Author has written 21 stories for Harry Potter, Pokémon, and Star Wars.
"People very often say to me, 'How did you do it, how did you raise a baby and write a book?' And the answer is - I didn't do housework for four years. I am not Superwoman. And um, living in squalor, that was the answer." - J. K. Rowling
If you enjoy reading one of my stories or a new chapter of one, please leave a review. Writing takes time, so please show your appreciation for that with a short review. It's the only wage that fic authors get for all their hard work! :) I respond to fanfiction dot net members' reviews usually by private message, and non-member (guest) reviews may sometimes get a response written as a new review, or in an author note at the end of a new chapter.
Recent News & Updates
5/7/18 - Writing Update. My editing of "Extraordinary Summer" is going well, with half a dozen chapters done for their first check, and some chapters and sections off with betas doing spot checks for various issues. I have a new beta who's going to do a read through for general feedback and error-checking, but she's currently overseas so there's a little bit of a delay on that at the moment. As soon as I have a good handful of chapters triple-checked, I'll start posting! Not long now, optimistically looking at just over two weeks' time - probably Tues 24th July. :) One of the things I'll be posting is a summary of all the previous books in the series, to accommodate those who need to refresh their memory but don't want to re-read multiple novels' worth of fics.
22/6/18 - Writing Update. Great news! I have just finished the first draft of "Extraordinary Summer", the next fic in the "Perfectly Normal" series. 19 chapters, 150K words long in total (that's twice the length of HP & the Philosopher's Stone). I've been writing this for a *year, and it's all DONE! Now I just have to edit, and edit some more, then it's ready for posting! I'm going to have a lot of happy readers soon! And OMG the relief to have it finished at last! Once I start posting it will go up at the rate of one chapter a week, on Tuesday mornings (8-10am Australian Eastern Standard Time). That'll be on Monday evenings, for many of my American readers.
15/6/18 - Writing Update. Getting so close to finished now! Chapters 17 and 18 of "Extraordinary Summer" are done, at 5K and 7K words each respectively. Chapter 19 should be the very last chapter, as I try to find a satisfying cut off point to separate this fic and the one that will follow it in the series. Then it'll be time to edit, and edit some more, check in with a beta and spot-checkers, and then the posting begins at last! It will go up at my standard rate of a chapter a week. I'm currently leaning towards finishing up this fic with a farewell and a little chatter at the station, and then a scene jump for the next fic to the Sorting. Train scenes can get a little repetitive, don't you think? I'll see how it plays out as I plan and write.
5/6/18 - Writing Update. Chapter 16 of "Extraordinary Summer" is done, with an epic 10.5K chapter chock full of drama. I rewrote it a bit to add a bit more action, and fix some plot holes. I simply couldn't make it any shorter, as it was I cut out 600 words to plonk into the start of chapter 17. It's now up to the end of August, so there's only so much fic left to fit in - this fic will wrap up either *before* the Hogwarts Express, or just *after* the ride back to Hogwarts, depending on what suits best as a tidy ending as I approach that part of the story. Opinions, anyone? I'm leaning towards finishing up after the ride back, and before the Sorting, but I think either should work. Obviously if I include the train ride the story will be that little bit longer (so, a marginally longer wait for this fic, but a little more content once it posts). Naturally there will be another long fic in the series after this one, covering the GoF school year.
25/5/18 - Writing Update. Chapter 15 of "Extraordinary Summer" is done. :) There's STILL two or three chapters to go, though. I think I have to stop promising I'm close to the end. :P I'm not changing what I have left to write, it's just all a lot wordier than anticipated once I start fleshing out the outlines. So I have to keep splitting up chapters into more manageable sizes. This one is 8.4K words. It took only 10 days to get a new chapter done! I'm very happy with my current rate of progress. Even if somehow it appears to be almost June and this fic still isn't finished...
30/4/18 - Gift Fic. One of my dear readers has written a fic as a gift for me and my daughter, and it's really lovely! If you enjoyed my Pokémon/Harry Potter crossover fic "The Very Best", then have a peek at Andante825's new story, "A Heart So True". It's a rescue!fic and young Harry Potter has a cute Boggart-like Mimikyu companion.
2/4/18 - Award Finalist. My fic "Hermione Granger, Demonologist" is a finalist in the 2018 Enchanted Awards in the "Creative Genius" section. If you've read my story and you're a fan, please consider stopping by to vote for me! Voting is open until April 7th, 2018. Click on the first category in the link below (remove all asterisks):
There's a lot of great Hermione-centric Harry Potter stories in the finals! If you'd like to peek at the full list to make an informed vote (or just read some good fics!), note you can vote for two stories per section. You can find the full list below (remove all asterisks):
Update: Didn't win, alas! But it was nice to be a finalist. :)
I've made a little community, "Harry Potter for Kids" (and for adults interested in good HP fics with low levels of violence/romance/bad language), which I will slowly add new fics to as I have a chance to review them. Feel free to subscribe if it sounds like your cup of tea. I've recently brought on an extra person as a staff member for the group, so new fics should be added more regularly from now on.
I've started a blog over on my author account at "Goodreads". I'll re-post my "News and Updates" from this profile over on that account, so if you'd like to subscribe there to receive story & writing updates you're welcome to. Note - it's not a story-hosting site, it's a story *reviewing* website.
This is my long series - currently four fics long with an unposted fifth in progress. You can see the little rainbow image making it easier for you to spot these fics in my list of works.
Series summary: Harry just wants a quiet life. He wants to be ordinary, unremarkable, and get along with everyone. Being "normal" for the Dursleys yielded great results in improving his standard of living, and as he heads off to Hogwarts he still retains that impulse to blend in. Of course, life isn't as simple as that, and Harry is a magnet for trouble, it seems! Give this series a try if you love seeing the pure-blood wizarding culture more fully fleshed out, slow realistic character development, and some unique twists on the canonical story starting with a more realistic reaction to neglectful child abuse than you often see.
This series is on hold while I do more writing, and will return later in 2018 with "Extraordinary Summer", which will cover Harry's summer before fourth year. Note that I prefer not to begin posting stories until they're complete, or nearly so.

You Need More Fics?
Some additional fics are available only on my AO3 account for older readers (same username - BrilliantLady). No fics with a rating higher than "T" will be hosted on fanfiction dot net.
I currently read primarily Harry Potter fics (including crossovers), Sherlock, Big Bang Theory, and Pride and Prejudice fics. I occasionally enjoy Smallville, Buffy TVS, Hulk, Avengers, Walking Dead and Narnia fics. I also like Stargate and Supernatural crossovers with my other fandoms, even though I don't watch those shows! :) You may see little nods to some of my favourite books and shows in my fics. So far the majority of my published fics are Harry Potter fics, with one Harry Potter/Pokemon crossover fic, a Star Wars fic, and a Big Bang Theory fic that's hosted on AO3 only.
Some of my favourite books include: "The Gumshoe, The Witch and the Virtual Corpse" by Keith Hartman, "Prince of the Godborn" by Geraldine Harris, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, "The Dark is Rising" by Susan Cooper, "Princess of Wands" by John Ringo, and "The Land Behind the World" by Anne Spencer Parry.
I can also be found on AO3 with the same pen name.
