Author has written 2 stories for JAG, Harry Potter, and NCIS.
I am a forty-something year old, female, South African fic reader mostly, although I have written (and aborted after a scant few chapters when I couldn't get the plot to work as I wanted or envisioned it to) a JAG/Bridget Jones's Diary Xover fic on the JAG shipper site at Yahoo.
I also wrote a oneshot JAG songfic - though I generally LOATHE songfics with a passion, because I hardly ever know the songs that they are based on - based on Alanis Morissette's song "Your house" (the hidden track on her wonderful CD 'Jagged little pill' - but the version on the original 'Jagged little pill' of that song is IMHO FAR better than the version that is on the acoustic 'Jagged little pill'). This oneshot is now loaded on this site at:
In retrospect, I'm convinced my aborted JAG/Bridget Jones's Diary Xover fic should also have been a oneshot, but maybe with a oneshot-length A/N.
I beta for fic authors on occasion.
I read JAG and Harry Potter. I started reading NCIS fics again (after stopping for a while) on 19 July 2008 and I beta them for an author or two (I think). My favourite pairings are Kibbs, Gabby, McAbby, McGiva, Jibbs (which I am thiking of giving a little break sa of today, 4 March 2014) and though I haven't read any yet, I would probably like Fornell/whoever, as he should have someone, don't you think? I very rarely read anything with DiNozzo as a part of the pairing, as I find him so odious that I can't fathom how anybody would even GET into a pairing situation with him. I only very occasionally read Mibbs (Hollis Mann and Gibbs). Oh, and though they're scarcer even than hen's teeth, I like McKate fics too. Recently (late 2009) I started to read Jibbs. I also like reading fics that has Jackie Vance, director Vance, Sarah McGee, Timothy McGee's little sister (from the season 4 ep 'Twisted sister'), Jethro (Tim McGee's dog) and Jackson Gibbs (el jefe's dad) and Tobias Fornell and little Emily Fornell in them. I occasionally check out the few Diana Gabaldon fics for updates and, since the second week of July 2008 or 2009 (when a South African satellite TV station started broadcasting some season 1 eps, which I got into to the extent of buying all seven seasons on DVD) West Wing fics as well.
My favourite pairings in all of the fandoms I read, are: West Wing - Jed/Abbey, Charlie/Zoey, Josh/Donna, Sam/Ainsley; JAG - Harm/Mac; Harry Potter - Harry/Hermione, Neville/Luna, Harry/Tonks, Remus/Tonks, George/Angelina, Fred/Alicia, Katie/Oliver, Sirius/Remus, quite a selection of the Harry harem fics and James/Lily.
I held off for the longest time from reading Bridget Jones's Diary fics (I LOVE both books, but the first movie is IMO far better than the second one) and only started reading BJD fics (I ship Mark/Bridget) after reading some of the IMO uber-crappy columns that there were rumours the third movie was going to be based on. I am quaking in my flip-flops for how bad the third movie would be if it ever gets made, if it is to be based on those crappy columns.
I started reading NCIS: LA fics in the middle of September 2010, when I finally finished watching my DVDs of season 1 of that series. I think, thus far, I will like fics about Kensi, Sam, Callen, Nell and Hetty, Deeks and Nate. Eric probably needs to stop irritating me quite so much first, before I will like fics with him in it. Pairing(s) that I like so far? Kensi/whoever, some Kensi/Callen and Nell/Callen. I am almost embarrassed to admit, but I am totally indifferent to the character of Dominic Vail.
NCIS/ NCIS:LA Xover fics that I would LOVE to see written and that I would read, are 1. Macy/Gibbs fics based on the two "Legend" episodes; and 2. McGee/Kensi fics based on the same.
NCIS fics I would LOVE to see written and that I would read are any and all with Holly Snow in it (I find her fascinating, though I have more or less the same ethical/moral/women's kind of issues as Abby did with what Ms. Snow did for a living before acquiring the monitoring device around her ankle).
I bought the first eight Sookie Stackhouse books in a boxed set for myself over Christmas 2010 with a gift card I got for Christmas 2010, and three more of the Sookie Stackhouse books since. So far, I ship Sookie/Eric, but I do not read loads of Sookie Stackhouse fics yet.
Whenever I read HP fics, the mental pic I have of Albus Dumbledore is Richard Harris, unless it turns out to be a manipulative and still evil sort of Dumbledore, then the mental pic is Michael Gambon.
Just a quick note about my reviewing policy: If I start reading a fic and I hate it (for any possible number of reasons), I stop reading such a fic immediately, and leave quietly without leaving any review whatsoever and try not to read that author's work again. If I have left a review where I do not say what I like in a particular chapter and that maybe only contains spelling errors I have noticed, please believe me, I still like the whole of that chapter. It is just that nothing resonated amazingly strongly with me (or bugged the living daylights out of me) in that chapter. And another thing, I now (from 10 October 2010 onwards) do the quietly leaving thing in any and all of my fandoms if I start reading a fic and notice grammar and or spelling errors, and I am a copy editor for a South African daily newspaper by profession so I DO freaking notice! Oh, and authors who call me a schoolmarm and all other kinds of even ruder names for pointing out spelling and grammatical errors IN MY ACTUAL REVIEWS of fics, please take a dollar, a pound or whatever the currency is in your country and buy a freaking clue, won't you?! I do that for a living too and I am seriously good at my job.
If I write "AW!" in a review it means I found whatever preceded the "AW!" (or the whole ficlet or chapter if it was only little) cute.
If I write "Crap!" in a review, it is in reaction to something that I consider scary, nerve-wracking (like bad guys winning or seeming to win) or angry-making having just happened at that point in the fic. (On 14/15 March 2012 I left just such a review, containing those two responses, to an NCIS fic that I actually liked a lot, and the IMO utterly dim bint of a fic author replied: "If you don't like it, don't read it. No need to be a jerk about it." And there I thought I was being nice!) So, from now on, I will periodically, it seems, need to explain in my profile what I mean with my use of interjections too. I will thus, for the time being, ask each author whose work I review with those interjections whether they understood what I meant.
I also seem to have a weird kind of obsessive compulsive thing about food in fics, in that I want as much detail about any food that gets mentioned. I suppose it is a bit like watching the cooking shows on Food Network in North America or those on BBC Lifestyle in South Africa (though we now have Food Network too, but I like it less than BBC Lifestyle): If the food mentioned has enough detail and seems appetising enough, I do not even have to eat! At first I was just like that over food mentioned in HP fics, but now it is all my fandoms.
And I have a total thing against any of my favourite characters in any and all of my fandoms getting or sleeping cold after a harrowing experience I had as an eight year old of having to sleep cold myself for four consecutive nights.
I have recently started reading a limited quantity of Pride and Prejudice fics, Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy pairing, obviously. I think it was one of the authors in this fandom that recommended to me Linda Berdoll's two published sequels to Pride and Prejudice. I had so much fun reading that. Thank you, to whoever it was that made that recommendation to me.
I am currently on (I think) book 16 of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, and they are the greatest fun. If I were Stephanie, I would have long since hurled out the window and into the parking lot those people who constantly break and enter into my apartment, except Ranger. I ship Stephanie/Ranger.
