Dwalin is a stupid kind of drunk. He rarely gets completely sloshed, but a couple of beers can loosen his tongue to say things he doesn't want to. Does the poor lass who serves him deserve his ire? Unprobable. Does she deserve his apology and his attempts at friendly behavior? She seems nice, but Dwalin would take on the dragon instead, thankyouverymuch.

After the life she knew was destroyed, Rue, a nymph of the East, crosses paths with the company of Thorin Oakenshield. The company allows her to travel with them, but there may be a problem: they believe she is a young boy. Will they let her stay when they find out? And if she does stay...what will happen then? (slow building romance)

Post-LOTR AU! Prince Kili heads for the Blue Mountains to become their King, but first he must get past the pain and suffering of another Durin's Day. He struggles to balance duty to his father's people with his need to protect his beloved Nÿr and their unborn child, and on top of that, the ravens are unsettled: there's an unknown Ravenspeaker in the wilds trying to reach him.

As a firm fan of all things Tolkien, I've noticed some disturbing trends in fan fiction lately. Here's what they are, and why they bother me.

Once more the world approaches the end of an Age...and Darkness seeks to claim the Age to come. Gandalf must reawaken the souls of the past in order to prevent the final destruction of all they fought to save in a time beyond legend, beyond myth...in a time when Men were but one Race among many. (AN: Yes, I cheated on all the last names! Future story in "A Safe Haven" universe!)

When danger comes to the Shire on the wind of frost, Bilbo must seek refuge for himself and those he has rescued. Fortunately the Shire is not the only place to promise him haven. A fix-it is included because...yeah...see the note.

He is dressed in regal armour that doesn't fit the image she used to have of him. He looks like a prince now, and a prince he was supposed to be, but she will always remember how he looked in those weathered clothes when they first met. - Funeral scene, mini on-shot.

Thorin was 196 when he died at the Battle of the Five Armies. His story was a long one full of joy along with grief. He was born in the prosperity of Erebor and given a brother and sister; He became a warrior and a leader. We know how he died now learn how he lived; before he was a king he was just a dwarfling.

One-shot — Dáin refuses the throne of Erebor. Balin faces the uncomfortable reality of becoming ruler of a broken kingdom that was never meant to be his.

Sequel to my previous story, "The Duty of an Heir", which definitely should be read beforehand for maximum understanding of this story. When Thorin Oakenshield departs after a long and successful rule, his heir is left to pick up the pieces. Will Fili fall to the dragon-sickness, like his ancestors before him? Or is there something in him that will keep him safe?

Kíli would never have pushed him away before. Before, he would have accepted his brother's helping hand, he might have huffed, but he would have let Fíli help him because that was just what they both knew Fíli needed to do. Fili, Kili, and Tauriel all survive the Battle of Five Armies, and they all live happily ever after. But happy endings don't always come easily, and it seems that the only two people in Middle-Earth who like the idea of an elf and a dwarf being married are the elf and the dwarf. Kiliel AU with a fair amount of Fili and Kili brotherly love thrown in for good measure.

Kili has had enough of Bilbo's not-so-subtle staring at the Company when they stop to rest and confronts him about it. Light-hearted. Company!Bonding. Confused!Bilbo

The dwarves find a wounded warrior while on the run from warg riders. Thorin struggles with a powerful attraction that she doesn't return and asks her to join the quest in order to change her mind. However, he faces rivals when Bard and Legolas enter the picture, and obsession takes over. Many chapters rewritten. [Thorin, OC] [Bard, OC] [Legolas, OC].

"We promised we'd be safe, another lie from the front lines..." Fix-it!Fic about how things could have gone differently for Fíli and Kíli, written as a series of drabbles based on the song "Mars" by Sleeping at Last.

'A dwarf on a horse, now there is a sight to see. I'll tell you what my lad, if your cousin can beat me in a race I'll give him some work and you as well.' Dis turned, faint horror bubbling in her belly. How was she going to explain this to Dwalin and Thorin?

Kíli is confined to Erebor in the aftermath of the journey from Ered Luin, training with the other members of the Oath of Belhel to use their power to the fullest. Fíli prepares Erebor for Melkor's imminent attack; while Ryn must make her way to Fjallstadr in search of the legendary Starstone, which may be Kíli's only hope to resist The Dark Vala's influence...

"Of the twelve companions of Thorin, ten remained. Fili and Kili had fallen defending him with shield and body, for he was their mother's elder brother."

Fíli and Kíli have come to the end of their journey. Tomorrow they will go to war. - Just a mini (very mini) fic about a brotherly moment of my two favourite dwarves.

ONESHOT. Bilbo remembers the day he'd been asked who Thorin Oakenshield was. He remembered, how when the great king died, he'd never said goodbye. It made him think, of how he hadn't felt the need to say goodbye. But now...if only he'd just once more to see his friend-his brother.

At the brink of death, Sergeant Talya "Tal" Conner is brought to Middle-Earth by Gandalf the Grey. With the knowledge of how the quest ends, can she change the fortune of those fated to die? Strong Language, some adult situations. Thorin/OC

After his parents' funeral Thoren, son of Thorin, comes across a leather-bound journal in their old rooms. As he opens it he finds himself facing their story: There and Never Back Again... Eventually Thorin/OC.

Dori had asked himself it all of this had been worth it. Seeing his little brother like this, sitting with his back to the closed door that stood between them and the other side of the crypt, an open book in his lap and vacant eyes staring at the opposite wall, he thought that it had not. - Dori takes care of Ori after the funeral. One-shot.

