For so many years her parents had told her that it would always be her choice. But as she stared down at the blood dripping from her fingers, Mia thought that maybe her fate had already been decided long ago. Perhaps she was simply a puppet whose strings had just been cut and all that was left for her to do now was to continue falling and wait for the shatter as she hit the ground.

Hermione had thought long and hard about her options when she first realized what the red rune on her hand meant. It had appeared two years ago due to the desperate prayers from a Hermione that no longer existed. A different girl- a hopeless girl- had wanted a chance. But she wasn't that girl anymore and she never wanted to be again.

Hermione looked around at the strange world she found herself in and couldn't help feeling tired. She'd lived this all before, and she hadn't liked the ending. And maybe she could delude herself into thinking things might be different, but part of her felt like she was watching a reboot of her story and everyone knew that remakes were never as good as the original.

When Gideon pointed out that the current Hermione Granger would be neither welcome to his presence or their cause and that it might be a better idea to travel back and retrieve her at a different point in time, Rip just smiled. "No, Gideon. I don't need Wizarding Britain's Hero for this endeavor- I need their villain. This Hermione Granger is exactly who I'm looking for."

It was obvious to Hermione that some outside force was at work here; Henry's strange appearance with a magical storybook in tow provided enough evidence that something bigger was going on, though what it had to do with her sister she was unsure. Hermione just hoped that he was wrong and that it had nothing to do with fairytales- she'd had enough of those to last her a lifetime.

Bella didn't expect for things to be different when she was sent to live with her cousin in Mystic Falls. The Mikaelson's never thought they would meet someone as innocent as Bella who would be able to accept them for what they are. When Bella runs into Rebekah on her first day at Mystic Falls High, she changes the Original Family's future in ways they couldn't imagine.

Elijah told her that it took a great deal of strength to be able to find inner peace. He said that he didn't believe he had the fortitude to find any for himself. Considering the fact that he was immortal, Bella couldn't find it in herself to care too much about his opinion. After all, what would a man who will never die know about making peace with death?

Detective Blanc's arrival was unexpected. Hermione hadn't anticipated having to deal with a man of his calibre. It didn't change anything though. She had made a promise to Harlan that she would help Marta win this game he had started and Hermione intended to see it through no matter what. And after all, what's a game without a little risk? *COMPLETE*

"Living is not for the weak," Dolohov told her. "It was the isolation that broke the others in Azkaban, not the Dementors. The lack of human contact. While this island is no Azkaban, it is similar in that only the strong can survive here. Can you, Hermione Granger, stay alive on Lian Yu? Stay sane? With no wand, no friends, no hope, will you have the strength to keep on living?"

Hermione stared down at the newspaper in her hands. "When I disappeared from Malfoy Manor, my world was at war. When I woke up, they said we'd won. They didn't say what we lost." Looking up at Steve, she continued, "You keep saying how when you woke up, everything had changed. Yet, for my world, nothing has." She tossed the paper on the floor between them. "I suffered for nothing."

She remembered a time when Elijah made her feel like the most special girl in the world- when just being in his presence made her feel like she was burning from the inside out and only the brush of his fingers against her cheek could keep her from being consumed. A time when he made her feel like she was enough. He was the first man to make her feel loved. But not anymore.
