Author has written 28 stories for Harry Potter, Pokémon, Star Wars, Sherlock, and Lucifer.
"People very often say to me, 'How did you do it, how did you raise a baby and write a book?' And the answer is - I didn't do housework for four years. I am not Superwoman. And um, living in squalor, that was the answer." - J. K. Rowling
If you enjoy reading one of my stories or a new chapter of one, it would be most appreciated if you'd leave a little review in thanks! Short, long, constructively critical, rambling, or excitedly incoherent - all reviews are welcome. :) I try to logged-in fanfiction dot net members' reviews by private message, but I've felt a bit overwhelmed lately so please don't be offended if I don't reply - let me know if you're particularly keen to get a response. Non-member (guest) reviews may sometimes get a response in an author's note at the end of a new chapter if there's a specific question that it seems important to respond to.
Recent News & Updates
25/9/21 - Podfic. Sephonered has, with my permission, made a podfic version of "Hermione Granger, Demonologist". Check it out on AO3 if you're curious! :)
25/6/21 - Final chapter. "Unprecedented Competition" is now up in its entirety. If you've been waiting for the final chapter to go up before you start reading, now's the time! There will be one final fic in the "Perfectly Normal" series, but expect a looong break before it goes up. Subscribe to "Have you Forgotten What Happened in This Series" or to me as an author to be sure to be alerted when it is eventually written and complete and starts being posted.
15/6/21 - New chapter. We're in the home stretch now! With chapter 37 freshly posted this morning, there's only three chapters left to go for "Unprecedented Competition". The final chapter will go up next Friday, 25th June 2021.
15/4/21 - New chapter. Chapter 20 of "Unprecedented Competition" is now up. It's 12 hours early because I'll be on a train most of tomorrow heading home from a family holiday. I should have wifi on the train but it may be unpredictable, so I figured an early chapter would be better received than a possibly late one!
I'm running behind replying to reviews - family has to come first - so if you're eager to get a reply on a review remember to ask for one and I'll be happy to prioritise replying to you. If you don't need a reply, just let me know "no reply required".
We're at the halfway mark for the fic now (20 of 40 chapters) so if you're waiting until it's all up note you've got 10 weeks to go. :)
Covid's under control in my state again with no community transmission, so mask requirements have been lifted (for most locations). I've been very glad this past year that I live in Australia.
13/4/21 - Posting Alert. This Friday's chapter may be posted early - like 12 hours early - as all going well I'll be travelling back home from a within-the-state holiday. It'll go up Thurs 15th 8-10pm AEST.
2/4/21 - New chapter. Chapter 16 of "Unprecedented Competition" is up. :)
My city's out of lockdown as we seem to have stopped community spread of covid (fingers crossed), and we're on mask-wearing requirements across the state now for the next fortnight. In my local area compliance seems high, around 90-95%, but it's those last few arseholes who are really frustrating. I expect out in regional areas compliance will be lower, as there's a higher likelihood people will be blase about their low chances of being infected or infectious.
I wanted to work in an extra scene this chapter of Tonks shapeshifting to a male form just for fun, and Harry and her (him) chatting about her (his) powers and pronouns, but there just wasn't time to tweak it, especially since I slept in this morning. I'm not sure I can really smoothly insert such a scene anyway. WDYT?
Next chapter we're back at Hogwarts, BTW. :)
Happy Easter or Pesach or Ostara or Happy Chocolate Breakfast Day!
16/3/21 - New Chapters. There's now 10 chapters up for "Unprecedented Competition" - we're a quarter of the way through!
9/2/21 - New Fic. "Unprecedented Competition" is now here! It will update with new chapters every Tuesday and Friday morning (between 8-10am AEST) until all 40 chapters are up.
4/2/21 - New Chapter, and New Fic Coming Soon! I know some of you have been patiently waiting for literally years, so I have good news! The next story in the "Perfectly Normal" series will start being posted next week, on Tuesday 9th of February.
18/12/20 - Writing Update. Chapters 38-40 of the next "Perfectly Normal" fic are done. And that's *it*! The first draft is complete! OMG! Two years or more, I've been working on this. It's an epic length fic of over 300,000 words. Is it perfect? Probably not. But it is *finished* and I am so glad to be almost done with this and able to move onto other projects.
Now... the editing begins! When I've got a good handful of chapters fully polished, including a check by my beta, I'll start publishing it. Due to its length I'm thinking of posting two chapters a week, which will still be over four months of fic updates (20 weeks). What do you think? One or two chapters a week?
BTW, you may be wondering if that means the series is complete. No, my intention is to - eventually - write one more fic to wrap up the series, at the end of Harry's 5th year.
I've made a little community, "Harry Potter for Kids" (and for adults interested in good HP fics with low levels of violence/romance/bad language), which I will slowly add new fics to as I have a chance to review them. Feel free to subscribe if it sounds like your cup of tea. I've recently brought on an extra person as a staff member for the group, so new fics should be added more regularly from now on.
I've started a blog over on my author account at "Goodreads". I'll re-post my "News and Updates" from this profile over on that account, so if you'd like to subscribe there to receive story & writing updates you're welcome to. Note - it's not a story-hosting site, it's a story *reviewing* website.
This is my long series - it is five fics long and the sixth in the series is an incomplete and unpublished draft - this series is ongoing. When browsing my list of works keep an eye out for the little rainbow snake image making it easier for you to spot the fics in this series. There is also an additional work summarising the first four fics in the series, as an aid for readers who'd like to refresh their memories on the details; subscribe to this if you want to be alerted to when the next fic in the series goes up.
Series summary: Harry just wants a quiet life. He wants to be ordinary, unremarkable, and get along with everyone. Being "normal" for the Dursleys yielded great results in improving his standard of living, and as he heads off to Hogwarts he still retains that impulse to blend in. Of course, life isn't as simple as that, and Harry is a magnet for trouble, it seems! Give this series a try if you love seeing the pure-blood wizarding culture more fully fleshed out, slow realistic character development, and some unique twists on the canonical story starting with a more realistic reaction to neglectful child abuse than you often see.

You Need More Fics?
Some additional fics are available only on my AO3 account for older readers (same username - BrilliantLady). No fics with a rating higher than "T" will be hosted on fanfiction dot net.
I currently read primarily Harry Potter fics (including crossovers), Sherlock, Lucifer, Big Bang Theory, and Pride and Prejudice fics. I occasionally enjoy Smallville, Star Trek, and Avengers/MCU fics. I also like Stargate and Supernatural crossovers with my other fandoms, even though I don't watch those shows! :) You may see little nods to some of my favourite books and shows in my fics. I write primarily Harry Potter fics, with a smattering of other fandoms including Pokemon, Star Wars, Big Bang Theory, Marvel/Avengers, Smallville, and Sherlock.
Some of my favourite books include: "The Gumshoe, The Witch and the Virtual Corpse" by Keith Hartman, "Prince of the Godborn" by Geraldine Harris, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, "The Dark is Rising" by Susan Cooper, "Princess of Wands" by John Ringo, and "The Land Behind the World" by Anne Spencer Parry.
I can also be found on AO3 with the same pen name.
