In the Quiet of Days - [completed] (Final Fantasy VII) Previously titled I Kissed the Rain. Man this thing drained the life out of me, but I still love it. I wanted with this story to write a mixture of a real life romance (i.e. where's there's not necessarily a happy ending) and a coming of age story. This was been particularly trying to write, and as I started it about three years ago I feel that you can see over each chapter how my writing has progressed since I started it! I'm so proud of this, as it's the first multi-chapter story I've ever completed. I refer to this in my head as my Magnum Opus. My pride and joy!
When You Tire - [completed] (Final Fantasy VII) this was a one-shot that sprung into my mind one day whilst watching Advent Children Complete. There's a lovely scene between Cloud and Marlene, and she tells him that she knew how hard he was working towards finding a cure for Denzel's Geostigma. When he is surprised that she knew about this, she says something along the lines of "Cloud, you should learn to clean your desk out once in a while." I just had this image in my head of him hunched over at his desk. I think that Advent Children is really good in the way that it shows Tifa as a woman who loves from afar and has been left behind, and so I really tried to show this in the story. Plus, I absolutely adore the friendship between Zack and Cloud, so there may be more one-shots to come set between the game and the film that reflect on their friendship.
Without a Word - [completed] (Kingdom Hearts) this just kind of popped into my head. Now, I fully endorse SoraxKairi (trust me, I'm like the biggest supporter of those two - he didn't go through all that for nothing!), but I was listening to a sad song and I had the idea for this one-shot. It's a first person narrated story from Kairi's point of view, and she may seem a little out of character for some people so I'm sorry if you feel that way! I get a little annoyed with her in the game sometimes. This one-shot is about an affair that Kairi and Roxas start having, even though he's dating her flatmate and best friend Naminé. It's actually very sad. Like, really sad.
Girl Unobserved - [completed] (Kingdom Hearts) a Rox/Nam one-shot. I will always, always have time for this pairing! This story was very inspired by a quote from The Notebook and Ellie Goulding's song The Writer. I had an idea a while back for a fic about a rich, bored housewife but that began to change as I wrote this. I wanted to make the character a lot more likeable which is why she has a sad past, and I didn't want to make it seem like she was bored with Roxas, so hopefully their love shines through this. I'm very pleased with this, though it took me a lot less time that Without a Word did, thankfully.
Run [completed] (A song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones) a one-shot about Arya and Gendry. I have a lot of time for this couple - though their interaction so far in the series features a very young Arya, I (as a lot of others are) am sure that there is a possibility for a romance between these two. There is a definite connection between them in the books, a connection I feel has been made very prevalent in the television series. The summary quote ("she had always been too fast for Gendry") is from A Storm of Swords. To me, it just felt right that Arya would end up with the Brotherhood again, and I feel that both characters would harbour a lot of anger towards each other, but they're both incredibly stubborn. I guess it was quite a modern take on their relationship, to feature prolonged ignoring of each other, but I feel it is how they would have behaved considering the circumstances.
Quiet - [completed] (Kingdom Hearts) This one came out of nowhere and blindsided me one night. I've always felt that Kairi can be so much more than what we see in the games, and I'm hoping in KH3 we'll see more of an independent side to her. Kairi in my pieces is always independent but insecure, and I cannot help but pair her with Roxas. These two just have so much chemistry on paper. I've been wanting for years to write a battle scene at Radiant Garden and when the inspiration for this piece came along I grabbed my chance. This fic came very naturally and though the ending really hurt me to write (I spent a good evening thinking 'don't kill her don't kill her!) I think it's one of my favourite pieces of my writing.
