Author has written 17 stories for Harry Potter, Dragonriders of Pern series, Naruto, and D N Angel. Twenty, female, English. I'm sure you're more interested in my stories than in me, however. :) Things I will under no circumstances write: 'True love at thirteen', harem fic, sexual relations involving under age characters. Please feel free to shoot me if these come up in any of my stories. For those interested in ideas brought up in any of my fanfics: you are very welcome to take all and any plot points from my stories and use them to write your own. I'd appreciate it if you put a note that you've drawn ideas from my fiction, but as this is fanfiction to start off with, I'm not all that bothered if you don't. However, please do not just copy and paste my writing and claim it for your own (and yes, just changing the character names counts as copying). Equally, I'd appreciate it if you ask before archiving, should this question ever come up. Other than that, as long as you don't accuse me of plagiarising you, it's all good. :) If you write spin-offs or variations, and would like me to link to them, just send me a PM and I will happily do so. In-Progress Story Status Two Steps Back: 1477 words (now with fantastic art by Djibriel - here) In His Shadow: 0 words Icha Icha Infiltration: Chapter 2 in progress Iphis Promised: 1000 words Team Nineteen: 0 words For those who'd prefer to read Team Nineteen in French, White Damon very kindly offered to do a translation which can be found here Maverickiceman has also done a spin-off explaining some of the rules here Yavin4 wrote a short cover of Rule 140 here From Six: On Hold Mirror Me: On Hold Legacy: On Hold Exams as soon as I go back to uni (8/9 October). Updates will be sparse. That's nothing new though. :D Various Rants (These will no doubt bore the lot of you, but they happen to be things I want to get off my chest. I'll most probably add to them over time - but feel very free to scroll past them. I promise I won't be offended.) i. Harry Potter - abuse First of all, I'd like to say that the behaviour of Harry's relatives was completely reprehensible. I'm sure there's no one out there who'll willingly admit that they think the Dursleys were completely justified, and all that Harry needed was some firm discipline in his life. We get that. However, there are certain points that emerge in fanfics that make me twitch. First of all - proportionate violence. I can see Vernon occasionally swatting Harry around the ear. I can see Dudley punching him, and probably shoving him around. Honestly, however, I think the majority of the abuse centred on neglect and emotional. Regardless - if Harry is hit in the head with a cricket bat, he will not be moving around for a while. I'm fairly weak as things go, and I assure you, I could do some fairly serious damage with a cricket bat. Someone like Dudley, who boxes competitively could do a lot more. Equally whips(? I really don't get why these keep on coming up. You'd think they wouldn't be the easiest things to get hold of), large sticks, and the like - relatively serious damage that someone will notice. If Harry is walking around with open whip marks on his back or broken ribs or who knows what else it's going to be fairly obvious, especially at Hogwarts. He plays Quidditch. They have changing rooms. He's living in communal dorms. Srsly guys, I don't think everyone Harry encounters can be wilfully blind for five or six years until Harry has his massive crying fit or is (gasp) uncovered by Professor Snape. How about we try some subtle abuse for once? Or, y'know, just accept that what the Dursleys do in canon is bad enough and stop trying to sex it up with broken bones and blood. Secondly, the various reactions from other characters to Harry's situation. The main offenders here are time travel fics (oh no Harry is in the time of the founders, Salazar/Godric/Helga/Rowena/Merlin/Jesus realises his relatives ABUSED him!) Guys? You're a few centuries ahead of your time there. They didn't have child abuse laws a millennia ago. They're not going to have safeguards against a child being beaten, because back then, that was permissible behaviour. Children were their parents' property - hence why some could effectively be sold into slavery. I'm not altogether certain that these laws have changed too much in the wizarding world - take a look a Filch and his desire to bring back thumbscrews or whatever. This may well explain why Molly and Arthur did so little to remove Harry from what was fairly obviously an unhappy home-life. Regardless, pls do not be relying on the Founders to come down and smite the evil child abusers. |
