Things I like in (romance) fanfiction
Original style - Unusual metaphors and similes, appropiate choice of words, those things make up the base of a story you will remember for your whole life.
Logical Plots and Progress - I don't believe in love at first sight and I don't believe in sex at the first date. I don't have a problem with lemons, they just have to fit into the plot. (That's also why I'm not all too fond of PWP - though at least those don't claim to possess an actual storyline.)
Deep Characters - The world is not black and white, people aren't entirely good or evil. There are a million shades of grey in between and people have their reasons for being the way they are. Nobody is perfect. (Even for example Lord Voldemort has his reasons for being bad, the only authentic all-evil thing I can think of right now is probably Sauron, but he(?) is more of an abstract force if you ask me.)
Action/Adventure - Doesn't mean I don't like purely Romance fics, it's just more exciting. What I once would have liked in terms of Angst to 'spice up' a story, I now prefer in Adventure/Action/Mystery. I mean, life is not focussed completely on one thing either (mine at least isn't), so a plot could do with a little 'more' to it.
Realism - I'm old enough to know that the chances of a truly happy ending are pretty small. You don't return from war completely unscathed, you don't see/analyse corpses without consequence, you will change because of the things that happen to you, the mistakes you make and what you learn from them.
Equal Relationships - I am a huge slash fan, but I don't like uke/seme roles. Take for example my fandom of NaruSasu - you cannot make one of them an uke without committing the sin of OOCness. They can take turns for all I care. :P (I don't like stereotypical roles in heterosexual relationships and real life either.)
Things I don't like in (romance) fanfiction
Shota - It's just no-no. I don't mind incest, twincest or age gaps. Just no pedophilia. This may also stem from my dislike of the uke/seme roles.
(Badly Written) Mary Sues/Shallow Characters/Character Bashing - See explanation on why I like deep characters.
Sad Ends - As said above, I know enough to not hope for happily ever after, but I've also seen enough sad things happen to not have the desire to read about them as well. If you are planning to let my favourite characters die, put a freaking warning so I don't have to read it. (It's not healthy. Ask my copy of The Order of the Phoenix, it has hit the wall several times when Sirius died.) I can cope with alright-for-now or tomorrow-will-be-better, but I detest and-he-died-and-they-lived-sadly-ever-after.
Deus ex machina - It's not like I don't believe in coincidence and convenience, but there must be a limit. I don't mind the appearance of supernatural helpers, but it should at least be hinted at beforehand - and if possible avoided.
Extremely Bad Grammar and Spelling - Use the bloody spell check! I don't mind some typos and it's not like my grammar and orthography are perfect (in either English, German, French or Latin), but language is, well, it's the most basic condition of writing and the best of stories getting ruined by something like that is just innecessary. Also, that's what betas are for.
MPreg - I don't like other pregnancy fics that much either. Actually, I don't really like children in general. They're annoying. They're in the way. They're clischée. They're boring. And mpreg does imply seme/uke roles as well. So no. Just no.
