Author has written 9 stories for Harry Potter, X-Men, Nightside, Simon R. Green, and Vampire Diaries. May your ink never run dry and your words never go stale. AUTHOR'S NEWS and UPDATES: 1 - I have a P/atreon account under the name DaSalvatore if you want to throw out a tip. Many thanks either way. 2 - I have a FictionPress account under DaSalvadore where you can find my original work. Alas, so far, that's lacking. 3 - I have an AO3 account if you prefer to read my stories there. It's also under the name DaSalvatore. Tuesday Update (21/3/23) I'm back into posting. My readers would much rather have chaotic updates than silence until I finish my stories. This means you're getting new material for as long as it lasts! I've also got a much better support circle around me to limit any health issues I might have. Saturday Update (23/10/21) Originality Chapter 4, 5 and 6 - 7,923 words, 8.056 words, and 12,570 words respectively. Friday Update (15/10/21) Here's the update for this week's work! Son of Potter "polished" chapters 4-6 - 16,242 old words/16,563 new words (321 new words) First draft of Originality Chapters 2 and 3 - 7,863 words, 9,433 words respectively. First draft of Promised One Chapter 1 (Harry Potter/ASOIAF/GoT) - 6.932. It felt like a "slow" week for me given life activity. As a reminder, my "polishing" of SoP,DoB is to clean up the previous chapters, expand some small areas that I feel need it without compromising what people have already read, and getting me into its world again so I can finish the story. But just because I call it a "polishing," doesn't mean there won't be flaws. Friday Update (8/10/21): Chapters 1-3 of Son of Potter, Daughter of Black have been polished - Old word count = 14,382 / New word count = 18,200 ) First draft and polished version of Chapter 1 of Originality (HP/Vampire Diaries) = 12,127 The first draft of Chapter 1 of Protogenos Potter (HP/Percy Jackson) - 6,445 words An out of nowhere first draft of an HP/Dragon Age Chapter 1 - 13,815 words. Not bad for a week's worth of writing! FINISHED STORIES: Here's what I've actually finished (shocking!) ONGOING STORIES: Broken Chains (Harry Potter) - The familiar tale of Harry finds out things aren't what they seem to be. Sirius and Remus have spent two years working together with Harry in order to find out exactly what's going on in the last Potter's life. When Sirius dies at the Ministry and Harry hears the Prophecy, things get clearer and he understands the real Dark Lord he is supposed to Vanquish. Albus Dumbledore. A HarryxHermionexLuna story heavily inspired by DrgnMstr's Harry Potter and the Unspeakable Time and DerLaCroix's fabulous Rocking the Boat. Changes Beyond the Grave (Harry Potter) - Partially inspired by Sinyk's Angry Harry and the Seven and Lady Laran's Remaking Destiny. The Potter's weren't the Dumbledore Kool-aid drinkers, it's believed and left behind information and keys to Harry's long-term future and happiness. At the age of 10 he finds their Worst-Case Scenario trunk in the Dursleys attic and things snowball badly for the Manipulating Dumbledore from there on. This story leans and borrows Massively on Simon R. Green's Nightside series. You meet the original Merlin (from Nightside) as well as get a very anti-hero Harry even at the age of 12. M to the X (Harry Potter / Marvel / DC / Other Crossover) - This is what happens if Son of Potter ends badly. World-ending Badly. Melania and her last surviving friends are given a ritual by the goddess Danu to travel into another dimension in order to get a chance to live in another world. However, a price must always be paid when dealing with the gods and the group find themselves facing a world of mutants, magicals, and monsters all gunning for them and ancient oaths of loyalty now theirs to follow. Originality (HP/Vampire Diaries/Originals/Teen Wolf Crossover) - Harry finishes the war during the Battle of the Ministry, and in doing so activates Family Magic and a hidden heritage that some people wish had stayed buried. The immortal tribrid blood son of Elijah travels to Mystic Falls awaiting the arrival of his other family. If only those two pesky Salvatore brothers would stop causing chaos in his town. Rebirth of the Founders (Harry Potter) - Inspired by parihpfan's The Founders Four. The Founders found a way of putting powerful safeguards into their bloodlines. Now, as Harry faces off against the shade of Tom Riddle and the basilisk inside the Chamber of Secrets, the Sorting Hat causes one of those