Okay, so yesterday was a bit exciting for me, in a pretty upsetting way. I got a message that someone had stolen Dusk To Dawn and dropped a few bricks.
"Some fucknugget has stolen your fic, uploaded to goodreads, and is charging money for it. Luckily it's just Dusk to Dawn. I've had almost everything lifted"
Now, i've never heard about Goodreads before and when i clicked on the link they sent me, my heart dropped down into my feet. I was totally heartbroken. I've had this happen to me before with Under Wing, but i honestly didn't think it would happen to me again.
My response to this was to pull every chapter of Dtd off of ffnet, replace it with a note about the situation and lock it on Ao3. If the 'thief' wanted to copy off of me, they weren't going to be able to get anymore if they wanted to 'continue'. Dusk To Dawn has now been restored, and i've unlocked the copy on Ao3.
After a while of poking around Goodreads, trying to figure out how to get it taken down, (you have no idea how alarming it was to see the shop option), i found the reviews section and left my own. Saw there was a little exert from my fic and made a fake 'chapter' to get my message out to the person who'd 'stolen' my fic.
Thank you to EVERYONE who responded. Honestly, thank you so much. My heart has all of those messages of support holding it back together.
False alarm people.
Now i'm going to go back to trying to figure out how to get control over that goodreads profile. Wish me luck. Moral of the story? Please, please don't create profiles for me out of nowhere? Also, Jess? I love you, i honestly, really love you... but please, never scare me like this again? Gdi. (still love you).
As an apology, i've posted a short exert of the next chapter of Under Wing to my Facebook Author's Page. Hope you enjoy it!
