limited to Harry Potter fics) who would condemn aspiring writers, who have been inspired to literature by great authors, weavers of dreams and compelling fictional worlds, under the banner of such insulting titles as 'potter porn' without truly having read any great amount of the truly fantastic fanfiction work that is out there. I am not going to pretend to be any great writer, but what I write I write carefully, and spend time devising, and I like to think that my work is the best I can make it, and that in particular my slash fiction (a genre which generally comes under most critical attack) is more believeable in a world of changing sexual ideals, rather than simply 'porny'. What do you think? As writers we must unite against such horrid backlash and show our talents for what they are: TALENT. To all you 'Anti-Fanfic' critics, I say: "NO MORE!" Please give my stuff a little read-n-review, and may I recommend all the fics in my faves because I vet this area very carefully, and re-read the whole lot to siphon off ones I've got bored of on a 6 month basis -they have passed a lot of tests to get to the hallowed positions they are in now! Do not hesitate to email me if you'd like me to look at something you've written. love, skinnyrita (promoter of too-many-painful-looking-shoes syndrone.) Author Note re. discontinued fiction: I would like to let readers know that my fic 'Flying the Nest' will not be updated. It was the first piece I ever started writing on this site, and remains for nostalgic reasons. You may find it interesting to look at and compare the unpolished writing style with some of my more recent work. I am also still partway through 'Crocodiles' but may take it down and rework it as I have hit a mental block with it. I know what I want to happen, but that won't be possible without further attention. If you think it's worth saving, let me know. Note: Will people please stop asking me to put 'warnings' on my fics. I apologise to people who get upset at authors for not putting things like 'deathfic' on their work, but I will not be swayed on this. I would hate to buy a real book that told me on the cover that one of the characters was going to pop his clogs at some point. Half the intrigue of the plot would have been eliminated in one fell swoop, I would be waiting for it and know in the back of my head that at some point it was coming... no. I'm sorry, but fanfiction should be given the same respect as published literature, it is appalling to ask for ANY type of warning. |