safeguards to activate. The result means Harry Potter is now Salazar Slytherin and the most misunderstood Founder is the Boy-Who-Lived. It's time to bring Hogwarts and the Wizarding World back to the glory they used to be. Harry/Hermione, Neville/Luna. This story will show you my (re) imagined Founders. Certainly not for Snape or Dumbledore lovers. Son of Potter, Daughter of Black, Child of Evans (Harry Potter) - Initially inspired by Janara's Let The Guilty, Pay, Firazh's Corvus Black and Branchwraith's Season of Change. Rather than abandon Harry after his third year, Sirius Black camps out near Privet Drive and spends the summer teaching him all about his Potter heritage with plenty of Black history thrown in. Sirius is determined to give Harry all the tools he can because while he might be the Son of Prongs, he was actually born the Daughter of Padfoot. This story has had its updates delayed more than a few times due to chapter 32's pivotal role. When that is posted, it will open the floodgates for the rest of the story to be posted on time. This is NOT ABANDONED! I've essentially hit a brick wall in the writing. The plot is laid out up until the very end plus epilogue, it is "merely" the actual writing to put all the pieces together that is causing me the issues. When A Good Man Goes to War - Harry has the potential to be a Good Man. A man who stands up against evil of all kinds. But he finds out his life was built on a lie, along with a far too active portrait of Salazar Slytherin willing to teach him to become the true Slytherin Heir. The world and those who believe in the Greater Good will tremble when a Good Man goes to war. Wrath of the Blacks (Harry Potter) - Inspired by Son of Potter. A regretful night leads to James kicking out Lily when it becomes clear she's carrying Sirius' child. Voldemort does the wrong thing in taking along Bellatrix that fateful night and her fanatical love for the Dark Lord breaks beneath her loyalty to House Black. Bella takes little Cassiopeia and together with the rest of her family, raises the Girl-Who-Lived into the ultimate Grey Lady. The enemies of the Blacks beware. UPCOMING STORIES: AUTHOR PET PEEVES: Questions in the Summaries - I beg you, please, do not put questions in your story synopses. At worst, you'll turn me off completely, at best, and you'll get me to think up my own story to go along with your questions. Such questions barely tell the reader anything anyway. So if you have stories where all your description is a "what if/will/does..." then I ask you to change it so people actually know what you've written. And yes, this annoyance is also for professional books. I practically throw a book back onto the shelves if their blurb is nothing but asking me questions about the book. Artificially Inflated word-counts - This usually happens when authors decide to flood their chapter(s) with huge author's notes and a relatively small chapter size. Don't, just don't. It makes you come across as thinking that what you have to say is more important than the story people want to read. The important thing is the story. And saying that... Smarmy ANs when a chapter ends on a cliffhanger or dark turn for a character - "Aren't I evil?" "Do you hate me?" "I'm sorry for the cliffy!" Are all meaningless statements. No cliffhanger is an absolute must but rather a result of either the writing leading up to that point being the best spot to stop or the author choosing to stop there. Cliffhangers are a choice and trying to be smart and/or funny about how a chapter ends is annoying. "I name X Potter...the Boy/Girl Who Lived!!!" - From what I understand, the BWL title was created by the media once the story of Halloween got leaked. It makes no sense to me to have a manipulative! Dumbledore actually declare that a child (almost always the wrong one) is now this. I don't mind it if the title is given to the fake BWL later on by the press, but to have Dumbles suddenly shout it when they find the cottage ruined makes me cringe every. Single. Time. This goes double for when the Potters are alive, and triple when there actually isn't someone who sacrificed themselves for the child/children. Harry was the BWL because his parents didn't! Angel/Death Re-do Fics where the being shouts at Harry for constantly screwing up yet the kid is never allowed to remember things - I don't know about you, but I don't appreciate people blaming me for things happening if I'm not aware of the situation to stop it from happening. I'm always torn with