Chapter 9:

Read this after you've read chapter 9 to avoid spoilers. A guest review for chapter 8 made me realize that some of you may have wanted me to change the details around Brennan's past coming out in court. Namely, the fact that Booth did the outing. I did consider going back to change what I'd written, but in the end I decided to leave it as is. It just felt right to me. Here's why. Yes, in this story Brennan is more open than on the show, but it really only applies to Booth (and to a lesser extent, Angela). I don't believe that even my version of Brennan would have been comfortable bringing up her past to a courtroom full of strangers. And I didn't want to have Stires do it either because I like to think that he doesn't know about it in the first place. I like to think that she never trusted him with her story, so he couldn't have done it. And lastly, I think the fact that Brennan forgave Booth on the show was a major character development and needed to be included in this story. With anyone else, she might have just written them off and moved on from them, but not Booth. I think the way I wrote it does make it easier for her to forgive though.

Chapter 12:

I took a little creative liberty with Brennan's foster care experiences for a few reasons. The number of homes (9) is based on her saying that she'd been to 12 schools by the time she graduated high school. Since we know that she started high school while her parents were still around, I'm presuming that she also went to one elementary school and one middle school. Hence, at least 9 other homes. I could be wrong, but I don't think she ever said on the show how many homes she had. If she did, and I blacked it out, please let me know! As for her experiences, I know that the only real story we ever got was the trunk incident. But that's not much to go on in a fic of this size, so I elaborated a bit. And these details will come up again. I chose to play it up for a reason, and you can expect it to come back up in the sequels. :)