While in Rivendell the company discovers Kili's hidden talent. Set in the Unexpected Journey

Fourteen years after the War of the Ring, Erebor is at peace under the able rule of its princes, and Thorin Oakenshield, Lord Durin Returned, prepares to retake the ancient kingdom of Moria, but there are fouler things then orcs and goblins waiting in the dark... NO SLASH - Does contain Violence (its a war!), so rated M to be safe.

Fili and Kili are not forgotten in the evening light.

In the years since Bilbo left Erebor, he has lost his respectability, gained a nephew, and gotten on with life at Bag End. He'd left aside adventure for the comforts and peace of his little Hobbit hole, and for the love of a child who needed him. Though perhaps, adventures can yet find him.

When Dís needs some time alone with her newborn, Thorin takes Fíli to the toyshop. This one-shot tells the story of an event mentioned in "Choices", but can be read without knowing that one. Durin family fluff, a bit of h/c, a bit of humour, K rated.

Sequel to Scars of Dragonfire. In the wake of the Battle of Five Armies, Thranduil thinks...and grieves. And finds an unexpected solace.

Thorin's agony. Or is it? An attempt at a fix-it story, hopefully within canon, and yes you read this well. One-shot, gen, Thorin centric.

A hunting trip goes wrong, and suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted. The Blue Mountains are not as safe as we thought.

Time goes on as it always has, seasons change, kingdoms rise and fall. For some the end of the war brings about a new era of peace and joy, but for one the looming shadow of eternity is a dark road even in these happy times. Is this all that is left for a broken hearted Elf or will fate be kind?

"You belong with your brother," Dwalin whispers, and it's these five words that strike the final blow to his already battered heart. - A missing moment for BOFA. Spoiler, obviously, so please look inside for more information. One-shot.

"Do you see it?" Nuil asked pointing to the stars. Thorin watched her hand, tracing the outline of a ring of stars. "My father called it the 'mountain crown', abad bovan. He saw it over Erebor. He called it fate. A right to rule" Thorin watched her eyes gleam with old memories. "I do not condemn your quest, Thorin, but I am wary of the fate you will meet," she whispered.

After the battle of Azanulbizar, the remnants of Durin's Folk settled in Ered Luin, and laboured hard to build a new life there. But one day, Riders from the south came looking for skilled stonemasons. The Orcs, driven from the Misty Mountains, were now raiding Rohan; and the Hornburg, the refuge of the Eorlingas, was crumbling. Thorin and his companions set out with the Riders...

With Dis away for the day, it's up to Thorin to look after Fíli and Kíli. Of course, things are bound to go awry. Durin family fluff, NO SPOILERS for BOFA. One-shot.

A short romantic story of how a girl carries in her heart a promise of love given to her by a stranger years ago, and how that very heart will save a dying King. [Thorin x OC] Story grew out of a reader's prompt for my other story "First Time, Every Time" and features my usual OC, Wren as a beloved for the King Under the Mountain.

The War of the Last Alliance decimated the Elven peoples. Thranduil had lost everyone he ever cared about to Sauron's darkness. "And just when he had felled the last orc, the screaming and yelling stopped. He strained his ears, but all he could hear was a shuffling noise, like that of a body being dragged across the stone." My two missing minutes of the BOFA movie. (Unoriginal title, uninformative summary - but seriously, I don't want to spoil anything.) Major spoilers for the BOFA movie inside! One-shot.

A thousand years since the Battle of Five Armies, the Dwarves of Middle Earth are a fading race. Subservient to Men, they scarcely remember the legends of Dwarven greatness, or the prayers of their ancestors. But things are stirring in Erelin, last city of the Dwarves, and a young Dwarf with memories of lives he has never lived is on a desperate hunt for what has been lost.

The Sequel to 'An Unexpected Journey.' Follow Thorin and Hayden after the Quest for Erebor, as they begin their lives together under the Lonely Mountain. But with meddlesome dwarves at every turn, elves on their doorstep and a growing threat in the south, who's to say their adventure is truly over?

Follows on from "Through the Darkness". Erebor has been reclaimed and Fíli is King under the Mountain. Living in a ruinous mountain brings with it many challenges, and Fíli is frustrated that he cannot address them all at once. The battle is over and Fíli lives. He finds himself in the middle of three different cultures mourning their dead, caring for their wounded and attempting to find a way to go on with life. Kili accompanies Thorin on a trip to a nearby town, and the adventure is more than either one bargained for. Thorin has to help deliver a baby, and they find themselves caring for two children.

When a grief-stricken woman jumps to her end, she awakens in a foreign land. The group of weary dwarves attempt to help this woman find her way back, with their quest hanging by a thread. Taking a liking to two of the dwarves, what effect with this have on both the journey and her want to return home? (i suck at summaries, my apologies) Rated T for future violence.

It wasn't easy losing Erebor to the Smaug. It wasn't easy having to build a whole new life in the Blue Moutains. Before going on the Quest for Erebor, Thorin's loyal lieutenant Dwalin rescues a dwarf lady. She's beautiful, difficult, and trouble with a capital T, but somehow he can't get her off his mind. Leaving home for the first time is exciting. Leaving home to reclaim a treasure from a dragon is an adventure. The biggest adventure in the lives of two young dwarfs, following their uncle on a journey they had never imagined. - formerly "Bone Crusher"

Sequel to "A distant Light". An old and powerful curse still holds sway over Durin's House. How far does one Captain go to save a friend, to save his King? How much can one man bear and will he risk fate itself to do it? Rated M for violence.

Thorin was a majestic warrior, rightful King under the Mountain, but he still had no idea how to deal with the two little dwarves that had been left in his charge. Series of one-shots, follows on from my first fic "Bedtime Stories".
