Hi I've been reading Fan fic for more than a decade now, I'm honestly not sure how it started. It probably involved star trek or buffy but has since expanded to include a myriad of fandoms as diverse as from Halo to Pride & Prejudice, from Highlander to Doctor Who. Recently I seem to have fixated on Harry Potter which is quite an achievement as I have never read any of the books nor watched any of the films. It does clearly demonstrated one of the things I love about our hobby however "Alternative Character Interpretation" as I have never been exposed to any of the originals my views of the characters are inspired only by fan works which at first included a lot of "Draco in Leather Pants" leading me to believe he was some Darth Vader character seeking redemption. Now not so much. But it has left me with a more fluid idea of the world and no doubt able to appreciate various AU fics I otherwise wouldn't, as they are 'wrong' about the various facts of the world i.e. how magic works, character motivation/relationships or the sudden addition of powers/wealth/Hereditary peerages (everyone's got one in England don't ya know).
The other attraction fan fiction holds is the Crossover. Whether as simple as KotOR characters in the Star Wars film-verse, or SG-1 visiting Sigil (The city of Doors). I love Crossovers the sheer unlimited potential is thrilling. So I suppose it is no great shock that when I finally wrote a Fic of my own it was a Crossover. The very first Doctor Who/Forever Knight Crossover on this site if not the whole interweb. I hope any of you who read it enjoy it but please remember it is a first effort and I haven't written since school. Still I think its quite good at least in concept if you have advice for improvement or believe there is an error in this or any future work please leave a review explaining it.
I have been on this site a while now and have collected a decent sized list of "Favourite stories" I'd encourage anyone looking for something good to have a browse.
I shall leave you with some quotations for no better reason than I like them and because I can.
"For centuries philosophers and theologians have tried to define humanity perhaps they have failed because it is so simple, to be human is to choose"
"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
“Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs allow the mind to stop functioning. A non-functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in NOTHING.”
"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."
Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
I'm curious what happens when we die, but I don't go on reconnaissance missions to find out!
Life is a gift. As sweet as a ripened peach, as precious as a gilded jewel. I've never understood the logic of willfully surrendering such a treasure. And what is there to gain? How dark can your existence be when compared to an empty void? Unless of course, you have faith that there is something beyond. What do you see from where you stand? A bright light at the end of the tunnel? Is it a ray of hope? A glimmer of something better? Or will it burn you like the rising sun? Is that sound you're hearing the trumpeting of St. Peter's angels, or the screams of Memnoch's tortured souls? You can't answer that, can you, because you will never know the answer, till the deed is done. And is your faith, really that strong? I understand the need to move on, it is something that happens, and your time has truly come. I also understand that with the beauty of this life there comes pain and despair. No one is immune. But consider what is in your hands. Don't trade a treasure for an empty box.
