Author has written 1 story for Naruto.
Current Writing Progress (25 October 2017)
I have come to the conclusion that I'll have to finish writing the entire Chunin Exam sequence before I can post any of it. We'll see how this goes.
I'm from the United States, in my early twenties. I'm an avid reader and anime fan. I joined this site mostly to lurk and enjoy other people's stories. Ended up publishing because I got struck with the idea for Drifting Petals one day and couldn't put it down.
Currently working on 1 story.
Naruto: I read the manga up through the opening part of the Fourth Shinobi War, at which point I decided enough was enough and Kishimoto had gone too far. I know vaguely how the story ends, but I don't care to read the particulars. I never got into any of the Naruto anime or movies. I have mixed feelings about the Akatsuki, Madara, Zetsu, and the whole Tobi/Obito thing, so don't assume you know what's going on with the AU I'm writing.
This idea came from reflection on how badly mismatched Sakura is with the other members of Team 7. It didn't make much sense to put a civilian girl with few advantages onto a powerhouse squad alongside Naruto and Sasuke. Sakura's growth throughout the series is nice, but it could have been so much more.
What if Sakura had reason to be assigned to Konoha's top jounin, on par with being the last Uchiha or the jinchuuriki of the nine-tails? This idea prompted me to imagine an AU in which Sakura inherits a long-dormant kekkei genkai, and here we are. Drifting Petals immediately breaks from canon, and the divergence will only grow wider.
The story is currently in the lead-up to the Chunin Exams. Rated M to be safe - I intend to show a realistic version of the Naruto-verse. No pairings yet, and I'm still not sure how much romance there will be.
(Why is it called 'Drifting Petals'? Because I had written the thing, had no idea what a good title would be and needed one now, and came up with a nice-sounding definitely-a-metaphor phrase that has long since ceased to have any connection to future chapters. It's vaguely evocative word vomit. Maybe I could come up with a better name, but that's honestly too much of a hassle.)
Full Outline (Last updated 25 October 2017)
Current outline has seventy-one posts (counting chapters, interludes, prologue, and epilogues), divided into nine story arcs and one timeskip. Expected total length is around 400k words.
The above is all tentative; while some individual scenes have been sketched out as far ahead as the epilogues, everything beyond the Chunin Exams is in flux and may turn out longer or shorter depending on what grabs my interest. There's a definite possibility that there will be two or three additional arcs inserted around Part 4; Part 7 is in danger of being split into two separate arcs, and I already know there's going to be more in it than is currently on my outline; and Part 1 is likely to be rewritten again and vastly expanded at some future date.
AU changes (minor spoilers)
This list is not comprehensive. In particular, there are lots of little worldbuilding details which are probably contradicted somewhere in canon that aren't yet important enough to mention here. I reserve the right to add or modify changes to this list as I see fit.
Current Outline of Upcoming Posts (subject to change)
Chapter 10 (Gritty Reality): missions, worldbuilding, other stuff.
Chapter 12 (Intellectual Distraction): first exam and lead-up to second exam.
On the Back Burner
Ideas that have graduated past simple plot bunnies and might be turned into stories. If you bug me about your favorites I might actually publish something.
Working title: The Impossible Order (Massive Star Wars AU, a rewrite of the entire prequel era. The story I had in mind when I made this account.)
Working title: Competence (Harry Potter point-of-divergence. Instead of fading away after Voldemort's downfall at Godric's Hollow, the remaining followers of the Dark Lord embark on a desperate gambit: a direct coup d'etat of the British Ministry of Magic. They almost succeed. A Muggleborn secretary, former assistant to some muckety-muck in the upper levels of the Ministry, finds himself the highest-ranking survivor of a shattered government. It's a good thing Hufflepuffs stick together and aren't afraid of hard work.)
Working title: Men in Black (Harry Potter AU, elsewhere fic set in mid-twentieth century USA. Alexander Warshawski is a nuclear physicist working for the AEC. When his daughter Eleanor informs him one Saturday afternoon that a 'man in black' is at the door he assumes it's a government agent. One fraught conversation later, he asks the robed official to come back the next weekend for lunch. Ten minutes later, intruder gone, he picks up the phone and dials the FBI agent who lives two houses down.)
Working title: Emerald Loop (Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald AU Peggy Sue. Archie and Maxie aren't bumbling villain caricatures. Two children can't save the world. Bitter, hardened veterans Brendan and May find Jirachi after years of shepherding some survivors of the Hoenn cataclysm. They wish themselves back into their five-year-old selves, determined to change the future at all costs. Professor Birch is confused.)
Working title: Our Home (Homeworld. Karan S'jet fixed an impossible problem by giving up her humanity. What is she now, and can she be trusted to safeguard her people on the long journey to Hiigara? A story based on the universe and plot of the 1999 PC game Homeworld.)