these redo fics because I actually love the concept (you know the type, they're on their last redo attempt and that's why they're allowed to remember things) but I've really grown to hate the starting sequence which has the angel/death being tear Harry a new one for constantly screwing up. It makes no sense from a logical or story perspective and it's annoying to read. Overprotective Dad Granger/father - One of my favourite authors for relationship building is Robst. Unfortunately, he and many, many other people have a habit of making Hermione's dad such a nasty piece of work that I generally want him shot dead on principle. I know there are overprotective parents out there, but his daughter goes to a boarding school 9 months out of the year, he's a healthcare professional in the early/mid 90s UK, and should be fully aware of when children start having sex. A little overprotectiveness in a father is one thing, constantly growling at a boy and even being willing to see him die rather than "spoil" his daughter in a ritual/bond is disgusting. And my absolute biggest... "DON'T LIKE, DON'T READ" - I can't express how frustrating I find this attitude. Not the initial premise. After all, there's no point in continuing to read something if you don't like it just to constantly post negative reviews. No, my problem with this is that it has become a type of shield people use in order to avoid ANY type of critique of their stories. It's similar to the "I'm not a professional so don't blame me for any issues" argument. Both completely ignore the concept of improving as a writer. Just like the old saying about everyone has opinions, everyone has a story to tell. And just like how people believe our opinions are the only ones that matter, it's painfully obvious that some authors believe that their stories/writing are above reproach. That any type of negativity is a flame and so can/should be ignored. None of us are perfect writers, all of us can improve and no one story will appeal to everyone. Just as we all have the right to post our stories, everyone has the right to (respectfully) declare what they don't like about anything they read. Whether that's this profile, my stories, or anyone else's stuff. HP Canon Thoughts My HP stories are a mix of what I consider "proper" canon, "secondary" canon, and a smattering of "other" canon with a whole lot of my own creations due to the poor world-building in the HP Books. - Primary Canon: The Books. The seven HP books are it. As long as I (and any other writer) stick to the information in the books of Harry's adventure, then canon is being kept to no matter what else happens in the story. I want to point out here that I do NOT consider the HP movies nor the Fantastic Beasts movies primary canon despite how the HP WIKI moderators treat them. They're done in a different medium entirely and this medium forces plot/story/action scene decisions on behalf of the writers that are not included when writing books. I see them as supplementary to the story at large. Think of the difference between a movie and TV mini-series of the same story, or two different (but similar) AUs. - Secondary Canon: JK's Notes that she released prior to or just after writing the books. This includes the Black Tapestry and Hogwarts' student list. This is the stuff she used to help create the HP world and had in her mind while creating the books. But it wasn't included and so can be used as/when needed. - Other Canon: Tweets aren't canon. Random muses in interviews don't have to be considered canon. Pottermore doesn't have to be considered canon. Why? Because none of this stuff is from JK's "Silmarillion" but rather things she is adding post-writing. A lot of it is interesting, but there are things that conflict with canon/her earlier notes. The most obvious is when it comes to Harry's grandparents. The Black Tapestry showed Charlus and Dorian Potter, who had a child late in life and with Dorea not blasted off the Tapestry. This shows two things 1) It matches what we knew of James' parents, 2) it showed the Potters were considered the "right sort" by the Blacks. And then suddenly JK declares these obvious choices for Harry's grandparents (which would explain why James didn't shun a Gryffindor Black in Sirius) and created Fleamont and Euphemia. Only now Charlus and Dorea are ignored with no answer as to what happened to them or how they fit in society as well as their son. It's an added convolution that didn't need to happen and actually muddies the water