![]() Author has written 17 stories for Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and Californication. I was an avid reader of X-Files fanfiction when the series was on the air, and had seriously considered writing some before the last two seasons, career, and eventually motherhood intervened. Then, a few months ago, some friends and I were discussing favourite TV shows from the 80s that we would want to binge watch on Netflix, and I mentioned Scarecrow and Mrs. King, which I'd been obsessed with during my impressionable mid-teenaged years. 88 episodes later (October 2014, I barely knew you) and I found my way back to fanfiction, this time for SMK. Watching the series as an adult, I realized that there were two things that really bothered me about what was otherwise a great show: the domestication of Lee Stetson somewhere partway through Season 3, and the uneven character development of Amanda throughout the whole series. Why did Lee have to start wearing check shirts when he fell in love with Amanda? Why can't Amanda be a caring mother and a kick-ass agent? These are the sorts of questions that finally led me to write my first fanfiction. Incidentally, while I try to remain true to the atmosphere and timeframe of the show, my stories live in a universe where profanity and sexual scenes would be permitted on television. I think of it as Scarecrow and Mrs. King if it had aired on Showtime (as Showtime existed in the 90s and 00s), instead of CBS. |