of Harry's family rather than clearing it up. So I happen to love the Harry Potter fanfiction more than the original material. I really see JKR's popularity coming from the readers putting their own spins into such a potential universe than her talent in storytelling. Why? Because the Harry Potter information and lore simply isn't fleshed out enough for some of the events to make proper sense. As such... A Note About My Stories! - I've essentially built my own world as an AU that's built from the framework of Potter-canon. I've taken information from the books, Pottermore and the HP Lexicon and added my own twists. This means you'll find plenty of overlap in my stories, including Original Characters doing the same job or information about the past being identical. Two examples are: Goblins - The family Account Managers are the same and will have the same personality across my stories unless it suits the plot to change something. Harry's Bloodline - The Potters come from the Peverells and the Peverells spawn the Slytherin family line as well as the Gaunt one. Morgan Le Fey is actually Rowena Ravenclaw's sister and the Blacks come from the Ravenclaws/Le Fey. This means that Harry is related to the Potter, Peverell, Black, Le Fey, Ravenclaw and Slytherin Families. This doesn't mean every story will have him Lord of every house but be aware that the genealogy connecting him to these names is still there even if Harry ends up only being Harry Potter. Why have I done this? Because one of Harry's defining features is his eyes, eyes that are "Lily's." Since I am of the belief that Muggle-borns are descendants of magicals/magical beings, it makes sense to me that Lily and Harry's eyes are part of an ancient bloodline. And since Lily's Protection was on Harry BEFORE the soul shard broke off Riddle's spirit form, the parasite merging with the babe long enough to grant him Parseltongue abilities yet the protections still working enough to burn Quirrell (but not the shard?) makes no sense. As such, Harry's a natural snake-charmer. Hence, Lily and Harry are heirs to Slytherin. And speaking of that parasite.. Harry as a Horcrux - Just. No. For one; The protections. They still work in PS and are the ONLY reason Riddle wanted Harry's blood in GOF. Snake-face even comments that he did it all so he could use Harry's blood and touch Harry without burning. So how do the blood protections work to keep Riddle from touching him yet make it so the soul shard infects Harry? Nope, makes no sense. Making a Horcrux - Are you telling me that all someone has to do is force a soul/soul piece into/at an object and the thing is absorbed? I don't believe it. It's far more realistic that the object meant to be the new Horcrux has to be magically altered/prepared in order to anchor the soul. So when was this done to Harry? No, what makes sense is that the soul shard in Harry's forehead would naturally fade away once Riddle is taken care of, but Dumbledore was too much of an idiot to ask for outside help to find out. Merlin and Morgana's age - The Merlin, Morgana and Arthur of Harry Potter lore are not the ones from our legends. The Merlin of Hogwarts fame is named after the Merlin in our stories and is partly why there are some conflicting accounts of the man in our myths. The HP Camelot is a magical reimagining of the original for Wizarding kind only. Bloodline Origins - Speaking of the Houses. My Son of Potter story hints at a very intricate backstory for the Potter and Black families being born from a single powerful wizard. It's from him that the Le Fey, Peverell and Slytherin families come from (and from two of these the Blacks and Potters). Again, this backstory will be present in all my stories, even if no one living actually knows about it. Spells/Magic - Any branch of magic, Family Magic or spells not canon will again cross over unless otherwise ignored by me. I'm going to repeat myself. While certain magic and facts might be in all/most of my stories, that doesn't mean they will have as much or as little influence in a story as they have in another. They're merely there for me to have consistency in JKR's original universe. POSTING SCHEDULE (Subject to Change): Broken Chains - Changes Beyond the Grave - M to the X - Originality/When a Good Man Goes to War - Alternating Mondays. Rebirth of the Founders - Son of Potter, Daughter of Black - Update/edited versions of the old chapters every Friday. Both here and on AO3. This will give me the chance to finally finish the thing. |
